Some houses make me feel sick

Anyone get this? We are house hunting atm. Saw 3 today. One gave me morning sickness esque nausea pretty much from the moment we walked in, with no obvious reason (eg stinky paint or wobbly floors - it was a pretty nice house, just not to my taste). I’ve had this 3 times before. Once at an Air BNB and once at a friend’s house.

I’m just wondering if it’s a vibe or a spidey sense or is it just because I’m that shallow that places not to my taste give me the quease Confused

Not nausea but anxious, like stomach in knots with an overwhelming feeling of wanting to get out of there.
Weird.

I have a friend who is a hoarder. I feel overwhelmed and anxious in that house. On edge and uncomfortable.
I want to run a million miles away.

My DH gets this about houses that he describes as 'the wrong way round'. It is when a house is the opposite way round to what he is used to. Most recently, he had it in our neighbours house which is the mirror of ours. I do think he is wired a bit differently. Suffers terrible motion sickness etc.

We once viewed a house that stank. It was the most disgusting place I have ever been inside of. There was a bucket full of cat hair in the bedroom and they were trying to sell it :(

I remember the estate agent smiling at us. He knew. I reckon he was getting off on people's revulsion. YUK

My sister's house. The hairs stand up on the back of my neck the moment I enter. It feels so wrong and doesn't flow. My other sister feels the same way about it too.

Yes I get it, always a problem with the house, even things not blatantly obvious or a problem that has not been discovered or disclosed yet. These include so far:
Mould (lots of houses)
Supporting walls not pinned properly
Rotten load bearing beam
Someone had died in the house, as well as horrific domestic abuse

We once viewed a house where they had A LOT of pets and it stank, I couldn’t get out fast enough and the agent knew why we were so quick.

Yes I do! A couple of houses I've been in make me feel a bit sea sick. Not quite ill but a bit off. Like feeling funny in an elevator sort of feeling.

I get this with my neighbours house, exact same as ours except they've kept their second door in the living room which leads to the kitchen/back door (we boarded ours up) and they've swapped their box room and bathroom round. Weird as fuck being in there.

I viewed a house once that had been a location for black masses in the 1950s/60s and had a clergyman buried upside down in the garden.
We didn't buy it.

I tried explaining this to DH the other day.

That the 'feel' of the house was more important to me than anything. It could be the perfect house but if it didn't 'feel' right I wouldn't buy it.

He had no idea what I was talking about.

I just have a feel in houses of their vibe - happy, calm, sad, creepy, etc.

Ok good it’s not just me.

The common thread I’ve just realised between all the houses that have made me feel this way is that they are new builds/very modern houses that have been built to look old and cottagey iyswim. I feel sort of unstable in them, I think that’s the best way to describe it. Maybe my subconscious is sensing structural problems Grin. But actually I think I feel more ‘grounded’ and safe in old houses. That sounds so woo. I’m not woo! I’ve only ever lived in old houses, so maybe they just don’t make me feel at home and therefore disorientated??

When I bought my first flat I looked at 9 in 2 days. The one I bought was the last and I sighed when I walked in and wanted to straight to sit on the sofa - it was like being home, I didn't feel like I was visiting. I was very happy there for years! When I bought my house I only viewed 2, as not much in my price range in this area, the other I didn't feel relaxed in, this one I got the "home" feeling. I've changed every room, but the vibe is the same. Not ever felt nausea exactly, but the feel of a place is important. I always try to listen to my subconscious, it doesn't seem have an agenda beyond looking after me.

I saw one once (it was empty) that had dried stuff (flowers or herbs or something, goodness knows) tied up in little bunches and strung around the walls of most of the rooms. Then in the bathroom there was a dried brown stain along the bottom of the bath (looked like watery dried blood to me!). The carpets were absolutely filthy and the agent seemed to imply that they were not included and would cost extra! I couldn’t get out quick enough. Gave me the creeps. In fact as soon as we entered I wanted to leave but viewed it only out of politeness!

An estate agent once told me about a house that her and the rest of her team referred to as 'the piss house' because, well, it stank of piss.

She said the man who owned it was young, wasn't disabled or anything, but that he must've just pissed on the carpets all around the house. She said they'd never sell it.

Never forgotten that story. The piss house.

I get feelings about houses as soon as I walk into them. I can feel happy, sad, anxious, tired etc. even if the house is empty and being sold/let (so nobody living there).

Ive been in a couple where Ive had to leave as I had an overwhelming feeling of dread as soon as i walked in. Nice houses, clean, tidy etc. but just an awful atmosphere, like a voice in my head shouting “get out now.”

When I first viewed my current house, I walked in and sighed, as it felt like home straight away, even though it was painted corn yellow inside and smelled faintly of cat pee upstairs.

I looked at a Convent that had been converted into a house, I walked in and walked straight back out, it was the smell of incense in the woodwork.
The house I'm living now has 300 year old church doors in one of the bedrooms, I hate that room and go in there as little as possible.

I pick up some sort of atmosphere or vibe in house, towns, cities - just about everywhere really. I’ve walked into different placeS and felt scared, repulsed, happy, sad, at home despite awful decor. I’ve no idea what I’m picking up on and don’t believe in ghosts despite my user name.

We have been looking at houses for a while.

The one we are buying felt right as soon as I walked in, it needs loads of work and is completely different to what we wanted but it felt wrong.
Other houses we have viewed have made me want to leave and I have felt sick and sweaty. I can't explain it and could never live there.
There was one house that my partner loved and on paper it was perfect, but I could not put my finger on it on what was wrong he wanted to put an offer in but I said no but could not give him a reason why not. It was just a gut feeling.
Also go with your gut it's never wrong.

A house we viewed once was filthy dirty and we only stayed to look round and because the owner, an elderly chap was showing us round himself.
He apologised for the fact that the fireplaces were unmade and full of burnt out wood saying that his wife used to make up the fires and she had died.
I said "Oh, I'm sorry, did she die recently?" He replied "10 years ago!!"

I definitely get this! In my current home which I hope will be my forever home, when I first walked in, it felt right and homelike, even though the previous owner's decor was utterly not my taste.

My parents, the least woo people in the known universe, asked me to come and sense which of the three flats on a development I thought I should buy! The site was originally a workhouse, so I was dubious - but of the three, one felt warm and friendly, one made the hackles on the back of my neck stand up and one of them was just meh.

They bought the friendly one 😊

I wish I knew what causes those instincts to kick in!

I know “woo” stuff is ridiculed on here but fuck it.

Apparently when I was younger I freaked my parents out on a couple of occasions when we moved into houses.

Dad was army so no choices, quarters were fine it was when we were placed in hirings.

Place 1 - me “it’s ok but that fireplace looks very drafts” - there was no visible fireplace it had been boxed over.

Place 2 - “ I like it but the door was better over there” right enough said door had been moved

Place 3 “but it’s so sad why is it so sad?” Poltergeist moment! Estate built on a former cemetery, except they HAD moved the bodies!
