Thank you to whoever recommended The Choice. I downloaded the kindle version this evening and am already a third of the way through. Briefly explained the plot to DH, who thought it was quite a good idea but that's the point isn't it. Measures for our own good sound like a reasonable thing until it's forced, taken too far and used by people as a form of control over others. Timely indeed.
The village playground may be reopening! Apparently at our own risk blah blah blah, that's all I'm asking for, the right to make my own risk assessments!
DH thought it was totally reasonable that they felt they couldn't open for fear of being sued. I did point out that was practically impossible given someone would have to prove that they caught it there and even then they should be washing their hands after so really there's no case to be made.
Fear and control...
DS1(14) mentioned the upcoming compulsory masking and asked if it wasn't a bit late for that and should they not have done it ages ago if they were going to do it at all.
DS2(12) said anything that makes it safer is surely a good thing, but then his reaction to the playground news was "is that safe?"
Fear and control.
You can tell which one takes after me! I did want to cry though, at DS2's response. I've done nothing to reinforce this and been very relaxed about risk, he's still managed to take on the brainwashing. He's quite a rule follower though and wants to be a police officer so I suppose that works for him.
DH has surprised me with his slight dementor tendencies and I can only attribute it to too much time on Facebook...
I've surprised myself by how angry I am getting about things, but I'm feeling more rebellious by the day... Apologies for ranting (the book may not be helping!).
