The army will also be doing spot checks on homes to make sure you’re not watching Corrie without your muzzle.

Had a coffee with a 75 year old after our swim today. She was born because her parents escaped the death camps. Worse things than covid.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/08/2020 22:28

All the other names on the sheet were the same.

We have an unusual surname - or so we thought. Went away to another country, booked a table & discovered 5 other people had also booked tables with the same surname for the same night! That would make t&t really difficult.

IAintentDead · 10/08/2020 22:28

I've just bought (online) a battery solar light, I now can watch the 'ejogs' better, it's lovely and bright when they trigger it.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/08/2020 22:30

DPs watch the hogs in their garden. There's no social distancing around the food there!

BogRollBOGOF · 10/08/2020 22:31

Been out to the pub (with the DCs). Sat outside at first but shortly before dinner the sky went a bit ominous and they invited us in, there was only one other table in use inside in a seperate alcove.

I did my duty and did not have salad Grin

Our friend phoned up while we were still outside and seemed shocked that we would be so daring to go to a beer garden. DH was pointing out that it is about 300x safer outside than inside, the tables are all 2m apart and the 5 seconds for drinks to be placed on the table is still low risk. This guy is healthy, barely past 50 and normally lives down the pub/ gym. Self-employed so works alone. Just seems stuck in this bubble of paranoia. We met up a while back, but he kept his child (similar age to DS1) scooting about 10m away so it was pretty pointless. We're low risk, not seeiñg family, not going out to work/ school, low local community transmission. It's 3 months since I pointed out that his borough only had one case all week!

bakingcupcakes · 10/08/2020 22:32

Maybe the government have secretly told places not to serve salad...we're going to nandos soon and I was disappointed to discover the 'reduced' menu doesn't include chicken caesar salad.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/08/2020 22:39

@justasking111

Just been googling pubs for lunch tomorrow in big letters limited menu, which basically means, burgers, fish and chips, sandwiches, steaks. Honestly trawled through five places before I found one that tickled my fancy. Did I read somewhere that the limited menus were a government invention???
I think the logic is that it helps social distancing in the kitchen (less variety to prepare= less staffing) plus it also helps with profitable stock control.

McDonalds have stuck to a core of burgers and dropped most of the chicken, wrap products, salads and specials. That's a few less people in the kitchen and guarentees the turnover of stock on their more popular lines . Obviously, they've got a pretty dependable customer base, but for somewhere like a pub on a Monday evening, hoping that the weather encourages people to come and sit out to make up for reduced capacity, cutting the risk of food waste helps with fragile profit margins.

justasking111 · 10/08/2020 22:40

Wot no caesar salad OH would not be impressed, Thunderstorms in Snowdonia national park look awesome looking at the lightening link. Wonder if they will head our way again. There is also one sneaking around to pwllheli.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 10/08/2020 22:41

I’m playing them at their own game now. Work wants people to start slowly going back in part-time. Exceptions for the vulnerable and pregnant women. So I’ve told them I’m pregnant early on so I don’t have to commute in and walk around with my laptop in my backpack which is heavy. I can sleep in until 08:30 too.

If I can’t go indoors without a facemask on, I’m not going back to the office.

justasking111 · 10/08/2020 23:02

A face mask in the office seems bizarre when you spend hours touching things, you would have to change them regularly anyway.

Remember me telling you about the neighbour in her 80`s who locked herself in her house back in March, no open windows, no gardener. Well she has decided to sell up and buy in a block of flats where her friends live, she cannot do this anymore. She will be in town can walk everywhere when she finally emerges. Her driving had got a little creaky. Moving home in your eighties is no small matter though, the stress of it.

Willow2017 · 10/08/2020 23:06

Evening all.
Am knackered!
Work far too busy! Too many queueing ignoring markers and requests to keep distance we had to stop taking orders twice. Not enough staff. No chance of keeping up with dishes/tables. Finished 20 mins late when i just gave up. Mountains of dishes to do in morning and more piles to put away its ridiculous. Theres a message asking if anyone wants an 8 hr shift tomorrow. I doubt i could last if its like today! Company enticing customers with 7 days half price meals plus free kids meals so only costs a few quid for family meals. Plus this nonsense of not putting out cutlery or condiments means we are running back and forwards with stuff wasting time. We are the ones taking the brunt cos we have ran out of certain food, missed something because only one person is cooking/plating up/doing Every damm thing on menu. Working like maniacs so company gets the glory. Think i need to say no to tomorrow despite needing the hours but nobody else wants to do it. Guilt trip?😤

Need photos of those ejogs😄

Ds2 back to school tomorrow 😁

Willow2017 · 10/08/2020 23:08

We care obviously doing all wrong as we are doing salads still!

justasking111 · 10/08/2020 23:28

Ah will come to you for salads then.

