Does my daughter stand a chance at all?

This is a copy of her reddit post:

My dissertation was due today at 12 and the university’s policy is that any work submitted 1 hour after the deadline will not receive any penalties, so I submitted my work at 12:58. After which I went on my email to let the course leader know that I’ve submitted it and saw the email she sent 6 weeks ago that said because this is a resubmission, work must be submitted by the deadline or they won’t be marked and the assignment failed. I don’t know what to do, I’ve not emailed anything to the course leader because I’m panicked, scared, angry, sad and can’t think straight, and I’ve also not received an email form anyone. This was my last piece of work. I don’t know what to do

Is there anything she can do?

Any news OP? I'm hoping the news is good and she will still get her thesis marked.

Hello! Sorry I have not been a ole to update here, I seemed to have accidentally hidden this thread and then couldn't figure out where it went for a while 😩. But yes! It is good news! Her tutor marked her work and she graduated with a 2:1, and starts her first job in two weeks, which is a specialising course. It all turned out well in the end. Thank you to everyone who cared! Xx

I recently found out that this has a name & is a disability sometimes linked to ASD etc. I hope I'm remembering correctly, but it's called "Executive Disfunction" along side the raging perfectionist anxiety, I recognise this in my own daughter & know too well it's about huge anxiety & perfectionism, rather than slackness.

I really hope the Uni are lenient, this year of all years they should be.

Just seen your update. Fantastic news 🙂

Thanks for this, me and my daughter both know that she needs to speak to someone eventually, but unfortunately I can not pry too much into that part of her life as we don't have that kind of relationship unfortunately. It will only push her away further. All I can do Is encourage her to seek help from a professional.

Good news OP! Great to hear she has a job too!!

Illdealwithitinaminute · 09/09/2020 11:05

That's really good news, I had a feeling that leniency would be shown this year. So pleased she has a job. In general universities and their staff do want their students to do well, and not to fail, so will try to make that happen- that said, we do have to have strict deadlines otherwise everyone would just miss them and come up with sob stories. Glad it all turned out well!

Sadly I can relate to that too, I'm learning that seems to be linked too, though I'm sure not always of course.

I found some great information on TikTok & it was down to that & YouTube that had my DD ask for assessment herself, so might be worth a try as they put themselves under so much extra pressure. I worry fir mine as I know I was the same & it eventually made me ill.
