Do you know that I can see if you’ve watched my fb story?

Just a straw poll really, I want to see who knows that if you watch someone’s facebook story, they can see that you’ve watched, or if you didn’t know that.

Just because I’ve had a few unexpected viewers recently and I don’t think they realise I know they are watching Grin

I didn’t know.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 23/07/2020 00:54

I knew that Smile
I occasionally post stories and it always tells me who has viewed.
Appreciate not everyone might know this though!

FlaskMaster · 23/07/2020 01:03

I didn't know that, but I've never viewed anyone's story. But if I did view one, I definitely wouldn't give a fuck if they knew I saw it. Why do you think they don't know and that they'd mind you knowing? Isn't it just friends that can see stories?

Andylion · 23/07/2020 01:06

I didn't know this, OP, how can you tell?

SisterAgatha · 23/07/2020 01:07

I don’t want to go in to the whys and how’s or who is watching what, because I’m just curious to know how well known it is. Smile

SisterAgatha · 23/07/2020 01:08

It tells you who has watched Andylion. I suppose if someone has never posted a story of their own, it’s perfectly reasonable they wouldn’t ever know the other person could see they’d watched.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 23/07/2020 01:08

Isn't that only if you are friends though?

SisterAgatha · 23/07/2020 01:17

I don’t know, I’ve never posted a public story.

It’s not juicy - It really is as simple as my aunt pretends she doesn’t even know the password to her facebook yet watches everyone’s stories having a good old nose like she thinks she’s some kind of Poirot. Grin

Yes just the same as when you post a story on Snapchat and Instagram it will show you a list of the names of people who have viewed your stories

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 23/07/2020 01:30

Isn't that only if you are friends though?

It shows you who has watched your story.
So in my case, mine would only be watched by friends as I;m set to friends only. Tells you who has viewed though.
Others who have theirs open to public would have anyone be able to view.
It'd tell them who too I assume - I have public Instagram and it tells me who has viewed my story even if they aren't a follower.

Mnhealth202020 · 23/07/2020 01:34

Surely anyone with a snapchat account knows this

FlamedToACrisp · 23/07/2020 01:43

What are these 'stories'? Do you just mean ordinary FB posts, like if someone said where they'd been today, or is this a new thing?

mummabear1967 · 23/07/2020 01:45

No, it’s basically a feature on Facebook ( and Snapchat, Instagram and WhatsApp) were you can add a photo with or without text on it and it stays on for 24 hours then deletes itself. And your friends can click into and view it whilst it is up
FlamedToACrisp · 23/07/2020 01:50

OK, thanks @mummabear1967 I can't really see why that would be useful, but hey.

FortunesFave · 23/07/2020 01:59

I assumed so because people on Instagram know if you've watched their story.

sergeilavrov · 23/07/2020 02:17

I only ever watch people’s stories accidentally, when I hit them while scrolling back to the top, and now I’m a bit concerned that the people who post them will believe I’m interested in their photographic ramblings. This one was news to me Blush

This. I’ve never intentionally watched a story but they display as a scroll at the top of the FB landing page and occasionally my fat fingers tap one. I’m now imagining all these random people I care little about smugly preening that I must FB stalk them because I’m desperate to see their latest story and know what they’re up to.
ComtesseDeSpair · 23/07/2020 02:31

For the sake of your straw poll I’d assumed it did tell the poster because it does on Instagram and Snapchat but wasn’t certain.

flyingant · 23/07/2020 02:31

I'd assume yes, because I know you can see viewers on instagram stories.

Hangingover · 23/07/2020 02:34

Yes, I think my ex and my old boss who apparently can't stand me we're both very embarrassed when they learnt this Grin

Bloodybridget · 23/07/2020 02:36

I never even understood what FB stories were. So thanks for the thread, OP!

kateandme · 23/07/2020 02:44

i know this.especially on intagram because the hinchettes practically orgasm when it shows mrs hinch or stacey solomon has watched.
and they desperetly tag them in their stories to try and get them to see.
then in their next stories they take a snapshot and highlight and circle where it shows they have been watched by their queeensssss!!!!

Marchitectmummy · 23/07/2020 02:49

I wouldn't read into it much. By all accounts I read all of my friends stories but reality is I get a consent reminder until I watch it on my phone so I flick through them all.
