Thank you, 'Esme' Grin

And, what you said: A GP surgery understands about infection and deals with it on a regular basis, that they should practically shut down for 4/5 months is nothing short of scandalous to me

BogRollBOGOF · 18/07/2020 02:16

I've been socialising responsibly with friends.
It's for the public good Wink

countrygirl99 · 18/07/2020 06:55

thethreeofweevils this was something that kept coming up in our dementia support group the other day. It is shocking and people who haven't needed a GP recently don't seem to understand. They just assume that if you aren't phoning about a broken nail it's just a formality you heed to do to get in for a proper appointment.

Willow2017 · 18/07/2020 07:10

@juggler82

Can I have a whinge please? Our holiday in Scotland was cancelled by the company today. Ok we thought, let’s cancel the other bits and pieces and focus on booking something else. Then we got a second email from the company saying they’d cancelled because we live in Leicester. We live a good 2 hours drive from Leicester. I think I’d be narked even if I did live in Leicester. FFS, I need more wine, and they need better bloody maps.
Send an email asking them to get someone who can read a map to do thier bookings and cancellations! Point out you aren't anywhere near Leicester and to get a grip. And poibt out if people 2hrs and x miles away from L are being cancelled that's ridiculous and bad for business. Stick it on thier FB too.

World's gone mad.

mightbealittlebitmad · 18/07/2020 07:31

@Willow2017 I would do the same too. I would get it out there as much as I could because that's totally ludicrous. I would definitely rebook with someone else, I wouldn't want a company totally incompetent having my money. If they are going to insist on such stupid rules at least do it properly and look at a map.

Mrsfrumble · 18/07/2020 07:58

That’s bonkers! If they’re judging on a radius of a 2 hour drive from Leicester that would probably include us here in London (on a good traffic day), and a huge chunk of the country. They definitely deserve to have their lunacy made public.

DH is refusing to engage in the subject of holidays. My mum is so concerned that we won’t get a break she’s offered us money towards it (which is sweet but unnecessary), but when I started to tell him about it he cut me off with “it’s none of her business!”. I’m thinking of accepting the money, booking a holiday let and taking the children on the train to the seaside for a few days, leaving grumpy sod DH at home.

Fairly certain I could make it to the Leicester Quarantine Zone in 2 hours from Milton Keynes 🤔 so they're cutting out a huge area of business!

I havent been able to read much of the last 600 posts or so, any news I can be filled in on?

PinkFondantFancy · 18/07/2020 08:18

@Mrsfrumble I know it would be less of a 'holiday' in the traditional sense but maybe just you and the kids could get away to the seaside or something for a few nights and leave him behind? Maybe if he knows that's the alternative he might get FOMO and come afterall? Why doesn't he want to engage? Is he anxious about getting out and about or worried about something else? Or even better get away even for one night on your own and leave kids with him?

@theThreeofWeevils that's absolutely dreadful. Is there anyone you can complain to? The practice manager maybe? I'm sorry you're going through this, the worry must be awful :(

Not a lot to update you all on really. Drinks with friends last night, drinks with friends tonight. Dry July didn't last all that long Blush but I figured drinks with friends is a very different sort of drinks than drinks with Netflix for something to do.... I'm slightly alarmed at my rate of weight gain though. Really need to get it more under control but feels hard to do when we're both working really hard so preparing food is a faff and time for exercise is laughable

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/07/2020 08:21

Sociable drinks are definitely an exemption from dry July. We should have called it ‘no more drinking on the sofa watching Netflix to alleviate the boredom of lockdown’ July.
On the weight gain thing... me too. DH has just gone to McDonald’s to get me a sausage and egg McMuffin. My last blow out!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 18/07/2020 08:24

I thought they closed the GPs because I expected this thing to be bleak. I thought it’d be an “all hands on deck” triaging covid patients on trollies in the car park.

As it turned out - the slightest whiff of Covid and you were directed elsewhere.

As someone else said, the supermarket workers, couriers et al just had to crack on and the medics pulled up the drawbridge.

Baffling. But I’m guessing they’re being thwarted by the same people hindering Scottish nhs dentists.

