Passport disaster.

Has anyone done a passport renewal in the last month? Or during this COVID fun? I was so busy assuming my holiday would be cancelled I only remembered my daughters passport needed renewing recently. I sent if about 10 days ago and when I checked it said it was being processed on August 4th!
We could ( who knows!) if things go ahead be travelling in two weeks.

The passport office said it will take 6 weeks.

Do I have a hope?
I’m such a muppet.

I'm sorry to say it doesn't look very positive. What will you do, cancel the trip?

ArriettyJones · 06/08/2020 18:58

Delivery normally happens a few days after “Processing”, so I think you’ll be okay.

TheChosenTwo · 06/08/2020 19:01

Agree, once it’s been processed it’s usually very quick to delivery.
Although I haven’t done one recently, when I have done I’ve often received them within a day or two of them being processed. It’s the checking of paperwork etc in the run up that takes the time - they’ve printed it now.
Good luck!

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 19:04

@Aquamarine1029 I’ll change my name, walk away and start a new life.

I dunno. This is so unlike me I’m usually so organised.

BendingSpoons · 06/08/2020 19:05

Yes I think if it's being processed it will only be a few days.

Bananarama101 · 06/08/2020 19:06

Did a renewal and name change on mine. Was received July 17th, and got text yesterday saying will be dispatched soon.

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 19:06

@TheChosenTwo
@ArriettyJones
The passport office were so pessimistic.

I hope you’re right.
I really am so stressed.

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 19:09

@Bananarama101 So that’s about three weeks ish.

I wonder if sacrificing a goat would help

I got one for my new baby, it took about 5 weeks from sending in the birth cert to receiving the passport

Apparently you can tell them if you’ll be travelling to get them to hurry it along, not sure if this is true or not but try twitter

I did message them on Twitter to ask if anything could be done to speed it up, they replied saying no but the next day the status changed to approved and then it was dispatched pretty quick after that. Not sure if it’s coincidence but worth a go!

Foggyday124 · 06/08/2020 19:12

So we sent it out in July. It took a week for it to be picked up by the computer as having arrived to its destination. We called them and told them to add to our file that we were going on holiday on August 2nd.
I think they tried their best to get it to us in time.
So a week to be picked up, a week to be processed (Friday afternoon), Monday morning it was sent for printing and then we got it a couple of days later. Three days before the holiday.

PLEASE PLEASE remember that they are sent to you with one of those silly delivery companies that can’t do it right. They left my parcel outside my apartment building and I was so sure it would be stolen. Try to make sure that you are at home a day or two after they tell you it has been shipped.
Sorry for all the mistakes, I’m done with today!

Foggyday124 · 06/08/2020 19:13

Renewing is faster than getting a new one for a baby

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 19:21

Oh thanks so much you’re all wonderful. @ShirleyPhallus @Foggyday124
I’m just keeping everything crossed.
It’s just a renewal with no changes so I hope it’s straightforward.

Probably come quite quickly. I’m sure it will be in time. Remember if it’s last minute like that, instead of sending it off you can go to the passport office. Means hanging around for a few hours, but it all gets sorted in one day. I’ve had family do that. But I’m sure it will arrive in time.

Emancipated · 06/08/2020 19:24

Mine arrived the day before my flight! There is hope. Once it was printed and dispatched I had it the next day.

It just took 6 weeks to get to that stage! But sounds like yours won’t be long

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 19:24

@ThisLittleLady I wish I’d done that. Thank you. X

I reckon you'll be ok. We needed a brand new one including ID verification. Applied on 29th June and received it back 20th July, so 3 weeks all in.

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 19:27

@cherrypie314159 Really? Great.

iusedtohavechickens · 06/08/2020 19:39

@Goslowlysideways we had our adopted daughters brand new passport back in 2.5 weeks so you should be ok, we were advised 6-8 weeks x

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 19:41

@iusedtohavechickens Really? You’ve made me feel a lot better.

My passport was renewed in July and came back in just over 3 weeks.

I sent DS off for a renewal passport around 12 days ago and my application has been received. Got a txt today saying I should receive it within 6 weeks.

Gymntonic · 06/08/2020 19:46

I don't think you can turn up in person atm and FastTrack is cancelled. Sent our daughter's renewal with check and send on 20/7. They've just said it been approved and now being produced. Dk how much longer that will be

zgaze · 06/08/2020 19:48

Just renewed two of ours - got the ‘we’ve received your paperwork’ text on 22nd July, and a text the very next day 23rd saying they were being processed, then we actually received the new ones on the 28th July. Super fast. But my friend sent three off for renewal the week before and is still waiting on one - there doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

Eebs · 06/08/2020 20:02

We did ours in the last few weeks and it came really quickly. About 10 days. Once processed it took about 6 days to arrive. You should be fine. However our holiday was to spain so we ended up not going! Good luck i think it will be fine

Goslowlysideways · 06/08/2020 20:13

As if travelling wasn’t stressful enough at the moment adding this to the mix is really awful.

Thanks so much. I feel slightly less stressed I really appreciate all the replies.

I applied for my DC renewal at the start of May and received the passport at the end of June. Did you put your travel dates of the application?
They send lots of updates, texts and email to let you know were your application is up to.
