How many books have you read so far this year?

I’m on 43. Trying to do 52 by the end of the year. My New Years resolution was to do 12 but I did that in 12 weeks so upped my game. Begrudgingly I’ll admit lockdown has been very helpful in improving my stats.
How many books have you read this year and what has been your favourite?

  1. I’m keeping a log on Goodreads and I’m aiming for 50.
LunaNorth · 22/07/2020 15:09

Forgot to put my favourites.

I’ve really enjoyed Lanny by Max Porter; Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo; The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead and City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Ooh yes, and The Mirror and the Light.

Around 100. I am a speed reader and read a lot

Kote · 22/07/2020 15:23

30 - that was my goal for the year. Aiming for 50 now.

Literaryseed · 22/07/2020 15:23

32 so far. Usually do between 50/60 a year. No change this year - worked throughout lockdown.

notacooldad · 22/07/2020 15:24

None.

AliasGrape · 22/07/2020 15:28

I usually aim for around 50-70 books a year so would usually be on about 30 by now, with a huge surge in numbers about to come over the summer holidays.

However I got pregnant at the end of last year and my ability to focus on a book seemed to vanish overnight. I’ve only read 15 this year and the baby is due next week so I don’t see that number climbing much higher now!

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 22/07/2020 15:36

One novel
One graphic novel

Just haven't had the time somehow... and i haven't even watched any tv either!

I have managed 20 audiobooks though as i listen to them on commute and when doing housework.

VirginiaWolverine · 22/07/2020 16:08

Around 100ish - I'm not sure. I have around 80 on my kindle, I've read 11 library e-books, and I'm sure not how many paper books I've read or reread. And I've read a lot of internet stuff as well, which I haven't counted because they aren't really books, but stuff like fanfic and webcomics and chapters and short stories by writers I support on Patreon. And I haven't counted books I dip into, like poetry and cookery books, unless I've read them from start yo finish as complete work. A lot of the books I've read this year have been page-turners rather than challenging and complex works of literature.

  1. My target (as per Goodreads) was 30 for the year. I read a lot, every single day for minimum half an hour.

I love reading!

GoshHashana · 22/07/2020 16:18

26 so far. Just behind target to read 50 in 2020!

TheCanyon · 22/07/2020 16:21

Probably about 250/300. Read for hours every night and with lockdown have often read a book in a day.

TimeforaGandT · 22/07/2020 16:28

45 - I normally aim for about 50 in a year so this has been a bonanza year for me. I read in bed at night, if I wake early and if I have free time during the day/evening.

Favourites so far:

The Woman in White - Wilkie Collins
Hamnet - Maggie O’Farrell
The Thief of Time - John Boyne
Circe - Madeleine Miller
All the Light We Cannot See - Anthony Doerr

AgentProvocateur · 22/07/2020 16:30

42, and my GR challenge for 2020 was 30. I enjoyed Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier and Girl, Woman, Other.

CurlyMango · 22/07/2020 21:41

About 90 read books plus audio books. Love to read

notacooldad · 23/07/2020 13:28

Crikkey if people are reading up to 300 books in 7 months it sounds like it's a speed read challenge!!
Theres no way I could take the story in and enjoy it at that pace!

burnoutbabe · 23/07/2020 13:32

35 right now as just updated good reads with my e-library borrows since lockdown.

did want to manage 100 in the year but unlikely unless i switch to kids fiction. I can read a book in 2 nights (ie 2 1/2 hours total), but often want to do other stuff before i sleep (games or mumsnet)

LBOCS2 · 23/07/2020 13:33

34, but I'm about to go on my first holiday this year so I'll do probably one a day then.

Lockdown has not helped my reading stats, it has been extremely full on. Last year I'd read about 80 books by this point!

diavlo · 23/07/2020 15:00

I average one a week.

CremeEggThief · 23/07/2020 15:06
  1. Slightly behind on my target of 25 for the year. I don't always have the motivation or concentration to read books.
MarshaBradyo · 23/07/2020 15:08

I read quickly but then feel a bit lost when finished

I read four Nevil Shute books in a row and they were so good I’m not sure where to go next (there might be one more I could read but the Pied Piper was so moving I stopped afterwards).

AuntieMarys · 23/07/2020 15:09
  1. My aim was 60 this year so doing ok
Greentrees33 · 23/07/2020 15:11

9, favourites so far are where the crawdads sing and home going by yaa gyasi.

TinyMetalBirds · 23/07/2020 15:21

I don't know, loads! Some of my favourites have been Once Upon a River; All the Light We Cannot See; and Milkman (it took Lockdown to power me through it but I thought it was fantastic); I have just finished Peaches for Monsieur Le Cure which I liked much better than Lollipop Shoes, the other sequel to Chocolat. Currently reading False Values, in the Rivers of London series.

@happypotamus i read Station 11 last year and thought it amazing, I haven't read anything to top that this year yet.
