how many kids at your dc school have had covid?

just that. I'm in a panic over schools return in 12 days. I expect a rise in cases due to various reasons in my area though they have been almost non existent for almost a month or so now. I was looking up statistics of how many cases of covid were in schools since re opening. Has anyone in your dc class tested positive since return?

How are you all coping in general and what are the rates in your area around this time.

My anxiety has peaked and I'm looking at ways to reduce it.

Primary one positive test but 1/3 of the school was off with symptoms in March
Secondary don’t know about tests but 100s at home with symptoms in March.
There was a big outbreak in our area so possible a large amount of them were right.
One local teacher died & 2 schools had confirmed outbreaks in March.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 01/08/2020 09:45

None in the 2 schools mine go to

My DC go to 2 schools, total of 3k kids, no reports of anyone having it.

bonbonours · 01/08/2020 09:47

The thing is, all this 'nobody's had it here' doesn't really tell us anything. Most schools have had a small percentage of pupils in and have the opportunity to keep them distanced. This is different from the free for all in September. Also you have no idea how many children were asymptomatic and passed it on to a parent or grandparent who was ill / died.

AriettyHomily · 01/08/2020 09:48

None. Primary.

Dh is a teacher at secondary, 1 adult death and two students with cv. They don't think the cases were related.

IndecentFeminist · 01/08/2020 10:08

I only know because I'm staff. As far as I know our area (an Island) hasn't had any child/staff cases. Mainly all care homes.

Bluepolkadots42 · 01/08/2020 10:16

I don't know whether we had any official confirmed cases in our secondary school. However, in the week leading up to school closures in England we had a few staff members and around 15 students sent home who were displaying symptoms and then around 15 staff members off- self isolating or shielding and my class sizes dropped by at least a third (a few self isolating students, a few students shielding themselves or vulnerable household members, a few blatantly fancied a few days off school and the rest too worried/scared to come in). In my final lesson on the day school shut down I had 4 out of 31 students in.
We are London based school and I believe I had Covid from the Monday after school shut- I had symptoms like weird sense of taste which weren't listed at that point as a common Covid symptom. DH was also unwell around this time- docs kept saying tonsillitis and prescribing antibiotics which did nothing, he was unwell for 3 weeks in total. I was unwell for 5 days. Our DD aged 1.5 was obviously poorly with a slightly raised temp for 12 hours- no idea if she had it or not.

SpeedofaSloth · 01/08/2020 10:17

None. School have on a few occasions let us know when a child was being tested, then later told us the results were negative.

Afonavon · 01/08/2020 11:01

25% of the local school staff plus a couple of parents.

kimlo · 01/08/2020 11:06

none that I know of, staff have though.

But they were only open for keyworkers and year 6.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 01/08/2020 11:12

You can’t compare the provision that was in place after lockdown to a full return. There were very few tests being done, very few children and staff in and room to SD.

A return will see huge numbers, no SD and no PPE.

wendz86 · 01/08/2020 11:17

None that i know of (assume we would have been told if there were). I know a girl in my daughters class parents had it before lockdown but as far as they know she didn't get it.

loutypips · 01/08/2020 11:17

I'm dreading sending back dd in September. No distancing, no masks and we live with someone who if they caught it would more than likely die.

I’m not convinced we would be told unless a bubble bursts. So just one case, cases where parents refuse to test etc won’t be known about as I can’t see schools sharing the information unless it has to be under H&S law.

I don't think "loads of children had symptoms in March" really counts.

IndiaPlace · 01/08/2020 11:37

I work directly with just over 50 primary schools and have done since March. Varied numbers of cases connected, one school with 4 positive cases (2 staff members, 2 children), 5 schools with 2 positive cases each (staff and pupils), 5 more schools with one child testing positive. In some cases with a family member.

I see the data for another 500 schools, if I include secondary. A mixed picture. A number of outbreaks mainly in schools in towns, rather than rural. One school had 8 pupils and 5 staff members test positive, one with 4 staff members, 4 pupils, 2 governors and the parents of one of the pupils.

There are many more symptomatic children and staff. Numerous reports daily, of children or staff members sent home for testing. Schools awaiting results for up to 10 children and adults at any one time. Thankfully these have come back as negative. ( interesting for the autumn term when parents will have to collect children form school ASAP)

In a couple of cases that tests have returned a negative but symptoms worsened, staff and pupils were retested, a negative again but very ill. PHE advised that these 'double negatives' should be acted on as positives.

Piixxiiee · 01/08/2020 11:45

No idea but definitely had cases in both the school I teach in and my childrens school. School I teach in had 2 pupils (separate occasions) and at least 1 teacher who was in with pupils. Other staff who have been off have had it. Me and family all had suspected covid in March but not tested.

The whole thread is supposition and fairly pointless.

No schools can have with certainty published figures because they just don't know.

So its all hearsay based on rumour and gossip.

Not in my case, I see the reported data and link with PHE.

lljkk · 01/08/2020 12:09

I have no clue. I would consider it completely inappropriate to be told anything so specific.

TapirTastic · 01/08/2020 12:17

Loads of kids off sick just before schools closed but none tested as none ended up in hospital. Only Y6 and reception went back but a kid got covid just before end of term meaning lots of staff and other children having to isolate. I am in London where cases seem to be increasing again.

LadyofTheManners · 01/08/2020 12:20

There have been no confirmed cases amongst pupils or staff at our school. Mainstream secondary with 1300 pupils.
However many of us believe in our village that we all had it between November and January before we knew about it or testing was widespread.

TeacupDrama · 01/08/2020 13:00

Considering that 99% of those that are tested are negative most probably just have a normal cold not covid, normal coughs colds sore throats and flu haven't gone away

drspouse · 01/08/2020 13:15

This is vanishingly unlikely. The first case in China was in November.
