You have to choose...

As part of cost cutting measures, you have to choose between Netflix and amazon prime. You can't have both. So which would you stick with?

Shallow question, I know, but my job will be going and I am looking at how to cut back. A bit difficult, as these 2 are my only indulgence. I now have to look at cheaper essentials now. And probably cooking with more lentils🙄

Hm, I would actually struggle and look instead to make the equivalent savings elsewhere!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 24/07/2020 12:23

Amazon prime you also get free next day delivery, do u use it?

olivo · 24/07/2020 12:24

I'd keep prime, for the cheaper prices and quicker delivery, not for the TV. I don't watch tv that often.

I would keep Netflix, I use amazon prime delivery a lot but their prime items are always more expensive so ita a false economy.

olivo · 24/07/2020 12:25

Do you have enough to pay for the full year amazon up front? It works out cheaper and then you can forget about it for a bit.

Stompythedinosaur · 24/07/2020 12:27

I'd keep Netflix. I like having both, though.

Ilovefriday · 24/07/2020 12:33

I'd keep Netflix. I wouldn't miss prime video but I would miss prime delivery. Maybe just sign up for one month of prime before Christmas when you are doing your shopping?

Lockdownseperation · 24/07/2020 12:35

I know with Netflix you can cancel and restart when ever you want. Can
You do the same with Amazon? You could do one month on, one month off with both. We saved a fortune on purchases when we cancelled Amazon prime.

Pelleas · 24/07/2020 12:35

Neither.

ChangeThePassword · 24/07/2020 12:37

I kept Netflix, and occasionally do a week or month of Prime when they give me an offer. I binged New Amsterdam in a week...

AwfulSomething · 24/07/2020 12:38

A friend of mine alternates between the two each month.

CatBatCat · 24/07/2020 12:41

Neither

Tinamou · 24/07/2020 12:42

I'd get rid of them both!

BarbaraofSeville · 24/07/2020 12:45

Netflix. You have to pay even more for half the content on Amazon Prime and a lot of things sold by Amazon are cheaper elsewhere or you just organise yourself so you can wait an extra day or two for delivery.

But like others have said, you can swap and change easily, so do that whenever you fancy a change.

Also try Disney Plus and/or Now TV, both are cheaper and if you sign up to Now Tv and then cancel, they offer you a cheap deal to stay. We've had it for years and never pay full price and quite often only pay a pound or two a month.

CaffeineInfusion · 24/07/2020 15:49

Interesting comments. Thank you, all.

I hadn't considered alternating. I won't be buying off amazon, or anywhere, really, so prime delivery isn't really needed. I've always lived on a budget, and something on TV has always been a luxury for me, as a single parent, no sitters, and no external social life. I can't afford a night out🙄🤣

I must sound so pathetically sad😂😂

I think I have exhausted the usual money saving ideas, but am open to suggestions..

I'd keep netflix as not having prime would reduce my amazon buying and impulse purchases.

If there was stuff I needed on a regular basis from amazon I would keep it though.

On the odd occasion you do need to buy something off Amazon, make a temporary email address and get a 30 day free trial!

AldiAisleofCrap · 24/07/2020 16:39

I would ask a friend if I pay the extra for 4 screens and use a profile on theirs.

AldiAisleofCrap · 24/07/2020 16:39

On Netflix I mean.

TheSunIsStillShining · 24/07/2020 17:31

I'd cut both and look at free options. Everything can be watched just might have more ads popping up.
Unless you have small kids, then this is not an option, as these ads tend to be on the adult side :)

captainsaltpants · 24/07/2020 20:32

I alternate between both each month. It's easy to cancel and restart so one month Netflix, next month Amazon. That way.

Bargebill19 · 24/07/2020 20:35

Had the same dilemma a year ago. Chose Amazon prime and haven’t regretted it.

mallrat · 24/07/2020 20:38

If I didn't need Prime Delivery then probably Netflix but there's good stuff on Prime. I'd rather save elsewhere.

LadyCatStark · 24/07/2020 20:40

If you won’t be shopping on Amazon, then definitely keep Netflix. Everything on Amazon prime costs extra 😡.

Sunshineboo · 24/07/2020 20:42

Do you listen to prime music? If you do then you’re getting too full on with the Amazon Prime. Could you register for a free course somewhere and get a student discount? Makes it very cheap

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/07/2020 21:16

Look for deals. DS's phone contract was up and we went for a deal that included netflix (and was £10 cheaper than the last phone)
Swap to T Mobile for broadband - free Netflix

Have a look at offers
