Help me understand "9th in line to throne"

Following Beatrice getting married, the news refers to her as 9th in line. So does that mean these people would have to die before she was queen...

This is actually not true. RF etiquette does not require people of the same rank to curtsy or bow to each other. All HRH's are the same rank, either by birth or marriage, though they have different places in the line of succession.

I was referring to HRHs who are in the line of succession. Obviously there are people who do not hold royal rank who are in the line of succession, many who are above those who do, the highest non-royal in the line being Archie. Archie will, however, be an HRH when Charles becomes king, although the choice will likely be that he will not be known as such.
