I have to report that DD2 is having a ball at her Sports Holiday club. Its very well set up with everything you'd expect from a safeguarding and covid perspective. Lovely leaders. So pleased we found it and there was space.

wanderings · 29/07/2020 19:34

It's a Daily Mail one, but it's one of the stories we've been waiting for: shop robbers hiding behind magic masks. Drip drip against face nappies in shops.

Brilliant! I didn’t book anything for the DC this summer as there wasn’t much available around here and I thought it was better to leave the places for those who really need them, but they’re definitely missing some structured activity.
countrygirl99 · 29/07/2020 19:34

What's ironing?

Drivingdownthe101 · 29/07/2020 19:36

Our washing machine has died. Which is bad, obviously. Except I packed all my washing off to my mums and my dads (they’re divorced) and they both delivered it back to me washed, ironed and folded.
I might put off buying a new one Grin

Yes, us too. We moan on here about masks, but in the main from what I’ve read we wear them when we have to (or stay out of shops, or don’t wear them if truly exempt). I think that’s what bothers me... it’s not enough that we comply with the rules on masks, it seems that unless we’re activity happy about it then we’re selfish. How is it selfish if we’re complying? It’s a weird sort of thought policing.
It is. From what I can see every one is pretty much is complying with the rules. In fact for a nation of 66 million odd I would go as far to say I think we have all done pretty damn well at coping with the changes.

Also agree with this (are you me?). And lets face it we're English / Scottish / Welsh / Irish so moaning is part of our culture.

I would add that we should also believe that we're all DOOMED and stay insider forever.

I've booked DS2 in for a few days at a sports club. I only booked last week so hopefully shouldn't be depriving anyone of essential childcare. I book him in for a few days in the summer to give him and DS1 a few days respite from each other. DS2 is sporty and more sociable. DS1 likes the 1:1 day and we all feel rested from a shift in dynamic.
Given that it's week 20 of the 6 week holiday, I think DS2 has earned it Grin

Oh god I don’t blame you, mine got to go back to school for 5 weeks so didn’t need the interaction so much. If they hadn’t been back to school I’d have booked them in to anything going!

I do so agree with this. I will wear a mask in shops, on public transport, in the doctor’s, etc, but I don’t have to feel happy about it or regard it in any way as normal. There seems to be a feeling that unless you embrace it with evangelical fervour you are somehow letting the side down.

Don't blame you at all. Arguably DD2 could have stayed home but DH and I are working so she'd be on her computer all day. I feel this is a much healthier option. DD1 much better at getting out on her bike and overage anyway.

I also don’t think you’ll find anyone on these threads who thinks there shouldn’t be sensible measures in place either, @larrygrylls. Did you come here under the impression that we’re all covid deniers or something?

Seconded...I don't think anyone has said that this isn'tr a nasty virus and measures are required. Also from my observation and experience the majority of people are wearing masks, washing hands and keeping their distance. We are.

It's not a denial that this is a nasty virus, more of a general bewilderment that in a world of nasty viruses where no one bats an eye lid at 50,000 flu deaths, that we're making so many social and economic sacrifices for one particular virus. Particularly when the costs of those sacrifices will take years to truely emerge and this is highly likely to be a false economy.

Plus the general disbelief at how many people are actually ignoring the additional misery and lapping all this up to boost their virtue signalling kudos.

Dont accept cash but will put the pork pies the customers have handled back on the shelves.

The act of using a hot, heavy instrument to attempt to convince a 3D object that it wants to be a 2D object.

I just end up with deeper creases Grin

BakewellTarts · 29/07/2020 19:58

I iron...not my favourite activity so save it all up and spend a couple of hours clearing it whilst catching up on a film TV series that I want to watch. My masks are drip dry though and unironed.

Its this lack of thinking things through and creating additional risks whilst implementing suposedly protective measures which is driving me nuts. And this is such a way from being the only example out there.

bakingcupcakes · 29/07/2020 20:07

I went to a slightly further away country park today. It was lovely but pretty busy. Spent a lot of time queuing. Even the play area had a 20min queue to get in. This is the first time I've had to queue for a park. They have shops/cafes in the middle but you can't enter the outside area even to window shop without a mask so we didn't bother.

I haven't been anywhere on here today apart from this thread. I just can't at the moment. I've given work a return date of school going back in September and the idea that won't happen is terrifying. I genuinely don't know what I'll do. I can't be unemployed because mine is the only income. It's bad enough having to think about random weeks of unpaid leave mixed in. I can't cope with the idea of not going back at all.

Bloody geniuses!

Dont get covid on your hands ffs just ingest it on a pie instead!

(Cant see the article as have adblocker on! )

HeIenaDove · 29/07/2020 20:08

To me the fact they are willing to put the handled stock back on the shelves shows its not about the virus

Its about USING the virus as an excuse to go completely cashless.

Ibake · 29/07/2020 20:09

@BakewellTarts I have one of those examples. Went to get a coffee at Maccie's this morning. I don't need a cupholder, they insist you take the holder as it's their h&s roolz. I don't want unnecessary cardboard that will then need recycling. I want them to hand me the coffee in the holder and I take the coffee but not the holder iyswim? But no, I have to take the holder too. Up until that point I have not touched the holder just the cup. But they have touched the holder. My way is minimal contact, their way we've both touched the same item. Aargh! My wheels may have spun slightly as I drove off!

yeOldeTrout · 29/07/2020 20:09

I was wondering about wedding-style face veils, like this, in lieu of masks. I think would meet the standards to let a person fit in, but not interfere with air flow or breathing, at least.

I need to look at all the country houses type places around here (miles away) see if any of them are open without ridiculous restrictions for next week. Just getting away for the day would be better than nothing.

Hmm I do wonder who is coming up with this?

I've had a couple of good work days talking to risk professionals about sensible measures which they have implemented in their companies. Which proved to me that it can be done well, if there is a will to that is.

Dowser · 29/07/2020 20:20

Wow..this is what happens when you go out for the day lol
6 pages to catch up on
Well my lovely Dd saved the day. She suggested another venue and they managed to squeeze us in at seaham. Such a lovely friendly bunch..really lovely helpful people.
(She came along with another grandson.)
No, I didn’t go in , the Only water I do is bath water.
I was the official photographer 👍
But it was lovely watching all the young people have fun on such a glorious day, weather was fab and there were hoardes out..it was buzzing.

Mr Dowser had a go and only fell in twice..his balance is poor on account of his stroke.
The 10 year old who isn’t terribly strong managed really well, unless you asked him to carry his paddle board and he just couldn’t. They are very heavy and actually bigger than him.
You’re In a nice safe area between piers and the instructor was fab.

Afterward we headed to Sambucas where you get three really nice courseS for £7 and they cater well for gf and df

So a lovely day was had by all and now nana is £££ lighter..but hey , we had fun

Look how calm the sea is.
