how many kids at your dc school have had covid?

just that. I'm in a panic over schools return in 12 days. I expect a rise in cases due to various reasons in my area though they have been almost non existent for almost a month or so now. I was looking up statistics of how many cases of covid were in schools since re opening. Has anyone in your dc class tested positive since return?

How are you all coping in general and what are the rates in your area around this time.

My anxiety has peaked and I'm looking at ways to reduce it.

So far, none diagnosed. One family had to isolate but were fine.

SkinSkin · 01/08/2020 03:12

Not a single case in two different schools (keyworker kids went full time since lockdown in March).

LilQueenie · 01/08/2020 03:25

thank you to you both. dd had a bit of an issue I mentioned on here months ago. It comes and goes and I worry it will put her more at risk if she did contract covid. She hasn't been ill a single day since March when I took her out of school before it officially closed. Before then it was at about once a month she would come down with a cough or a sneeze. If that happened now I suspect current rules would mean keeping her off until it passed. The fear is unreal for sending her back.

My DD is not yet at school but I know that our village school has had zero cases, as has our entire village.
The nursery we use also has had zero cases, a few suspected which tested negative but absolutely nothing confirmed. But it’s only a matter of time I think, the second wave is coming.

MitziK · 01/08/2020 04:07

No idea. But then again, none of the ones who were clearly ill prior to lockdown were eligible for tests, either, including whichever one it was that gave it to me, as at the time, the only people who got tests were those in ITU, so we had no clue one way or the other.

NoSquirrels · 01/08/2020 04:07

Presumably you’re in Scotland, OP, and your DC is primary age? Schools are all on summer holidays right now so I don’t think the answers about ‘since reopening’ are too much help to you, given that fir the most part schools weren’t fully open before summer anyway. For instance at my DC school there were quite a few cases in late March as schools were closing, but none since the partial reopening to half the classes in June/July. But I’m not sure that helps you?

Before then it was at about once a month she would come down with a cough or a sneeze. If that happened now I suspect current rules would mean keeping her off until it passed. The fear is unreal for sending her back.

Yes, I think we’ll all be expected to keep our DC off with a cough this autumn-winter until it passes or until your DC gets a negative COVID test.

It’s hard to say if your anxiety is exaggerated or if your DC is as higher risk. Do you get any support with anxiety?

shallpoetwake · 01/08/2020 04:13

Yes, I think we’ll all be expected to keep our DC off with a cough this autumn-winter until it passes or until your DC gets a negative COVID test.

We are going to either have to resign ourselves to asthmatic Dd being off until February as she coughs all winter even with well controlled asthma or doing a lot of tests.

whatswithtodaytoday · 01/08/2020 04:20

Our nursery hasn't had any cases (open the whole way through with key worker children... though obviously testing was only really available recently).

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/08/2020 07:17

None. None of the teachers have either. I heard about all these schools closing because staff were off ill before lockdown started but ours was fully open until the end (primary).

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 01/08/2020 07:24

Since it was s major headline in local newspaper when one of local schools had an outbreak I presume ours didn't.

They had approx 30 children in throughout, rising to about 200 (50% of all pupils) in June.

daisybrown37 · 01/08/2020 07:29

I work in a school with was open to keyworker/vulnerable children throughout and then Year 10/12. No cases amongst staff or children. This is in London.

MrsWombat · 01/08/2020 07:37

Zero officially. However we are in London and I think everyone would have had it back in March.

Swearwolf · 01/08/2020 07:47

I think instead of looking at how many cases there have been, think about the measures the school is putting in place for their return, as these will most likely be different from before the holidays.

Our school were fab before the summer - mine both went back for two days a week and there were so many safety measures in place that I was really confident they would be fine. And they loved it! I hadn't realised at all that being at home had had an impact on their mental health, until they went back and I saw the contrast in how happy they were.

In September our school have a different set of measures in place (with year group bubbles of 60 instead of pod bubbles of 15!) and they're not quite as strict, but they have rules in place about the emergence of symptoms and isolating an entire bubble. I think look at how it's going to work at your school- they have to go back some time, and it seems like they're going to try to minimise any risk.

kezziethecat · 01/08/2020 07:47

One positive case at my sons nursery. The bubble had to isolate and no one else seemed to get it.

divafever99 · 01/08/2020 07:50

My dc were in school since lockdown began til they broke up for summer last week (key worker children) 0 cases in any of the children, and the school remained open throughout. I was initially concerned the school would have to close regularly as all the children have parents who were at risk of contracting through their jobs (nurses, Carers, paramedics) but luckily it didn't happen.

SomewhereEast · 01/08/2020 07:54

None that anyone knows about, although given the very high rate of asymptomatic infections (consensus seems to be settled at 70%) I guess someone could have had it back in the spring & not realised? Its a primary & has been open to keyworkers through lockdown & to the relevant years since the start of June

thewinkingprawn · 01/08/2020 07:59

None in either of the 2 schools my children are at. Hampshire.

Remmy123 · 01/08/2020 08:02

None and none in daughter's nursury

Remmy123 · 01/08/2020 08:03

... no teachers either!!

Oldtimer2020 · 01/08/2020 08:03

None at the Primary my son goes to, which is huge. They had been open for key workers throughout and then for other years from June. And it’s a big school. I would not hesitate to send them back in September.

insancerre · 01/08/2020 08:07

I work in a nursery in the northwest of England, we have 5 nurseries and have been open throughout the pandemic and one of our settings is at a big hospital
We have had no cases of Covid amongst staff or children

ILoveAnOwl · 01/08/2020 08:08

I work in three schools. There have been zero cases with pupils.

IndecentFeminist · 01/08/2020 08:08

None. A couple of self isolations and tests but all negative.

CabernetSoWhat · 01/08/2020 08:09

2 children at our school had it mid-lockdown, so no effect on the rest of the school. Their mum is a nurse and got it at work. One child had a bit of a cough, and the other was asymptomatic but tested positive.

CarlottaValdez · 01/08/2020 08:11

We had one in DS’ reception class. This was just ore-lockdown so she’d been coughing in the classroom with 30 other children. Nobody else got it, or rather nobody else was symptomatic.
