SWIMMING! I'm grinning like a loon!

Just been swimming for the first time in 4 months. Ooh! I feel like I'm drunk or something. It was a bit annoying really - quite regimented, no showers, not my normal pool - but I haven't really felt like this all through lockdown.

Don't know why I'm sharing really... Has anyone else just done something they'd really really missed and looked forward to?

@blueirises yep that’s the one. It’s a bit of a drive for us but our nearest open pool at the moment. It’s amazing to be SWIMMING - Grin like a loon - yes! - and outdoors is so lovely, I may join and keep going even when the indoor pools finally get their doors open.

LunaNorth · 25/07/2020 10:58

Just got back. That was wonderful!

Wotrewelookinat · 25/07/2020 11:07

I love swimming and took to open water swimming in desperation during lockdown as I’m near a couple of rivers and the sea (suffolk). Loved it so much I’m actually not keen on going back to the pool experience especially with the restrictions. How do you know which lane to book into? I’m either medium or fast depending on who else is swimming...

ListeningQuietly · 25/07/2020 11:07

Snap. I feel SO MUCH BETTER

Juiceey · 25/07/2020 11:35

I can't WAIT to swim again, your post gives me joy! I'm in herts though and they're not reopening the two outdoor pools. I'm going to ring around leisure centres now and see which ones are opening.

ListeningQuietly · 25/07/2020 12:07

Wot
I knew everybody in the pool so we had a quick natter, ignored the rules and swam how we always had
it was bliss

fartyface · 29/07/2020 07:56

I went swimming yesterday and it was bliss.

I was exhausted by the evening though and starving all afternoon. I'd forgotten the post swimming hunger! I also realised in the pool that my body is now made of jelly. I didn't realise what good swimming had been previously doing to me. Might go again today...

CherryPavlova · 29/07/2020 08:00

Went a few times in the sea off the Suffolk Coast at the weekend. It was a bit bouncier than the Solent but heavenly just the same.

Lovingitinlockdown · 30/07/2020 06:51

You've all inspired me to rejoin the gym so I can take up swimming again! Off to sign up this afternoon! Will be nice to have something good that comes out of lockdown. Thanks all.

ListeningQuietly · 30/07/2020 14:26

I've had 4 swims since my gym re opened
astounding how much muscle tone I'd lost
but my stamina is building back up

and doing yoga classes under the instructor's beady eye is a whole different ball game than wafting around at home Grin

MinnieMountain · 31/07/2020 07:22

I swam in the lake yesterday evening. It was wonderful. It felt like the first proper exercise I've had in months, despite the fact I've been cycling and walking.

Managed 1,200m but I'm saying that was down to the weed Grin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 31/07/2020 09:19

I ordered a wetsuit from Aldi and it arrived yesterday HELL YEAH

fartyface · 31/07/2020 20:02

I m somewhat short of muscle tone too apparently. I thought I had put on lots of weight but I haven't. I have just turned into a blob.

CMOTDibbler · 31/07/2020 21:30

I've had two lake swims this week (one was a coaching session, lots to work on and I was so sore the next day) and pool swims booked for Saturday and Sunday. Not sure if I'm looking forward to the pool or not, but prebooked lanes is going to be far more civilised than usual

Lovingitinlockdown · 31/07/2020 23:16

Went swimming for the first time tonight- t'was amazing! Did 30 lengths in the pool, all on my own 😊

LunaNorth · 02/08/2020 10:36

I just got back from the lake. Blue sky, little white clouds, sunshine, trees, birds dipping and wheeling overhead.

Came back and ate a huge breakfast.

All’s well with the world Smile

itsgettingweird · 02/08/2020 10:56

I've ordered my ds a robe from Osprey on amazon for swimming. It's a towelling robe in a bag they turns into an over head changing robe and the bag bit is at back and acts as water proof layer to keep car seats dry!

Would suggest to any swimmer!

I was very excited to go back swimming. Until that is I decided to start a heavy period 1st of July that hasn't yet stopped Angry

Breathmiller · 02/08/2020 11:08

After decades of not swimming due to an allergy to the chlorine I have found wild swimming this last month. And it is bliss.
The sea once and then a local loch. I am in Scotland and don't have a wet suit. My 9 year old son has been joining me. He gets in and says he feels so alive. Its amazing. I am a total convert.

Busybusy1busy1 · 01/11/2020 16:11

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/555079 anyone keen on open water swimming and wants to keep lidos, lakes etc open over the 2nd lockdown please sign the petition

ListeningQuietly · 01/11/2020 16:16

Signed

BogRollBOGOF · 01/11/2020 16:37

Signed. Not something that I do with any regularity, but for physical and mental health, low-risk, outdoor activities should continue.

AsGhoulAsKimDeal · 01/11/2020 16:41

I've been swimming regularly and loving it since we were let out of lockdown in the summer. So gutted the pool is closing.

munchbunch12 · 01/11/2020 16:51

Signed! I don't even swim outdoors, but don't see any good reason to prevent those who want to from continuing with it.

mum2jakie · 01/11/2020 17:47

Signed. Hoping to keep Hathersage pool open

Busybusy1busy1 · 01/11/2020 18:10
