Kitchen aid - which one

nancybotwinbloom · 19/07/2020 21:21

My DH loves baking. I really want to get him a kitchen aid. Is that what it's called?

A big mixer type thing.

Any recommendations please?

It's going to be his Xmas present.

He'd like one that had different utensils to swap.

Buy a Kenwood

SistemaAddict · 19/07/2020 21:31

I love my kitchen aid. Tis a thing of beauty . I use it several times a week to make bread.

feetfreckles · 19/07/2020 21:33

I love mine, but no idea what type it is

Have bread hook, general cake/pastry mixer and whisk as standard and never needed anything else ( don't have any other type of processor )

How much weight can it take...couple of standard loaves worth?

EasterIssland · 19/07/2020 21:39

I’ve got the artisan one I think. The most common one. I bought it of house of Fraser when it had a discount. Shop around as you’ll have somewhere that is for sure cheaper

nancybotwinbloom · 19/07/2020 21:41

These answers are way above my knowledge of baking.

If I get a kenwood, any suggestions on which one?

I will google now

Fucking hell. £300 (nearly) for a big whisk.

Omg.

Kitchen Aid is a brand. Have a google for it. They come in gorgeous colours but are pricy.

SistemaAddict · 19/07/2020 21:44

I think mine was £400+ you can get all sorts of extra bits but I never have. I do fancy the ice cream maker though and would love an extra bowl.

nancybotwinbloom · 19/07/2020 21:45

Is this a good one and well priced?

I have a Kitchen Aid, Artisan and love it. At the time of purchase there was a special offer of a free ice cream maker. I’ve never used it.
I have a shredder/slicer attachment which is great if you’re prepping lots of veg or making your own coleslaw.
It came with a dough hook and I’ve since bought a flex edge beater as it’s better than the standard beater it came with.
With Kitchen Aid there is a large choice of colours which is great as I leave mine on the worktop - quite heavy to lift in and out of cupboards.
For many years I did have a Kenwood and found it to be practical and reliable

You can get some very expensive mixers for sure!!! £300 is only a starting price. You can get attachments which mince meat, make sausages and also to make past shapes!

I cook a great deal, but only have a small kitchen. Years ago I bought a hand held mixer from tescos for about £10 and its still going strong. I can do meringues and it even has bread hooks too. I use it more than when I did have a large mixer as its just so much quicker to get out of the cupboard and wash up.

caramac04 · 19/07/2020 21:49

Your pic shows a good one but you might be able to get it a bit cheaper if you shop around. I got mine from an independent store who carried a huge stock.
Currys sell them as do John Lewis, Lakeland and I’m sure many others.
Definitely have a look as you might get a better deal but the price you see is the standard price so not a rip off.

Ulysses · 19/07/2020 21:50

I think mines cost 300-ish and was on offer at Curry’s. That has a lid for the mixer bowl as an extra so may have other things as well. They only other thing I bought additionally was the flexible beater. I use it a lot and it adds to my kitchen in a way that other brands don’t have.

BikeRunSki · 19/07/2020 21:52

@nancybotwinbloom they go up to £600 for the Titanium XL model.

Thing is, they last for decades. I had DH’s grandma’s for about 10 years. She’d had it for about 30 years before that!

Crookshanksthecat · 19/07/2020 21:52

Love my kitchen aid, it's beautiful but sometimes I wish I had been more adventurous on colour.... mine is cream like your pic.

Witchend · 19/07/2020 21:53

I love my kitchen aid. I have it in black and it's beautiful. You should see the size that an egg can whip into.
I love the extras. My favourite is a juicer adaption, although I'm being tempted by the ice cream maker at the moment.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 19/07/2020 21:53

I have the style in your picture in Gunmetal grey and paid just over £300 for it as it was an old colour. It looks much the same as the new grey colour to me so worth the saving. It was from ao.com but worth shopping around for discontinued colours.

BikeRunSki · 19/07/2020 21:54

My post was about Kenwood Chefs.

caramac04 · 19/07/2020 21:54

Lakeland have good prices

I should add that they do last (well used to me made to last!). My nan is 100, and we still use the machine she got in 1945 as a wedding present! Grin

pennysea · 19/07/2020 21:56

I've got a kitchen aid and wouldn't be without it now. If DH does a lot of baking he will love it. The model I have is the Artisan one and you can get them in a few few colours. I got mine from John Lewis because at that time they were doing an offer where it came with an extra mixing bowl. There is usually and offer like that so it might be worth checking the website.

nancybotwinbloom · 19/07/2020 21:57

Thank you for this advice from everyone I didn't realise they were so expensive!

He loves baking. He does something every weekend to relax.

Out of stock at the moment but says coming soon, great price if you don't mind white.

I have the kitchen aid artisan. I love it because it's strong enough to knead pizza and bread dough. Best money I ever spent! The ease of baking with it is just great!