ButterMeCrumpets · 18/07/2020 08:25

Uh I am in the 'never drinking again' camp today. I need to get rid of lockdown pounds so cutting it out should help Grin

Bloody dentists. My mum had a routine appointment booked for next week. In addition she lost a filling over lockdown, so it was going to be a welcome appt. They text her to cancel. She mentioned it to her friend from work who is at the same practice but a private patient, who said ‘how funny, I’ve got an appointment the same day and they’ve just text me to confirm’. My mum wasn’t impressed so phoned them. The receptionist said they were unfortunately having to cancel all routine appointments. Mum mentioned her colleague, receptionist said ‘ah, err, yeah, we’re seeing some private patients for routine appointments’. Mum mentioned her broken filling. Receptionist said ‘well you should have told us about that as we would have seen you’. Mum told her about the three times she’d called about it over lockdown, for them to tell her they’d deal with it in her next routine appointment, which was the one they’d just cancelled. Receptionist disappeared for 5 mins to see if she could find a way of squeezing my mum in. Came back and offered her exactly the same appointment slot they’d just cancelled!!! Long boring story, but just highlights how fucking idiotic it has all become. On the other hand our GP’s have been great and despite a telephone triage, are inviting anyone in that they think needs to be seen. Anyone elderly who struggles with telephone consultations is getting a home visit or a face to face appointment.

Morning all. Think MN site had a problem last night but I have noticed these threads are taking longer to fill.

Last one was definitely because we got invaded but I think it's mainly because we're getting a lot busier IRL - which is so great! I'll keep checking in because you've been such a lifeline, kept me sane and made me a lot better at reading and understanding data. You've also made me laugh many, many times when the rest of the world just looked shit. But, in some ways, I guess it will be a good thing when these threads fizzle as presumably that means life back to normal?

Don't think it will be for a while yet as clearly the idiots in charge aren't capable of the same critical thinking that we all are. But one day I guess and I'll feel sad but also happy.

We put a comment on their Facebook yesterday, it had mysteriously disappeared this morning. We’ll try and get through on the phone lines today, if that doesn’t work I might be getting myself a twitter account.

I had the same thought and it made me feel very conflicted. Happy that the AD thread is needed less, but a bit sad because of the camaraderie I've enjoyed on this

@theThreeofWeevils completely understand the concern - delays with my DDad's treatments have ended up putting him in hospital.

They did see nurse who then had to wait on GP who take a few days then it would be a phone appointmnet - then they waited on consultant appoinments who then wasn't there but nurses who couldn't admit couldn't perscribe so sent back to GP who then took serveral days to do anything and round and round.

In middle of that number of time they've had blood and bandages appointments changed to phone calls is unbeliveable. Mum's resorted to puting pictures though letter box.

Up shot he'd been left in pain with a now ranging infection affecting all his underlying conditions for a nearly a month. I'm several hundred miles away relient on public transport. It's only now we are really hearing how bad it's been and I still can't really help and the hospital isn't allowing any visitors at all.

SockYarn · 18/07/2020 08:52

I'm still trying to find out which restaurants in my area have signed up for Rishi's cheap dinners in August.

We've had takeaways throughout but going out to have a meal someone else has cooked and washed up after is going to be so lovely.

NothingIsWrong · 18/07/2020 08:53

I am back on the food wagon again. I lost a stone at the start of lockdown when I was being all positive etc. Every single bit of it has gone back on again.

Poached eggs for breakfast. My problem is working from home is so close to the fucking fridge...

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 18/07/2020 08:54

I’m trying to get out and do stuff over the summer as we need to be so cautious about track and trace once DD goes back to school: she’s missed so much already and been so sad that I can’t bear the thought of having to tell her that she has to be off school for a fortnight. So we’ll be living a very boring life from September till Christmas.

In other news my DM doesn’t want to see us. At least she says she does, but she doesn’t want us in her house. Since I’m not dragging DD from London to Carlisle just so we can stand outside in the rain and wave at her, we won’t be going.

Drivingdownthe101 · 18/07/2020 08:55

We go away on the 2nd August so mon-weds we plan to go to a different ‘Rishi’s dinners’ place each day!

ButterMeCrumpets · 18/07/2020 08:59

The fridge is my problem as well and it is being used far more with WFH than the vending machine was in the office Sad.

I am also struggling as we used to go out for a walk at lunch time with my colleagues but I just can't motivate myself to do a walk by myself.

KaronAVyrus · 18/07/2020 09:10

I’m not getting a holiday this year (ours was cancelled in April) as DH and I just can’t get our work schedules to coincide. Absolutely not complaining as we both thought that we would be out of work now so we see it as a nice problem to have.
Anyway, fully intending to make the most of Rishi’s dining offer and will support local, independent restaurants next month.

HereComesYourMam · 18/07/2020 09:12

I'm feeling really flat today. Another grey cloudy meh day. DS finished primary school yesterday (Y6), so I guess I'm a bit emotionally wrung out from that. The summer hols feel like a weird limbo time this year, and we haven't heard anything from our secondary school about what's happening in September, so that doesn't help. The not knowing about things in general is just so wearing after a while.
