If you've left your washing overnight in the rain do you..?

A. Do a total rewash
B. Do a rinse and spin
C. Don't rewash and hang up inside/tumble dry
D. Leave it there until it stops raining and it dries where it is

As you can probably guess I've left my washing out and it's rained

Examine it carefully - I once left a tea towel out overnight and a bird shat on it. It was quite difficult to see as the towel was a small busy design. I would spin it again if it's very wet and put on clothes horses if there's any chance of rain as it isn't worth the aggravation.

hedgehogger1 · 24/07/2020 09:37

D. Sometimes my laundry is out there days

Maybe B if totally sodden, but almost always D. The suspicion of rainwater is one of the many examples of MN fastidiousness which leave me totally baffled. What do people think clothes doused in rain water are actually going to do to them, even if it is less pristinely pure than tap water? Do people panic when it rains on their skin?

Stompythedinosaur · 24/07/2020 10:01

D. It's an extra rinse!

stardance · 24/07/2020 10:11

If it's still raining lots I take it inside and hang it to dry there. If the rain has stopped I just leave it out there to dry again.

eaglejulesk · 24/07/2020 10:11

C or D, depending on the weather forecast. If it was really wet I would probably spin it, but wouldn't rinse or re-wash.

xolotltezcatlopoca · 24/07/2020 10:24

Depend on how much it rained. If it became soaking wet, rewash. If it was slightly moist but almost dry, let it dry as it is. If it's not wet but doesn't smell fresh, then rinse and dry.

sqirrelfriends · 24/07/2020 10:26

As long as it's going to be dry-D

I'd just have to try and not think of the spider willies

Pobblebonk · 24/07/2020 10:44

@BillywigSting

B but I also live in a city and have seen the dirt that rain leaves on the windows, it is not clean water but not dirty enough to need a full rewash
That's not from the rain, it's the rain combining with the dirt that's already on there from smoke, diesel fumes etc.
LynetteScavo · 24/07/2020 12:13

I would be in a rage, because firstly I wouldn't have left in our overnight unless something major had happened.

Or it would have been hung out at 5pm by DH. Badly.

So I'd have to leave it and pretend it wasn't happening.

Hopefully it would dry and by would by then have calmed down.

D.

I like a nice rainwater rinse and tbh there are probably more spider willies in our rackety old lean-to where the washing machine and air-dryer live than outside anyway...

Marble2302 · 24/07/2020 12:30

I never leave washing in the rain but if it did happen it would need rewashing.

Ilovefriday · 24/07/2020 12:37

B the rain often seems really dusty (judging by my car and the windows) so I'd want to rinse it. If the washing is soaked and dripping it will dry better after a spin. I'd do this if it got soaked during the day too.

Sewrainbow · 24/07/2020 14:34

D

Hangingover · 24/07/2020 14:42

I'd take it in and put in a heap then rehang in the morning because I am a slut (in the Jilly Cooper sense of the word). Would leave out but moths go to town on fabric overnight here.

DramaAlpaca · 24/07/2020 14:47

B then tumble drier if I need the washing soon.

Otherwise D.

HelloDulling · 24/07/2020 20:55

Rain is not dirty, dusty or polluted. The air may be, but it’s like that come rain or shine.

Craftycorvid · 24/07/2020 21:03

DH left some of his laundry out the other night and I said ‘oh no, it’ll have been darked on!’ Cue very bemused look. Grin

Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/07/2020 21:10

B. and then re-hang either inside our outside. I might also put a little bit of fabric conditioner in the rinse.

leafeater · 24/07/2020 21:21

Yesterday's rain soaked offering just came in!

SociallyDistantPenguin · 24/07/2020 21:22

A, but on a shorter cycle.

I live in a block of tenement flats, and the location of the washing lines means dirty water does sort of bounce back off the walls down onto the washing of it's been left out in the rain, so it isn't just clean rainwater.

That's for proper rain though, if it's just been a light drizzle I bring it in and just hang it up inside to dry.

Thisismytimetoshine · 24/07/2020 21:23

D. It's rainwater, not battery acid.

homemadecommunistrussia · 24/07/2020 21:27

D obviously
