Really feel for you and your DD. It is shit. Rant away.

@DominaShantotto No, you haven't brought the tone down. Let's report away!

No you're absolutely right.

“highlight what a cesspit of morality devoid of compassion the masked warriors are on here right now.”

^that sums it up perfectly - the revulsion & hatred towards disabled people isn’t even hidden now. They are revelling in the opportunity to put in the boot while being on the right side. It isn’t just the usual suspects either & the point has come where bring scared isn’t an excuse. It is hideous. I don’t think I have ever been so upset by anything I have read on the internet than by the callous batting away of the suicides (5 successful 2 left with life changing injuries) of those children. They just don’t give a fuck - nothing will make them accept that decisions they support has lead to enormous harm. Absolutely nothing. There were better ways of doing things & those children should have been protected.

I’m going mad. Earlier today, I checked the numbers infected and I’m sure they were over 1k. Now it’s showing as 398. What am I missing?

It was always 398 from what I saw.
TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 14/07/2020 22:14

You’re not going mad. Worldometer originally showed the day’s new cases plus some extra historical ones. Now it just shows the new ones.

RubberDinghyRapids · 14/07/2020 22:15

Well.... I shall pop my noggin above the parapet and come out and say it.

I don't mind wearing a mask in shops.

It's probably because I wear them at work and I'm desensitised to the look and feel of it. And I'm ok with doing my bit in terms of mitigation (even though there's FUCK ALL community virulence where I live). BUT.... I am very worried about the general tone, not just on MN but on wider social media, of "it's fine for me, so you should do it too because I'm telling you to". It's even worse when they say it with a disclaimer pretending to acknowledge that other people can't. It's as obvious as "I'm not racist but....". If you give a shit about other people's views and experiences you wouldn't be so sanctimonious.

So therefore my statement shall be "I don't mind wearing a mask in shops but that's the decision that I'm making that is right for me". The end.

torydeathdrug · 14/07/2020 22:31

Yeah 392 in the UK 372 in England. This is the last few days of England numbers - they’ll probably increase as more are added in.

My brother’s LA haven’t had a case since June 13th (& they’ve had fewer than 300 in total)! At the doom-zoom tonight SIL told me she wasn’t going out til next spring. I really need to stop letting it irritate me. They have the right to be odd - their disapproval of my trip to Topshop was trumped by sister & BIL booking three (!) UK holidays this August & the rest of us saying that was bloody brilliantly Grin

Dowser · 14/07/2020 22:41

I’ve spotted this on another group
I really don’t know how accurate it is and how much you want to fight..if it is accurate

Well, this is going to be awkward. Remember, social distancing means that shop staff cannot touch you or come within 1 metre without breaking guidelines, and if you refuse to wear a mask in their shop cannot physically throw you out, but can only call the police to enforce a government 'guideline'. The big problem for the police is that that would be breaking the Law if they tried to enforce a 'guideline', because police can only legally enforce Criminal Law.

If the police detain you, or arrest you because, naturally, you have refused to cooperate, they are then guilty of unlawful detention, which comes under the criminal code of 'kidnapping'.

If they try to fine you, without first 'kidnapping' you, you are not obliged to give them any information, not even your name, and without your name they cannot issue a fine.

If they find out your name, by whatever means and then issue a fine, you can simply state that you refuse to accept or pay any fine and they will then be obliged to caution you, which would be totally illegal since you will not have committed any crime (guidelines being optional to follow) and again, they would not be enforcing any law.

Know the difference: Guidelines come under 'civil law' and crimes come under 'criminal law'. The police are not allowed to enforce 'civil law' - only the local authority and the civil courts can attempt to do that. So, demand that the Court issue you with a date for an appearance, and when/if you go to court your defence will be illegal detention and kidnapping, and in the civil court you will be able to demand substantial compensation as a counter-claim from the police, plus insist that criminal charges are brought against the arresting and detaining officers.

Now, nobody says that it will get to that stage, indeed it would be very unlikely to, but can you imagine how the Courts will be clogged up for years, perhaps decades, trying to process those bloody awkward bastards who had the bald-faced cheek to know the Law and also know their civil rights.

PS: Ensure you use your phone and record the whole even, to be used as leverage and evidence. But just remember this one fact - the police cannot enforce civil Law and therefore have no rights in determining whether or not you have to wear a mask, just because the government says so. That process would be called a 'dictatorship' and we are not quite there yet, despite this government's valiant attempts to make it so.

NothingIsWrong · 14/07/2020 22:43

Wales dumped a load of historical data today. 1240 if you include it, 398 without

PickAChew · 14/07/2020 22:50

@wanderings

I'm now starting to report mask threads as belonging in the CV topic. If the dementors want telltales, that's what they shall get. There were some good fun threads recently (unusual family behaviours), but many of them are inactive.
I like your style. Pisses me off that anyone who posts a pit being distressed by a mask gets the ventilator bullshit.
Dowser · 14/07/2020 22:50

We’ve had a fabulous normal day in South Shields.
My dgs is 13 today, so while he and his family had a paddle board me and mr Dowser enjoyed a mini picnic.

