@yeOldeTrout

I was wondering about wedding-style face veils, like this, in lieu of masks. I think would meet the standards to let a person fit in, but not interfere with air flow or breathing, at least.
I think we should all adopt the Miss Haversham look. I don't think anyone would approach nearer than 2m and would be far too scared to confront the lack of effective filtering. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dowser · 29/07/2020 21:14

I’ve just realised we sound like a real battling family..and we aren’t we are actually quite quiet Unless something or someone gets us riled.

SomewhereEast · 29/07/2020 21:14

@Drivingdownthe101

Yes, us too. We moan on here about masks, but in the main from what I’ve read we wear them when we have to (or stay out of shops, or don’t wear them if truly exempt). I think that’s what bothers me... it’s not enough that we comply with the rules on masks, it seems that unless we’re activity happy about it then we’re selfish. How is it selfish if we’re complying? It’s a weird sort of thought policing.
Oh fuck yes! I'm not even that anti-mask....I can see how they might be some use in certain types of enclosed space & have worn mine where its required (& tried to wear it properly rather than just pulling it down & tucking it under my chin like half the bloody people in my town). But I'm not going to pretend that it isn't a total PITA.
Dowser · 29/07/2020 21:17

@SomewhereEast
I think you’re right

BogRollBOGOF · 29/07/2020 21:18

@Drivingdownthe101

On the financial thing... I guess we’re the sort of family that this thread people say ‘it’s alright if you’ve got a high earner and a SAHM and can afford to be at home for months on end’. We can afford it but it’s absolutely not what I want for any of us (I do completely understand why people say it though, or generally is that demographic which is calling for prolonged lockdown because they’re alright, jack). We’re not loaded by any means as DH essentially supports 5 of us (I’d only just got back into my freelance work when all this shit kicked off so not making big bucks). I have friends in all sorts of circumstances though so like to think I’m not an entitled twat.
We can do it and it's a relief that we can weather being mucked about. But most can't. And it's not healthy for the kids either.

I never want to be my children's whole world or vice versa.
I'd rather be their harbour, their safe space to retreat to.
Vom Grin

When my dad died, my mum did a great job of getting out and using her network of friends. It's a good place to be.
DH and I are very companionable. But it's still good for us to get out and do different things with different company and feed fresh experiences into our interractions.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 29/07/2020 21:18

'YARP'!!! I found you all!! I thought you had all been eaten by the mask wearing demon that terrorises me from 2m in my dreams!! 😂😂 Need this sanity thread to stop me from climbing into my bucket of sanitiser and weeping!! Bad week! Had to rescue dd2 from mask wearing panic attack in tesco, watch eldest dd1 sprint round coop with her hoodie up to her eyeballs like some demented zorro as she forgot mask and needed baby formula, trying to stop ds1 from trying to drown himself in cider after another 9 hour shift in a blazing kitchen on his own as they can't fit anyone else in due to the 'proximty' whilst doing an online shop as can't face masked demons and dh is threatening to go round sainsburys all Braveheart against anyone who challenges him!! Please keep me sane if not please send wine!! 🍷🍷🤣🤣 Xx
@NowYouListenToMeFella it's (normally) fab! We meet every other month, decide on a theme. Someone hosts and we all take along our bake. Then we try what everyone has made, swap recipes, drink fizz, share the disasters and go home feeling sick. What's not to like? We've been going for about 7 years now.
I want to be in your club. It sounds brilliant. Books monthly flight to the UK.

I could start one here. Probably not the best idea currently as I am on the lockdown lardarse thread.

BogRollBOGOF · 29/07/2020 21:27

I have got a wedding veil. Grin
I'm seeing how well I can tolerate a buff first though.
I'm not complaining that it keeps falling down and I can sneak some actual fresh air and I've not had to go past 10 mins yet.

I just need to get past an hour with the osteopath tomorrow, then an orthotics appointment on Friday...

BogRollBOGOF · 29/07/2020 21:30

The osteopath rang up for screening and briefung and got to the bit about track and trace vs GDPR... I did reply, "It's like Hot Fuzz... For The Greater Good" Grin
I actually don't mind and it is a sensible precaution in that kind of environment where there is prolonged contact.

Willow2017 · 29/07/2020 22:12

Crikey i have missed all the fun and frolics (and fight club😉)

Sounds like a great day out Dowser wonder if that woman will think twice in future? doubt it she sounds the type to think she us right every time

Not much doing here except house work and checking work stuff and deleting a gazillion emails. Back to work tomorrow.

