Desert Island Discs

I have a 4 hour drive coming up. Can anyone recommend their favourite desert island discs as I want to download a few to keep me going.

I would like to hear some more with women I haven't heard of who are successful. I also like a bit of drama to them. I'm not too keen on the really old episodes.

The ones I remember enjoying have been

Sheryl Sandberg
Owner of Green & Blacks (Jo something)
Alan Carr
Ian Wright
Bruno Tonioli
Emily Eavis

Any recommendations would be great!

I really recommend listening to the one with Sabrina Rachel Cohen-Hatton. She is the Chief Fire Officer of the West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and she's really interesting.

Also Melanie C (Spice Girls)

Dame Carol Black, Dave Sue Black (not to be confused - they were both excellent!) Robert Harris, Tom Hanks, Lin Manuel Miranda, Sue Perkins and Kate Atkinson were all fantastic... I’m a bit of an addict!

Sabrina Cohen-Hatton's DID was a really enjoyable one. Her story is amazing and she is really likeable.

Some favourites:

Stephen Graham
Paul Weller
Tom Hanks

And the Helen Fielding one last week was very good!

Dame Sue Black, not Dave!

Etinox · 10/07/2020 15:23

I’m not a fan of the man at all but the owner of Witherspoons was really interesting.

Rupert Everett was a good listen too.

Minty82 · 10/07/2020 16:00

Oh yes, Sandi Toksvig and Rupert Everett were both good.

Helen Mcrory was interesting the other week and I thought her luxury item was genius.

ILoveAnOwl · 10/07/2020 16:35

I second David Nott and also Bille Jean King.

Etinox · 10/07/2020 16:38

@Ulrikaka were you surprised at HM's voice? I would never have recognised it although I thought I'knew' her well.

billysboy · 10/07/2020 16:41

lee Mack

Ulrikaka · 10/07/2020 16:41

Totally agree! I did not recognise it as being her at all. I loved the way she talked about her husband and the dancing :)

Defenestratethecat · 10/07/2020 16:45

Ian Wright
John Cooper Clarke - a word genius
Judith Kerr -
James Rebanks - shepherd and writer
Pam Ayres - funny, lovely
Christine McVie - proper Rock and Roll
Sheryl Sandberg - her comment about 'go out with the bad boys but marry the geeks' or somesuch, really struck home Grin
Liz Lockhead - very touching
Marian Keyes - could listen to her for hours
Nigel Owens - I cried at this - such a lovely man.

Redhead37 · 10/07/2020 16:46

I loved Victoria Wood, Very emotional. Have listened to it more than once. Alan Carr, George Michael was brilliant. Very recent - joe wicks was interesting. I also enjoyed Isabella Tree, very interesting life story.

Defenestratethecat · 10/07/2020 16:50

And Emma Bridgewater - real highs and lows.

wherescathynow · 10/07/2020 16:52

Noel Gallagher is one of my favourites. We're roughly the same age and share a lot of experiences (apart from the famous band bit). It's brilliant x

HollowTalk · 10/07/2020 16:57

Tom Hanks
Martin Lewis
Helen Fielding
Bruce Springsteen
Elvis Costello
Nitin Sawhney