Not a mask to be seen. Then a walk through the busy funfair , all extremely normal, to sambucas where we had an excellent three course meal for £7. Walked straight in. No masks. No sd. Brilliant
They catered beautifully for me and mr d’s gf and df diets

Then a nice walk along the pier and A walk back through the sand dunes to the car and a drive home via Whitburn, seaburn, roker and seaham
Getting home about 8 pm

I honestly can’t believe this madness is still raging on. I feel like I live on another planet
Went to morrisons yesterday and saw one muzzle

Totally ludicrous
Is there something else at play?
If Boris is wondering why the high streets are empty..here’s your answer

And even dementory bbc had a police chief on saying there was no way they could police every shop.

And, tbh, unless it's that bloody woman moving the furniture in Laura Ashley, most retail workers have better things to do.

I'm pleased I've stuck with M&S food because it's bloody cold in there so I could probably tolerate walking around re-breathing warm air longer than elsewhere. First sign of light headedness I'd be ripping it off, though. I'm hypermobile and prone to blood pressure drops when I overheat.

I first met dh at South Shields.

I was married to ex at the time and dh was all of about 23. Half his life ago!

The roolz of being an AD:
We are allowed to vent the small stuff because we are human, and that's life and life matters.
We are allowed to vent the big stuff too.
We are allowed to politely and eloquently see the world in shades of grey.
We're allowed to enjoy ourselves even in a pandemic.
We're allowed to cope with dark humour and irreverence, because we are human and life matters.

And that's what brings us together and gives us strength for thread after thread.

Here we are in another dementor cycle. It stings because this one touches us all. It stings because whatever our preferences are about masks, we can see a bigger picture and how others are impacted differently to us, yet it feels like a majority are crowing and gloating at the cost of invisible difficulties. It's not a real majority. The majority sigh quietly and get on with things. They don't have the energy to battle on and on on the same ground.

The dementors will not win. They might temporarily have this little battle, but they will lose the war. There will be a return to something that is very recognisably our old normal. Masks will not be around forever- well I give the plastic ones in landfill 500 years... that'll be a joy for future archaeologists...

BogRollBOGOF · 14/07/2020 23:30

I've had a lovely evening at my outdoor fitness class, with my lovely normal instructor and then we had a lovely meal and drinks (sadly I'm the only sober one as I had to drive) in a lovely beer garden.
So good for the soul.

justasking111 · 14/07/2020 23:38

Wonder if the dementors are suffering from a lack of loving. Lacking all those lovely endorphins that are released.

justasking111 · 14/07/2020 23:40

DIL took GS for his whole hour at school today, he ran in through the school gates in his bubble of three whooping with joy. The teacher smiled, parents smiled except for one mother who clung to her child, who clung to her in terror. The mother gave the teacher and parents the death stare. DIL said if it was so awful why on earth had the mother bothered to come?

ILoveTotoro · 14/07/2020 23:44

Had a shit day. We're on holiday atm in Northumberland been having a lovely time til today

the dc were wanting to spend their holiday money so we went to Morpeth. A fucking jobsworth "guarding" the door of a charity shop full on shouted at my 11 year old as she went in for "going the wrong way". i just think it's unacceptable to speak to a kid like that. Also dd has anxiety which she's only developed since coronavirus. So I just said oh forget it dd I can't be bothered with this. And we just walked out. but then when I got outside and told dh I just saw red and thought actually no fuck this. and went back to tell the manager how out of order it was for dd to be shouted at. She then got shirty with me, defending the staff member, "it's just the RULESSS " and then I ended up losing my shit at her 😳.
And Some bloke stood earwigging said to me "if you don't like the rules JUST STAY AT HOME" (well red rag to an AD bull that comment) so I called him a fucking dick head and stormed out

And just about every shop we tried to go in was a similar shitty, shitty negative experience with skittish staff and customers

We just felt really unwelcome everywhere

I just feel like the atmosphere has already got worse in shops since the mask announcement. and I'm meant to be on holiday having a nice time meh 😑

HeIenaDove · 14/07/2020 23:52

My brother has ordered five face shields for us Its just me and DH but the choices were 1 or 5 so we went for the 5

I bet it still wont be good enough though.

justasking111 · 14/07/2020 23:55

I read somewhere that Morpeth had suffered death wise, as did the NE generally. Northumberland trust had 202 deaths I only noticed because relatives lived there once upon a time. That might be why they are so jittery. Here in my trust 373 deaths but too many were care home staff and the welsh are a bit fatalistic, so shop staff friendly and welcoming. Just a thought.

BogRollBOGOF · 14/07/2020 23:56

I'm sorry that it was rubbish and it tainted your day.
That's one day dampened for you, but with crappy attitudes like that, they risk ruining their business. Dementors like that will always end up losing in the long run.
