Meals when it's so hot

I'm just melting, I'm sure most of us are.
I really don't want to cook any more this week, I cannot stand it.

Thinking of not ordering our usual Gousto and finding an alternative.

We don't want sandwiches as that's our lunch most days.
I've just cooked dinner and am hot and bothered and fed up.
Desperate enough to just order a tonne of party platters and live off that all week.

Any other suggestions? How do you all cope with it?

we had doritos and veg sticks with dips today. no way was I going to cook!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 10/08/2020 19:40

We are having avocado, mozarella, tomato and basil salad tonight with a little bit of flat garlic bread and some olives.

BereftOfInk · 10/08/2020 19:40

I cook early in the morning (6) when it's cooler outside. Pasta, rice etc. Cool and fridge. Then we shut the flat up when I'm the sun comes. For lunch we have the stuff I cooked early plus veg + meat/fish that doesn't need cooking or stuff that can be cooked in a couple of minutes. Scrambled eggs, thin slices of meat, courgette etc. Or jacket potatoes in microwave.

AnneBullen · 10/08/2020 19:44

Made a chicken Caesar tonight from JO 15 minute meals. Ate in the garden with some leftover potato salad and some cold corn on the cob from yesterday.

I’ve got stuff in to make fish pie tomorrow - what was I thinking??

AnneBullen · 10/08/2020 19:45

I do fancy some gazpacho soup with ciabatta though.

Appuskidu · 10/08/2020 19:47

I need some tips as well-it’s far too hot to cook!

Jacket potatoes tonight with cheese and salsa-that was ok.

Vegetables with flat garlic bread and dips sounds perfect though.

Queenfreak · 10/08/2020 19:47

Its salads, cold meats, quiche, kebabs etc here.
Made a cold cous cous salad with puy lentils and some dried fruit today. Added a garden salad and ate it in the garden.

OverTheRainbow88 · 10/08/2020 19:48

Salad, with feta, olives, cucumber, tomatoes, red pepper with vinegar and olive oil!

SandysMam · 10/08/2020 19:55

I roasted a chicken early this morning then stuck it in the fridge, so cold chicken with flatbreads and coleslaw tonight.
Pesto, tomato and mozzarella salad is nice in the heat. If I didn’t have to cook for the kids, I would have a bowl of cereal!!

QuestionableMouse · 10/08/2020 19:57

I've just had a fish finger sandwich for tea. Lovely and cooked in 10 mins so not too hot.

Nothing wrong with having picnic type meals!

Rossaloony · 10/08/2020 20:00

I've just done a Spanish omelette using odds and ends in the fridge and had it with a nice salad. Oven didn't go on so it was a bit more bearable

No way am I cooking in this heat. We went to the local pub, sat on the roof terrace and had pizzas. Eat out to help out meant 3 pizzas and drinks came to £15!
Tomorrow I think it will be Wagamama

NameChange657 · 10/08/2020 22:10

In the north, so it's not too hot at all anymore, but over the weekend we did a salad picky tea, so nice ham, some coleslaw, cucumber, tomato, peppers, a m&s pre-made quiche and pork pie chopped up, some fresh beetroot, a french baguette sliced with butter, some cheese, etc. and had it in the garden at about 7pm when a bit of a breeze had arrived.
On Sunday we had leftover ham, coleslaw and new potatoes that had cooled.
Today we had cold smoked flaked salmon and cold new potato salad

hippohector · 10/08/2020 22:24

If you want something ‘hot’ to eat but can’t bear to put the oven on try the microwave. It doesn’t make the kitchen hot like an oven does.

The microwave makes a crap job of ds2's obligatory oven chips.

I made a mixed leaf and avocado salad, microwaved some spuds then chopped up and mixed with mayo for a warm potato salad, grilled bacon in my George Foreman grill and made some croutons in it as well. Crumbled the bacon and croutons all over the salad.

Butterfly chicken breasts and grill , cooked some pasta. Mixed chicken with seasoned double cream. Added a bag of spinach to pasta just as almost cooked so it was lightly cooked. Threw some olives in and blobbed some guacamole on the chicken. Had some baby sweet corn, just threw in microwave in a bowl with water. So only one saucepan on for 15 mins.
