Fancy an adult picnic to use my new picnic basket. I’ve not been on a child free picnic in years!! What should I pack that’s indulgent.

I'd go with nice snacks bits
Posh cookies
Nice crisps

Good cheese
Grapes and other fresh fruit
Prosecco
Crackers and hummus
Scones? Cake?
Rollitos

Basically anything that looks good in the supermarket!!

I’d do Greek theme with posh olives, spanakopita, houmous, pitta breads, tabbouleh, Greek salad, tsatziki, dolmades, grilled aubergines, gigantes beans etc etc etc...

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 20:27

Soft cheese, crusty bread, bit of fruit, jar of those grilled peppers in oil, nice olives, posh lemonade, coffee.

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2020 20:29

Baguette and butter or pâté
Pork pie but nice ones from butcher
Artichokes
Cheeses
Homemade quiche
Salads
Champagne
Homemade chocolate eclairs (kept cool)

Sun dried tomatoes and selection of sliced meats - mortadella maybe

Rebelwithallthecause · 18/07/2020 20:36

I really fancy some tasty adult picnic food now

picklemewalnuts · 18/07/2020 20:39

Keep it simple.

At Uni we had French stick, Brie, green apples and Asti.

Hard to beat. Add some grapes, cherry plum toms and olives if you fancy posh.

I made these lovely salad jars when my adult stepsons and partners came for a picnic a couple of weeks ago. They stay nice and crunchy as the dressing is on the bottom then you just pour them out onto a plate. Plus we had crusty bread, olives, tabbouleh, nice cheese (Camembert when it's warm tastes so much nicer!) and a summer cake, plus a good couple of cool bags, we took lots of cold bubbly.

Adult picnic food.

Damn, I fancy cheese now and I'm on the 16/8 Confused

MarshaBradyo · 18/07/2020 20:46

I can do the cheese and artichokes atm but not the carby stuff. Does sound nice in theory though.

DameFanny · 18/07/2020 20:46

I want brie Sad

skankingpiglet · 18/07/2020 20:50

Just anything you enjoy, and particularly anything you otherwise don't get to eat due to fussy children/husband or because they gorge themselves on all your favourites before you get a look in stares hard at DD1 . Personally I tend to head to the nearest Waitrose or M&S to pick some nice stuff someone else has gone to the trouble of making Grin Before DCs I would make everything from scratch, but those days are now long gone.

For me, good crusty bread, strong gooey cheese, crisps, olives, marinated squid rings, and a dip are a good combination plus anything unusual that catches my eye.

Rebelwithallthecause · 18/07/2020 20:50

Some Boursin

PatriciaHolm · 18/07/2020 20:52

Thats a brilliant idea, I'd add some skordalia to that list and probably knock someone out with my breath afterwards.

We do tapas picnics on occasion, very easy to get all the bits from Waitrose and I found a lovely tortilla recipe.

HeronLanyon · 18/07/2020 21:02

All sounds lovely ! I’d add in proper cutlery/plates/glasses/condiments - makes all the difference if you can transport them safely (perhaps your basket has them included and strapped in ?)

weegiemum · 18/07/2020 21:04

Go to a nice deli and a nice bakery instead of the supermarket. 2-3 nice cheeses, same of meats, pate, maybe nice baby quiches or sausage rolls, fresh berries, home made cake/cookies, bottle of white wine (for me, a Sauvignon Blanc) in a chiller.

Dh is off on Monday, might suggest a picnic!

PurpleDaisies · 18/07/2020 21:05

@sqirrelfriends it’s basically what we had for tea. It’s warm and sunny here so I didn’t really feel like cooking much. I opened a lot of tins of really nice things! I was thinking how nice it would have been as a picnic. Skordalia is an excellent addition.
