Has anyone actually had a refund from Ryanair?

They are really trying my patience. Was supposed to go to Spain with a friend at the end of March, they cancelled the flight (Spain locked down by then). Email said to apply for a refund, or could have a voucher valid for a year. I clicked on the 'apply for refund' bit and nothing happened. Went to website and eventually found an email address for customer service - email bounced back. Hung on phone for ages and gave up. Grrr! Tried the link a few days later and it worked. Great. But no refund yet. Website says to be patient. Then today, I had an email reminding me to use my voucher! Bastards. I bloody hate them. Has anyone else had this/had their money back? My friend was hospitalised with breathing difficulties earlier in the year and there's no way we're going to be travelling any time soon. She is skint too. We want our money!

We got ours back for flights for a holiday in mid-April. It took about a month to come through but we were investigating how to get it back via our bank too.

NewSpark · 16/07/2020 21:06

We had flights booked for 30th March, we eventually got a refund 2 weeks ago, but I remembered I'd paid by card but via PayPal and raised complaint through them at start of June. I'm not sure if that helped get it back quicker as i got email from Ryanair direct advising we would receive refund in next 5-7 days , at same time PayPal confirmed they closed case in our favour

Yes me. Supposed to fly mid-April. Refund arrived on Monday.

Still waiting for mine, from March flights. Pissed off that they don't seem to be doing it in date order.

Blackcurrant66 · 16/07/2020 21:12

No. Meant to fly in May. But I haven’t chased it up. A friend got a voucher after requesting a refund and then ended up being happy to use it for next year. Think it allowed you to book any flight or something and the original ticket was a cheap internal. So I suppose they’re just hoping more people will do that and they can keep hold of the cash.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 16/07/2020 21:25

If you were given a voucher (despite asking for a refund) you had to contact them again to ask to go on the refund list (yes despite asking for a refund in the first place!) I'd you are on the refund list then they will (slowly) refund you (not sure in what order) but if you don't ask to go on the refund list then you won't get a refund until after the voucher expires in 12 months (unless you use it before it expires).

Greydove28 · 16/07/2020 21:44

No we haven't received a refund from our April flights. Claimed with them and nothing. I don't want a voucher. Im going to claim using my credit card i think now

MirandaGoshawk · 18/07/2020 12:30

OK thanks all. Much appreciated. Will contact Paypal.

Hope the Paypal route works.

Please don't fly with them again.

StripeyDeckchair · 18/07/2020 12:51

Still want my money back for flights they cancelled 2 years ago.

Ryan Air are bastards its virtually impossible to contact them and they will argue black is white despite all the evidence to the contrary.

I will never fly with them again

FoodieToo · 18/07/2020 12:53

Yes but they are very slow and you have to be persistent. I received a refund last week for flights on the 17th April .

jammyjoey · 18/07/2020 12:53

I used there online chat service and they accepted I wanted a refund, sent me an email confirming this and have put me in a queue. Was due to fly end of May and have heard most refunds should be completed by end of July. If I don't have it in the next week or so I think I will contact my bank and try the chargeback thing

LoafingLiz · 18/07/2020 12:55

I completed the refund form 3 months ago. After trying various ways of contacting them I finally got through to live chat this week. I have received an email saying refund 5-7 days but no mention of the additional money I paid for seats.

Not holding my breath. If the flight refund comes through I'll start the live chat process again for refund of 5 seats.

EmmaC78 · 18/07/2020 12:58

I requested a refund in March and it only got paid in the last two or three weeks. I went on to the FB live chat in June and requested a refund (after already doing it on the website in March) and that seemed to speed up the process. The refund came about 3 weeks after the FB chat.

Meandyouandyouandme · 18/07/2020 13:00

I’m still waiting for a refund from mid March, probably one of the first cancelled flights, I haven’t chased them though, so maybe that’s where I’ve gone wrong.

LaChatte · 18/07/2020 13:03

I eventually got a refund after speaking to someone on the chat thing (despite having already done all the stuff mentioned in the OP). I had to be quite insistent that I wanted a refund and not a voucher. Refund came through about a month after chat conversation (flights cancelled beginning of April, refunded mid June).

KatyChe · 18/07/2020 13:14

I'm still waiting. I'll chase them up next week. Flights were mid April. We're owed about £300.

MirandaGoshawk · 19/07/2020 14:57

Thanks all. It's soooo tiresome. I know they don't want to issue refunds, and I understand why. But circs, you know. They've had my money for about a year. I've had some crap service from them in the past, and this, including the lack of refunds sets clear blue water between them and reputable companies.

Yes yesterday! From our holiday which should have been on 24th March Hmm

Roselilly36 · 19/07/2020 15:03

No not as yet, our trip was mid March. Lucky for us the flights were cheap, so not bothered, but we will vote with our feet & never book Ryanair in future.

LoafingLiz · 19/07/2020 20:05

Refund came through today, now to try and claim back extras.

goingtotown · 19/07/2020 21:23

The voucher they offer expires after a year.
I’m still waiting for my cancelled flight refund from April.

MirandaGoshawk · 20/07/2020 12:48

The voucher expires after a year and then you're supposed to be able to claim your money back. but I don't trust them to refund it then if they won't refund it now. Bastards. how come you've been refunded and I haven't? I always knew they hated me Grin

We’ve just had to fill out a “Customer Verification Request”. Apparently because we book through something called a screen scraper website (🤷🏻‍♀️) such as Love Holidays, Ryan Air don’t have our details so we have to fill out a form with proof of booking, copy of passport etc to say that we want a refund. It’s such a pain. I’ve lost count of how many different ways I’ve had to request a bloody refund!