Bollss · 29/07/2020 22:14

@Littlebelina

Usual suspects on the school threads I see. I don't see the point in engaging, their view point is set. I don't disagree that it's difficult and that (especially for secondary) gong back in bubbles isn't ideal but I don't see how part time school works with the way our society is set up. Surely teacher's children would need full time to enable the teachers to go to work and I don't think running full time schools/childcare for some not others is acceptable next term.

Bloody bbc pissed me off today as well with 83 people have died in the last 24 hours. That's not how the (sadly) daily died figure works and they should know that.

Yep. I honestly believe they want teachers to drop dead just to prove a point. They're talking about orphans etc now.
IAintentDead · 29/07/2020 22:16

I think the Covid threads are feeding off each other and everyone else is leaving them to it. Much more sense now so long as the Super Ds don't get on board.

If you venture out in the veil you will have to upload a pic for us. Perhaps catch a few startled onlookers in the background 😂
IAintentDead · 29/07/2020 22:32

I was thinking I was going to have to brave the mask tomorrow as I need fresh food.

Checked the Asda site at 6pm and was able to get click and collect for tomorrow. Yay no mask yet.

Having said that I need to go out and 'brave the mask' as the longer I leave it the harder it is going to be. And I am going to Turkey in September if at all possible so I need to get used to it for the flight.

justasking111 · 29/07/2020 22:45

I was thinking about getting used to the mask. A bit like wearing new shoes around the house to break them in perhaps I should wear a mask. Won`t do it while family around though they would tease me for a year and a day.

Mrsfrumble · 29/07/2020 22:46

Yes yes yes to actually wearing the bloody mask not being enough for some people. It’s not sufficient to judge people’s actions, we must judge their attitudes too. Piss off already! It’s coming through in posters bragging about how their very young children just love wearing their Spider-Man mask or whatever. I encourage my children to wear theirs on public transport, but at the end of the day they are exempt by virtue of their age, and when they’ve had enough (as they did on the bus home today after a long day out) I won’t force them to keep them on.

Children and I had a lovely day out at the zoo. I turned into a total yes-man and was whipping out the debit card for ice creams, carousel rides and a stuffed lion from the gift shop; stuff I’d usually refuse, but the poor little buggers haven’t been anywhere but home and the park for so long I wanted to indulge them a little.

Remember when That's Life used to give out Jobsworth awards? There are candidates aplenty, at the moment, but this one is right up there.

DS1 only deals with cash. We tried him with a pickit card but I just ended up managing it for him. He needs the money In his hand. His PIP is paid to me because I've never persuaded him of the value of a bank account (and he's ignore it, if he had one. I've been giving him virtual pocket money through lockdown and he doesn't give a shit. It's not cash)

HeIenaDove · 29/07/2020 23:28

That's Life used to give out Jobsworth awards

Yes i remember this. They need to bring it back.

incognitomum · 29/07/2020 23:51

@Dowser looks like a great day. Do they have a Sambucas in Seaham? I've been to Peterlee and hartlepool ones. Amazing value. I like lickety splits in Seaham. Especially their Turkish delight sundaes.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/07/2020 04:35

I cracked last night and took myself upstairs around half seven.

My youngest came up for a cuddle and noticed the cat had shit on my bed.

So stripping the bed I’d been IN was probably the highlight of a shit day.

But we bounce back right? That’s what we do.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/07/2020 05:38

DS2 seems to have taken up sleeping on the sofa so he has the fish for company.

I'm not a fresh bedding weekly person (or any kind of rota...) so it's normally an exciting novelty to get in to fresh bedding... until you discover that the Lego has managed to beat you to it.

I'd love some proper pets (fish don't count) but DH comes from a family that don't do pets, and as much as I'd love to just sneak a moggy into the house like DM did, I just can't face the extra layer of cleaning up. It's bad enough keeping two sons toilet trainned...

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 30/07/2020 06:30

@BogRollBOGOF they generally don’t require much clearing up after, but they do pick their moments. Eg veterinary emergencies on a bank holiday weekend or explosive d&v when you’re on your knees anyway.

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 06:41

In the Times today bit of dementing about being 2 weeks behind Spain, but they are saying we can't afford another national lockdown as well..

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/tough-new-isolation-rule-to-stop-coronavirus-surge-bngqxqmkn

Orangeblossom78 · 30/07/2020 06:42

Scientists’ main concern is about imported infections rather than the emerging signs of a surge in this country. It is hoped that contact tracing and local restrictions can keep hotspots under control and prevent the growth that forced the national lockdown.
