Stupidly booked my fee NHS ticket for September instead of when I'm actually in Cornwall.Confused is it worth paying full price for?

I wouldn't go again. I thought it was very New Labour.

happytoday73 · 19/07/2020 20:05

It's probably nice if it's quiet.. I've only been twice.. Quite a few years ago... Very underwhelmed both times. Also found it over priced.

PhilCornwall1 · 19/07/2020 20:05

No, it isn't, a quick once over the biomes isn't worth it.

They do have cracking Eden Sessions thoughGrin

WingBingo · 19/07/2020 20:09

Yeah seen some great bands down there. It’s magical.

I’ve skating in winter is cool too.

WingBingo · 19/07/2020 20:10

I’ve? Ice Skating Grin

Amummyatlast · 19/07/2020 20:12

I thought it was great and well worth the money. We spent the whole day there and loved it. The tickets lasts for a whole year, and we are just about to go back for the second time.

I think if you live locally you might see the Eden project differently - the biomes are really interesting, ice skating in winter, special events throughout the year and the Eden sessions which are fabulous. I still can't see it as tacky or boring or New Labour(!)

optimisticpessimist01 · 19/07/2020 20:24

Give them a call see if you can change your date, I can't see why it would be a problem!

Erm I wouldn't say so, the domes are interesting but its just a load of plants really, unless you are there when there's an event on

Bargebill19 · 19/07/2020 20:29

No.

Horsemad · 19/07/2020 20:32

Café outrageously expensive!

wentawaycameback · 19/07/2020 20:36

To be honest - read up about Eden before you go because that's exactly what it is - 'a load of plants' - don't expect more and you won't be disappointed.

concernedforthefuture · 19/07/2020 20:38

Yes if you take your time to read the info, look at the details etc. If you just whizz around the rainforest biomes, probably not.
We live fairly locally and go 3 times a year or more and have done since the kids were babies. They're 10 and 8 now and still love it. We always spend a full day there but don't see everything each time.
It's best when they have their special events, which probably aren't on at the moment. Christmas at Eden is magical.
It's a charity and needs support more than ever - they've just made a huge chunk of their workforce redundant Sad.

SummerSazz · 19/07/2020 20:38

The Lost Gardens of Helligan are much better IMO!

lorn195 · 19/07/2020 20:40

@PhilCornwall1 I agree the Eden sessions with Bryan Adams and Kylie were great, but then so was Gary Barlow

Isn't it something like 50% of the staff made redundant? Pretty sure I read it was that amount on Cornwall Live.

Dunno, didn't see him. 😉

C152H · 19/07/2020 20:44

No, I didn't think it was.

Floralnomad · 19/07/2020 20:46

We’ve been three times and have always been a tad underwhelmed , that said I’ve not been for a few years and do plan to go in early December when I’m in the area as we’ve always gone in the spring / summer before .

mindutopia · 19/07/2020 20:56

I think it's really nice and we went when dd was probably 4. I'd definitely go again.

I think it depends on how much money you have to spend (is it truly a stretch to spend that much money on a day out and will you be stressing out the cost?) and if you are the sort that needs 'entertainment'? I thought it was really interesting and we spent a whole day there. But if you are more of a Thorpe Park/Legoland and not really a botanical garden type, then yes, you might think it's not all that exciting.

I would definitely go back and pay full price though.

IndecentFeminist · 19/07/2020 21:08

We love it there, one of my favourite places. Always book online for a slight discount.

concernedforthefuture · 20/07/2020 08:56

@PhilCornwall1 Yes, 40-50% of their staff are set to lose their jobs:

www.itv.com/news/westcountry/2020-07-15/eden-project-to-cut-almost-half-of-its-jobs

AlwaysCheddar · 20/07/2020 09:04

Jeez... just looked at the cost - £75 for a family of 4!!!

BogRollBOGOF · 20/07/2020 09:16

We parkrunned (parkran?) in last year so felt happier about the cost of food, which is dear, but good quality and locally/ ethically sourced which always bumps a price up.

I wouldn't pay full rate to go in every year and leave years between as I want the DCs to keep a sense of wonder about it.
We're nowhere near local enough to benefit from free returns in a year.

It is basically the biomes, gardens and museum type science/ environmental/ earth science type displays. We tend to leave when the kids are knacked not because they exhausted it.

I'd see if you can shift your date. If not it is a great, distinctive but not cheap day out ( and they are desperate on funds at present)
