Cooker vs dishwasher - kitchen/cooking enthusiasts' opinions please!

We are getting our kitchen redone. I love cooking and baking. I have a double oven that I'm perfectly happy with. I have a really shit hob. I have a dishwasher that I hate with the fury of a thousand suns. I have the budget for a fuck off amazing four oven, 6 burner range style cooker that I fell in love with about two years ago. I recently discovered an eye wateringly expensive but very impressive dishwasher. If I buy the dishwasher I could keep my current very good double oven and buy a very nice hob and have good enough cooking facilities for all but maybe 3 days of the year (high days and holidays). I would relish the fuck out of the fuck off range for those three days though. If I buy the dishwasher, I would have happy dishwasher feelings on at least 350 (allowing for 2 weeks holidays) days of the year. I think practicality needs to win out here, doesn't it?

I absolutely agree. I left that bit out... there will be a dishwasher one way or the other, but if I get the fancy cooker the dishwasher will be a bog standard one.

What do you hate about your existing dishwasher? I’ve only ever had one dishwasher, it’s pretty bog standard and I have no strong feelings either way about it.

If you can have both then cooker because you’ll be happy every time you see it. Then you can just get a basic Miele dishwasher.

Dishwasher.
I have a 900 wide Range 2 ovens & separate grill, 5 rings.
I don't think both ovens and grill have ever been used at the same time.
Nor have the 5 rings all been used at same time - not even for Christmas dinner.

Also massive foodie/baker here. Never in my life had a dishwasher, and don’t have strong feelings about Aga etc. Definitely keep the existing double oven, don’t bother with a dishwasher and buy incredible imported authentic ingredients from Italy, Japan, China, France.

I would go for the cooker. A dishwasher is a dishwasher. I love cooking and the right oven is crucial.

BikeRunSki its never worked properly even though we spent a good bit on it. And in the last year I've ended up having to rewash about a third of each load as they end up with crud dried on after every wash. I've all but dismantled it to try to clean out every bit and ensure no blockages and it has made no difference. It's 9 years old so maybe just coming to the end of it's useful life but I kick it almost daily (obviously that helps neither me nor the dishwasher).

Fluffycloudland77 I do fear I'll regret not buying the love of my life range. It's a thing of beauty. But I don't want to be let down by another big standard dishwasher.

Blackbear19 I would ensure I used every oven and ring simultaneously at least 3 times a year Wink

well...I just got a spanky new gas range cooker last year...two ovens, one large one small and 5 gas rings, and yes, I cook loads, and yes I love the two ovens, but I managed for years with an oil range and a domino (two tiny rings) hob I can honestly say I am still just using two gas rings!

Christmas was fabulous though....I used them all that day, and no juggling or keeping stuff warm! Except the plates in the warming drawer! :o

Non starter for me get the range and a normal dishwasher. What does the fancy one even do?

I'd buy the range and the bog standard dishwasher. If you keep the double oven then you'll be stuck with that size forever because when it breaks the gap will still be 60cm and the fancy range won't fit in. If you buy the range could you keep the dishwasher for now and save up for the fancy one? I think most dishwashers are 60cm so it'll fit in the space.
Go with your heart every time if you spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

GreenGordon that sounds like a lifetime project. I like your style but hate washing up.

Blackbear19 its a drawer dishwasher, meaning I could put different things in either drawer on different cycles. Current dishwasher can't cope with anything that isn't a plate or mug.

EmmaGrundyForPM I totally understand that view and tbh, I know and trust the current oven so the sensible part of me thinks I should stick with it.

Range and bog standard dishwasher. Definitely. You obviously want that range a dishwasher is a dishwasher is a dishwasher. It just needs to work. And I would have a dishwasher over any other kitchen appliance.

My current house has a range that came with the house. I LOVE it and dread the day that it expires as I'm not sure I'll ever be able to afford to replace it!

A dishwasher is also a key component of my kitchen, but honestly - at 9 years old I think you're just at the end of life of your current one and you'll be much happier with any new replacement - even a bog standard Bosch/Beko.

The drawer dishwashers do look convenient in theory fill one drawer while the other contains clean dishes. But I'd look for people who have experienced them I think they are possibly more convenient for a couple rather than a family.

Our dishwasher is a basic Bosch about 8 years old and works fine.
