how many kids at your dc school have had covid?

LilQueenie · 01/08/2020 03:06

just that. I'm in a panic over schools return in 12 days. I expect a rise in cases due to various reasons in my area though they have been almost non existent for almost a month or so now. I was looking up statistics of how many cases of covid were in schools since re opening. Has anyone in your dc class tested positive since return?

How are you all coping in general and what are the rates in your area around this time.

My anxiety has peaked and I'm looking at ways to reduce it.

Zero

TSSDNCOP · 01/08/2020 13:16

I know of no child that has had it. This includes two school's that were open from Day 1 of lockdown, my own children and their friends and children of friends. I know of 3 households where both parents had it (test confirmed) and the kids still didn't have it, or display any of the symptoms of having it (tests not given).

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 01/08/2020 13:19

Zero and the school was opened for 100% for 2,5 weeks before breaking for the summer. After the initial YR, Y1 and Y6 they had introduced other years in weekly increments: Y2, week later, Y3, etc. Social distancing took place at school but not in the queue outside or during the break. Bubbles of 15.

None that I’ve heard of.

But I don’t think we’d have been told unless it was a child / teacher in contact with my DC i.e. a child in the same bubble.

Track and trace and information from the time that schools were fully open is sparse.

Any information from when KW children were in is also sparse (still no track and trace) and numbers are going to be misleading at best.

Until we have schools fully open again (still no track and trace at the moment) we still won't know numbers or spread.

IndiaPlace · 01/08/2020 16:33

frip the figures I have shared are the reported figures from head teachers to me and then on to Public Health England.

FrippEnos · 01/08/2020 16:37

I am not saying that they are not factual figures.

I am saying that when you look behind the figures you can (and should) see the many holes that are there.

BackInTime · 01/08/2020 16:41

None, despite many families went abroad in the February half term and the fact that a pretty sizeable school ski trip retuned from Italy just days before they shut down.

LadyofTheManners · 01/08/2020 16:42

@drspouse

many of us believe in our village that we all had it between November and January before we knew about it or testing was widespread. This is vanishingly unlikely. The first case in China was in November.
The first "official" case. Spain found it in its water system samples from March last year. Italy found it in samples from December. It's not totally unlikely in a country as secretive as China.
BackInTime · 01/08/2020 16:43

Every other person you speak to says this. I was one of those as was DH, we have both had antibody tests and they were negative.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/08/2020 16:48

I'm a paediatric nurse, in a large children's hospital in a major city. We have had about 4 positive kids in total. The risk is tiny.

vanillandhoney · 01/08/2020 16:50

However many of us believe in our village that we all had it between November and January before we knew about it or testing was widespread.

Given the time of year, isn't it far more likely that you all had colds?

Piggywaspushed · 01/08/2020 16:55

I'm a teacher and I don't know the answer to this for my school so I am perplexed by these confident , apparently factual statements.

christinarossetti19 · 01/08/2020 17:00

I was just going to say that piggywaspushed.

I know that the father of two of the children at my son's school sadly died of cv because there was a fundraiser circulated, but that's all I know.

I know it's likely that there weren't any confirmed cases from 1 June as my son was in every day and school remained open, but that's all I know.

Zisforstripyoss · 01/08/2020 17:32

Not a single confirmed case amongst the children or teachers - a few have been tested but all negative. One TA had covid early in lockdown, but they have made a full recovery.

Jackparlabane · 01/08/2020 17:33

London primary, 2 staff in hospital briefly (full recovery), half their children definitely had it, others were hugely exposed. I know at least a dozen parents who are sure they had it in March/April but only one could get tested as ended up in hospital, and most of their children would have had it. That's a 500-pupil school but my gossip network would only cover about 20%, so I'd guess 60 out of 250 families had someone affected? That would chime with our street WhatsApp, about a quarter of houses had at least one person in March or April. Since May there's only been a couple cases in our borough and the only people I know with it got ill months ago.

IndecentFeminist · 01/08/2020 17:34

We're a small school in a very low c-19 rate area, so I'm very confident we'd have heard had anyone we knew had it.

IndiaPlace · 01/08/2020 17:47

Fripp ..holes? Which are?

wantmorenow · 01/08/2020 18:22

None . However. One girl's dad was in ITU & her Mum died of covid. Neither her or her younger sister were tested. A colleague's husband. (a paramedic) tested positive and was quite ill but not hospitalised, she wasn't eligible for a test but had identical symptoms.
Kids and until recently , teachers weren't tested unless needing hospitalisation .

Might be in your case but already, of the 3 people included in the group I mix with every day several times a day, especially over Christmas, all 3 have had positive antibody tests and all were ill December. One ended up in HDU with a mystery respiratory illness so was asked by the antibody trials to be a guinea pig, the other 2 were tested privately.
CouldBeOuting · 01/08/2020 19:04

I work in school and we haven’t had a single reported case - pupils or staff!

Doesn’t mean no ones had it obviously but it is supposed to be reported to us....

SlipperSwan · 01/08/2020 19:24

Back in March? Lots of children, some have tested positive for antibodies but had no symptoms. Two members of staff in hospital and several parents too. None since the June reopening.

Fripp ..holes? Which are?

I have already pointed out that there was no testing whilst schools were fully open.

during this time and early during lockdown no testing was taken place.

Later in lockdown no testing was taking place

During all this time no track and trace.

Once testing was up and running, very few people went.

We still have poor track and trace and there is a massive gap from this starting till now where the data is flawed.

As for those saying that they hasve had it they don't know unless they have been tested and some of those that are saying that they have had it are doing so because the Drs are saying that it sounds like they have had it on symptoms alone with no testing.

Scampersaur · 01/08/2020 20:04

My son and 4 classmates had it the week schools closed/ week after, though only 2 were able to receive tests at that time (doctor parents). The school itself wouldn’t know this as so many people were off at this time and no “soft” evidence has been collected since. I think that the small bubbles in Primary won’t be as problematic as Secondary. I’m expecting my children’s schools to have to close again on and off in the autumn. Obviously it will be great if transmission doesn't increase and more children than currently thought have immunity.

IndiaPlace · 01/08/2020 20:20

Fripp

I have already pointed out that there was no testing whilst schools were fully open
The data I have isn't about testing, just the number of children and adults with symptoms and tests taken. All are followed up. Of course we can't have data on test outcomes if there was no test.

during this time and early during lockdown no testing was taken place.
As above it doesn't affect the data around symptomatic children and outcomes of tests once this was available.

Later in lockdown no testing was taking place
As above - but testing is taking place and followed through

During all this time no track and trace.
Adults and children who are symptomatic are tracked and traced through the school, LA and PHE

Once testing was up and running, very few people went
All symptomatic adults and children in my LA did go for a test, results had to be reported and recorded. All those with symptoms were followed up

We still have poor track and trace and there is a massive gap from this starting till now where the data is flawed .
The data I provided is actual data not data produced through systems. This is data based on known info, real time.

I think we are at crossed purposes.
