Fresh bedding (lighthearted)

Please tell me that I'm not the only one who hates fresh bedding? Me and DH were having a debate about it. He loves the smell and feel of fresh bedding and I just down right hate it. Its stiff and the smell is too strong even without softener. I just can't sleep for the first night it's on. To add I change it regular, I hate it but cant stand the thought of dirty beds either.

It has to be both clean and freshly ironed for me. Fitted sheet too. Lovely.

Thank you OP!!!! Grin I thought I was the only one!!!

I love the soft warm bedsheets in the morning when you wake up. Stiff cold bedsheets do not float my boat

He likes it about the night before I change it where his pillow smells like a foot and he can wallow in his own foistiness.

Is our husband a Mormon?

Yy to squeaky clean dolphins. Bliss.

I love it, especially when it's been line dried.
@QuestionableMouse I am so happy some one agrees. I was starting to feel ashamed 😛
My pillows are never right the first couple of nights, the sheets are too stiff, especially if they've been on the line and it's just not broken in enough.

It's on my list for tomorrow and I'm already grumpy. 😂😂😂

Love fresh sheets, would change them every day if I could be bothered!
I also have to shower and wash my hair before getting into bed, it's the best sleep of the week Grin

I change mine daily as I love it but I do the bed without a duvet cover, sheet on the bottom, sheet under the duvet and a throw over the duvet.

I have OCD ( am diagnosed and medicated ) and mine manifests itself in cleaning and order and smells mainly.

I wash my bedding a lot. I never ever get the “fresh bedding” feel that everyone goes on about.
Maybe it’s because it always feels fresh or maybe I’m de-sensitized? I don’t know but it baffles me.
I do iron the bedding after it has been dried and it looks aesthetically pleasing but doesn’t feel any different.

I wish it did!

Love fresh sheets and sniffing them when I first get into bed. One of life's simple pleasures for me!

You'd hate me. I have a fresh set of bedding on every night; I use loads of scent beads with complimentary scented detergent and continually top up the fabric conditioner.

Two of my smallest pleasures; fresh clean bedding and laundry scents Grin

Am I the only one who can't tell the difference, and have no clue what you're all going on about?

Report
TinkersTailor · 31/07/2020 02:48

@Sycamoretrees yes, you are

For me, the bedding isn't fresh until the laundry hits you in the face.
The strong scent tends to disappear on the second day and I can't sleep until they're fresh again.

@Zoflorabore it's funny you say that about OCD, made me feel a bit more normal in fact.
I'm currently awaiting assessment (rituals, intrusive thoughts..) and I'm very funny about smells too.
To my nose (and head) things aren't clean unless I can smell the products.
I mop constantly, spray air freshener, use strong scented cleaning products/toilet duck/shake and vac... and rotate scents every couple of uses so I don't go nose blind.
I'm currently laid up with a fractured foot and have scratched my arms and legs to shreds (and my ritual patterns have increased 10 fold) because of how uncomfortable I feel with not being able to clean. All because I can't smell the cleaning products. I didn't realise it could manifest like that.

I agree OP. First night of new sheets I never sleep well. For me, I think it's a sensory thing. On the first night I can feel they are there, they are kind of stiff and a bit scratchy. 3rd night is the best!

Report
GlamGiraffe · 31/07/2020 06:22

My sheets are all 100% cotton. I wash them in non bio bio with a dash of laundry detergent. Gang them on the line outside then iron them.. nothing better than smooth fresh coal cotton sheets.
The products you used and how thry are dried yo make an enormous difference to whether the washing has much of a scent residue. Mine doesn't really.

Silverstar2 · 31/07/2020 07:25

I never sleep properly the first night of clean bedding, much as I like the idea. I agree 2nd/3rd night is best.

WHAT!! Fresh sheet day is the best day!! I would happily have DH sleep in another room so I could luxuriate in the simple pleasure of clean sheets!

@whyDo1T

Hehe *@IncrediblySadToo* he said thank you. He was tittering because everything else has to be spotless. He cant understand why I can steam clean the laminate twice a week but hate fresh bed sheets. I said but I don't sleep on the laminate 🙃

I understand the poor man's confusion!

🤣🤣

@TinkersTailor I'm sorry, that sounds awful. I hope you get some help soon 🌷

YABVU 😉

Fresh bedding is the best! (Apart from the stripping the bed, washing & drying the linen, remaking the bed and fighting with a kingsize duvet cover part....)
