@BakewellTarts I like your style of refusing to take photos of muzzled family members.

justasking111 · 26/07/2020 21:13

My chakra is good at the moment I think because I decided not to read/watch media, forums, anything which is doom mongering. I can now go out and about, see grand kids. Looking forward to the zoo on Thursday with five of the little perishers . It is the little things I grab with both hands now.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/07/2020 21:14

@IAintentDead
Assume the husband is already sterilised??? 😜😜
Sorted many, many years ago Wink

Life is too short, BakewellTarts, which is why DH does his own laundry (thanks to an incident known as "Laundrygate"), & as he's only just done his laundry that mask won't be getting in the washer this week. Well, it might, if it gets that minging it will walk itself in. Grin

I am trying to read more but can't get into anything. Trying to read a Japanese story (I think it's called something like, "Before the coffee goes cold"), translated into English. I quite like Japanese writers translated into English, have read a couple now.

Willow2017 · 26/07/2020 21:22

Well i caved and looked on that thread more I depth. Thankfully Mn message and deletions now but still the vile people unrepentant. Its quite chilling how they are proud of being so nasty to another human being who has been utterly traumatised.

#BeKind has been replaced by #Be an utter bastard it's much more fun

Mascotte · 26/07/2020 21:22

@TheOrchidKiller that book is sooo good.. stick with it. I d been recommending it to everyone.

Bollss · 26/07/2020 21:23

I'm starting to think dementors either have the reading comprehension of a 2yo ie cannot fucking do it, or are just massively ignorant and or thick.

No matter how many times I've said "I do wear a mask" I've still been called a selfish arsehole and other things.

Except I'm actually wearing a mask. Perhaps I should throw in I work for the nhs. I feel like their tiny brains would explode.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/07/2020 21:24

I reckon life will be pretty normal after next Easter. I think it is likely that there will be disruption in a localised, targeted way through the autumn and winter, but it will not be a reapeat of last Feb/ March. We need to get all industries up and running again though. Wedding suppliers and large scale events can't be suspended indefinitely and there's clearly nothing wrong with the business model unlike chain stores/ diningon the High St. Massive conference facilities being used as Nightingales are unlikely to be decomissioned this side of April.

It's begining to look viable for running races to resume in the autumn... I've lost track of what I signed up for and when it is. My June HM was moved to November and I'm hopeful for that.

I turn 40 early next year and had intended to do a marathon. Probably Manchester or Liverpool. It could well be a once only thing and I think I'd rather wait until 2022 because of the investment in training, 20 mile runs etc. I'd rather feel safer knowing that the event will happen than get a last mnute disappointment like many did at peak training this year. Plus my fitness has slipped. I can't face doing anything until I've been to the osteopath later this week as my body is now so tight and niggly.

Dowser · 26/07/2020 21:26

That mask thread is bonkers isn't it. I think perhaps for 2 reasons:
  1. Logical. Essential spending isn't enough. The economy needs the discretionary stuff. If mask dislikers don't spend then thats a problem. Even more of a problem if footfall falls following introduction of mandatory masks. Might make the government rethink...

  2. Emotinal. This is a new religion. Get on board wholeheartedly or you are athiets and other. Do not question just follow blindly.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/07/2020 21:33

@DominaShantotto Flowers Not that a picture of some flowers will make any of this better for you, but the sentiment's there.

I've had the child with the problems & had to fight for help, too. To do all that on top of all the covid stress, and the degree course that you're doing, is mind-blowing. You sound a very strong woman, even if you don't feel it now.

I hope you get a bit of respite when your DCs go on holiday.

Well, highly anxious DM has finally admitted tonight that her OCD is "quite bad" ("well Ma, I had noticed...") I feel very sorry for her, living like that must be awful. Us meeting up is a very long way off. Not seen each other for 7 months now. It's the worst bit of all this.

Bollss · 26/07/2020 21:36

@BakewellTarts yeah it goes back to the cult thing doesn't it. You're either with us or against us. When in actual fact I'm not totally against masks I believe they have their place I just don't think the big shop in Aldi is it.

I've avoided other threads for a while and I should have continued. Made me laugh that I poster said I spend a lot of time on covid threads and I thought ha that's funny I've avoided them for a while until today!

TheOrchidKiller · 26/07/2020 21:38

@Mascotte
Right then, I'm going to hide the phone & pick the book up again! I've got to the bit where she's waiting for the ghost to go to the toilet....

BakewellTarts · 26/07/2020 21:39

On discretionery spending. I want a new car, I don't need one, the old one is fine, it's just getting old but still reliable and driveable. I'd just like something different and newer. We have the money to buy without finance (lucky us). I just don't want to go through the process at the moment. I wear glasses which fogg up in a mask (all tips don't work for me). I don't want to test drive in these circumstances or negitoate with salesmen. So we are just not buying a new car now.

Mascotte · 26/07/2020 21:39

@TheOrchidKiller I could just see it like I was there...