Surrounded by thunderstorms and lightning now, continuous rumbles from the sea and land. Am going to bed in case we get power outages. Sleep well all..

NannyPhlegm · 10/08/2020 23:58

I'm really tickled by the idea that salad is banned under the Covid regime.
You can fill your boots with alcohol. You can go to Subway and have salad ingredients put into your sandwich. But salad on its own, in a starring role....well, that's just daylight murdering.

And banning salads fits in so well with the Government's health kick too.

If I wrote this down in a work of fiction, I'd be certain to get a very frank rejection letter 😂

maggienolia · 11/08/2020 06:57

Good news to start the day....we have an ejog!!
I was sitting out late last night and heard a rustling in the bushes , thought it was the cat searching out another mouse for me but no, out came hoggy.
Cheered me up after a hard evening with a terminally ill client.

BlackberryViolet · 11/08/2020 07:25

Had a delicious salad yesterday when doing my bit to help out. But the limited menus are really pissing me off at the moment. Round here so many places have scrapped gluten free options.

We went to a NT place over the weekend, the tea room was open for takeaway so we didn’t bother with a picnic. We’ve been before and coeliac dd got sandwiches and a gluten free scone. They’ve now removed all gluten free options so the poor kid had to make do with a slice of rocky road for lunch. That was it, nothing savoury, no gluten free bread for sandwiches, no soups or jacket spuds just pre packaged cake and only one option. While the non coeliacs had a choice of sandwiches, quiche, pies, scotch eggs, and pasties (but no salad) plus savoury scones and about 16 types of cake. All of it loaded with gluten Angry

Willow2017 · 11/08/2020 07:26

Morning all.
Hope you got a good sleep despite the storm Justasking111. I love a good storm. I noticed the moon was a lovely orangey red colour last night but no storm here.

Yeah ejogs! maggienolia. Lucky you. Sorry to hear about your client though that's never easy.

Up too early but aching all over so staggered down to get paracetamol! My body hates me😄 Glad i turned down the extra shift for once.

Will have to dig something out for ds2 for break time at school and making him something decent for breakfast for 1st day back at school. Shhh dont tell him they are veggie sausages😉

Need to get food shop today pah, not fun pottering around shops now so in and out pdq. Will treat myself to coffee and Danish as compensation.😀
I see mn needed yet another mask thread yesterday some people just live to be sanctimonious (ignorant) feckers. Glad a lot of people told them to bore off.

Have a good day folks. Don't let the B's get you down.

TheOrchidKiller · 11/08/2020 07:30

Well that was worth bothering going to bed for, for all the sleep I got.

No storms here, just more heat. Bleurgh.

Good luck for any back to schoolers.

ButterMeCrumpets · 11/08/2020 07:31

I was watching the lightening map last night and thinking 'move south damn you' Grin

Willow2017 · 11/08/2020 07:37

Considering the volume of trade we have at work there is a pretty limited allergy/intolerance/vege list. The ridiculously over kill menu has been cut back for good but it's still a full menu. Probably why its so busy.

Don't see why cafes can't provide at least something for special diet needs if they want the customers in.

MaudesMum · 11/08/2020 07:38

I volunteer in a small community arts venue, and we've opened up our cafe, and are serving a limited menu for two reasons. Firstly, the kitchen is so small that only one person can work safely in it. Secondly we're desperate to control our costs, and there's more potential for waste if the menu is wider. Lots of people only want to sit outside, so a couple of wet days can really affect sales.. But we do include a very fine salad or two!

CruCru · 11/08/2020 07:56

I really want to see a hedgehog now.

SomewhereEast · 11/08/2020 08:21

The I newspaper is leading with a survey claiming that two thirds of parents are anxious about sending their kids back to school???? I honestly don't know a single parent who isn't happy to send their's back, including parents who are more cautious than me generally or were sceptical back in June. Its so strange too how no one talks about nurseries, which have been open all summer. Maybe its just that the eastern side of Yorkshire seems to have emerged as AD central or something? I honestly don't know

SomewhereEast · 11/08/2020 08:23

@CruCru

I really want to see a hedgehog now.
We get them sometimes in our (small edge of town centre) garden though we've only managed to see one once. Mostly we only know they're there because they have very distinctive poo Grin.

I know one person who is anxious about sending her children back to school. She is very anxious in general and won’t let hers on an empty playground in case there are covid germs on it. I know a lot of parents (and teachers) and everyone else is just of the ‘we need to get on with it’ mindset.
