Do you wash your clothes before you wear them?

Someone’s just called me disgusting for not washing my clothes before I wear them for the the firs time. They were talking in general not just during covid.
Have I been doing it wrong? Happy to be told that yes I should be washing everything before I wear them.

Absolutely I wash before first wear !!!
Exception might be a jacket or coat which I would not dry clean first.
Anything which may have been tried on in a shop or at home (and even worn too) before returning absolutely must be washed to my mind.
I also wash socks tights knickers bras even where it is obvious they haven’t been tried on - ‘to get the factory off’Grin
Do same with towels t towels all bedding etc etc not cushion covers interestingly.

Always

Yes I do, due to the chemicals and dyes in production this is recommended.

Nicolastuffedone · 25/07/2020 12:16

Yes, clothes, bed linen etc. Definitely anything bought from a charity shop!

Ishihtzuknot · 25/07/2020 12:29

Always, the thought of other people’s hands over them and god knows what else makes my skin crawl.

I wash them every single time.

Your average piece of clothing has been made in a factory where it has been passed all over the place, been on the floor, shoved in boxes, bundled up and shipped to the UK, before being bundled into a stock room and then tried on by God knows who before going back on the rail.

Plus, many years ago (as a teen, it was that long ago) I used to have a part time job in a very, very budget high street shop that is no longer with us. I have memories of pest control issues that make me itch just thinking about it.

Surely if the dirtiness that clothes were exposed to was as extreme as some on this thread are saying, white clothes would be so filthy that they wouldn't be able to sell them?

All the white T-shirts etc I've seen in shops have been perfectly clean other than when they have makeup on them form others trying them on, and I just don't buy those ones.

MiniMaxi · 25/07/2020 14:36

Yes I do, because of the chemicals/dyes more than because I think they’re dirty.

I love th efeel of new clothes, the crispness, the feel of the fabric. Nothing ever feels as good after it is washed.

I'd never wash before first wear, it would be such a waste of that new clothes feeling

Only with underwear and kids clothes. DD has really sensitive skin and I made the mistake of not washing something new once and it really messed with her skin.