BogRollBOGOF · 26/07/2020 21:41

[quote Dowser]This is getting ridiculous now

FFS. Angry
Secondary pupils will already have faced 5.5 months away from regular education. That's a quarter of the course for the y10s moving to y11. Masks will be a massive impediment on effective communication, teaching and learning. Some of these union members are absolute thundercunts. Young people have already suffered the most for least return.

Thank goodness I'm no longer in secondary classrooms. It's a license for poor behaviour in many schools. You won't be able to get to know your students. You are massively inhibited in building a personal rapport. And for what? Political virtue signalling. Absolute bullshit.

Thank goodness DS1 is approaching y5, so y6 should be pretty normal.

I had been hoping to go to open evenings in the autumn, but can't see them happening. That could leave me with a tiny window in 2021 to work out where to send a child with quite contradictory SNs who needs nurturing and stretching gently.

SomewhereEast · 26/07/2020 22:09

@countrygirl99 We're just back from a few days staying near Whitby! We visited Whitby Abbey, did one of the little boat trips out to sea (none of them seem to be bothering with masks, but then the boats are all open air anyway) & had a really good lunch in a place called the Rusty Shears. We ate in their little walled courtyard, more because its a nice spot on a sunny afternoon than Cos Covid. You might want to book if you want a courtyard table though (we did). If you go a little up the coast Robin Hood's Bay is beautiful and less rammed than it usually is in high summer. Whitby was about as rammed as normal for July, so very. Also if you have younger DC they might enjoy crabbing.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 26/07/2020 22:16

@SomewhereEast that sounds so lovely. I’m really enjoying getting away again. We were so lucky to be able to postpone or get refunds and everything we booked is in uk. Really feel for people who’ve been affected by more cancellations

RubberDinghyRapids · 26/07/2020 22:26

Just read that Daynurseries article.

The staff who are refusing to cuddle children in their care Angry. I'm no great attachment parent (aspiring but alas failing ha ha) but the idea of an upset child, in childcare away from their parents, being denied comfort when upset is horrible. Particularly for those that had a break from attending and have had to settle back in.

Sounds lovely! We’re off on our holidays next week. Waiting for the list of ‘Rishi’s meal deals’ so we can figure out where to eat for the first few days!
Not looking forward to a 6 hour drive with an 18 month old who is a poor passenger (doesn’t help that he didn’t go in a car for 4 months over lockdown as we didn’t go anywhere!) but I’m planning (excellent parent that I am) to strap the iPad to the seat in front of him so that he can watch Peppa Pig for the duration Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 26/07/2020 22:43

@LivinLaVidaLoki I like most books by Persephone Books - they're a publisher that specializes in books written by women around the turn of the century. There's something really comforting about them. There's one in particular that feels particularly pertinent now where there's Spanish flu circulating and they're trying to decide whether to go to protest about votes for women Grin

Have you read Elinor Oliphant? It was quite trendy a couple of years ago but it's good.

@BakewellTarts a few colleagues had what were textbook Rona symptoms at the right time but did antibody tests a month ago or so and all came back negative. Weird.

@NowYouListenToMeFella are you ok? Haven't seen you for a while?

PinkFondantFancy · 26/07/2020 22:46

@RubberDinghyRapids oof that's absolutely awful. It's hard enough leaving your child with someone else but you have to be able to believe that they'll be comforted. The thought of people being able to stop themselves comforting a sad child is baffling and heartbreaking

@dowser how do they get all their power? Demanding secondary students to wear masks is utterly absurd

bakingcupcakes · 26/07/2020 22:51

@Drivingdownthe101

If a mask only protected me I wouldn’t wear one. I don’t care if other people wear masks to protect me or not... in fact I’d rather they didn’t, they creep me out.
I completely agree. So far I haven't been anywhere that needs one but tomorrow I have to do a food shop so that will change.

I went to a country park today with my friend and the kids. Play areas and toilets all open. It was pretty busy but big so easy to stay distanced. The cafe is now take away only and where as before it was always busy today it was dead. However, neither of us thought about the mask requirement to get a takeaway coffee/cake so we couldn't have one and I think other people may have done the same.

This is going back on the thread a bit but those of you with children who've read Harry Potter. What kind of age did you let them have the books/films at? I've read the first 3 books to DS this year and he loves them. He watches the first 3 films too. He's now desperately pushing for the 4th book for his 6th birthday next month. I think he's a bit young but partly because I know he'll then want the 5th and I think the last 3 books are too old and he won't understand/enjoy them. Any opinions?

justasking111 · 26/07/2020 22:54

When a little one puts their arms around your legs as they tend to do, how can a child carer shrug that away. They come for comfort you give them comfort the fastest way to smooth over the upset. Would they prefer an isolated hysterical child to cry for an age?

ReturnofSaturn · 26/07/2020 22:58

Do we think this is going to spell the end for good for soft play centres and toddler groups?

We are missing toddler groups and classes so much and will miss them even more all winter.
