@Spudlet
"I am not making a mask to match it, you’ll be glad to hear. "

There was an article in The Times a while back on "Why not make a mask to match your favourite dress?"

I'll tell you why not :
(1) The article suggested cutting two pieces of fabric out of said favourite dress to construct the mask from. Thus ruining favourite dress.
(2) There's a reason I like my clothes as they are. I stopped trying to dress like Hollie Hobbie when I was 7.

Your dress sounds gorgeous. Clever you, I can't sew for toffee. Hence my appalling home-made mask effort.

@Orangeblossom78

I can't relax when everyone is constantly at home day in day out. Find it stressful. I always wondered if anyone else felt the same. Mine seem to have no use to go out and see others either just talk at them on headphones over Minecraft. Sounds happy enough though. Humph
I've worked out what it is for me...

Back in the baby days, they always knew when you change the dynamic for example getting off the sofa to do a yoga DVD, and then they'd stir and cry.

It's no different now. I MN a lot because it'spretty bitesize in the face of interruptions. I can now only read if I'm completely alone or if they're in bed and DH is in imminent danger of crashing out on the sofa. He's a bugger too; the type that's snoring on the sofa then stirs when you turn off his crappy bang bang action film and says he was still watching it Hmm

So I don't rekax because and change of gear and the dynamic changes.
I'd normally have the radio in stereo around the house, but DH is working and taking lots of calls, and DS1 can be funny about it. The number of times I've put my earphones on to listen to something quietly and some one has to come and start yapping at me about pokemon, minecraft, nuclear weapons, the economy, Covid 19 or engineering. sigh

SomewhereEast · 10/07/2020 17:39

We're going to make up for our lack of going down / eating out (Grin) by going to London at the end of the month. I reckon it'll never be this quiet again. I used to live in Oxford & I bet this summer will likewise be a really nice chill time to visit. Normally you can't move for tourists in the summer.

Willow2017 · 10/07/2020 17:41
@InsaneInTheViralMembrane it’s brilliant! The sun is shining and it’s quite emotional to see the playground so full and noisy and normal again. DS has gone feral with excitement and discarded his shoes, socks and T-shirt, and is hanging from the top of the huge climbing tower, singing at the top of his voice.
Fabulous picture right there. Proper childhood unadulterated fun.

NothingIsWrong · 10/07/2020 17:42

We are off to do murdering in IKEA tomorrow :-) Reading here we come...

MaudesMum · 10/07/2020 17:45

Perky person on R4 just now explaining why we all need to lose weight because COVID - not just for our own individual good but for the Nation's Good. God knows how much weight I've put on because of lockdown, but I'm fairly sure I'm not alone - but basically its another example of how, by being kept safe from COVID, we've been made more vulnerable to COVID. Grrr.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/07/2020 17:48

To everyone saying they miss being on their own for a bit at home- me too!!

I used to feel sad on the last afternoon of the school year, knowing I would not be home alone for 6 weeks. My favourite thing to do on the first day of the new school year was to sit in slience in the house & admire the tidyness.

This time last year I had 2 DCs doing A levels & GCSEs at the same time, & thus both at home from mid-May revising, and then just bloody in the way. I felt ever so resentful.

Then the younger one started 6th form & kept coming home for lunch, just because he was allowed to. I was quite stroppy about it, poor kid.

I love them but I need some space.

BogRollBOGOF · 10/07/2020 17:53

You know those MN threads where it's adamently stated that you can't possibly be fat at size 10... I'm proving that wrong. I'm not big, but there is definitely more wobble and an early threat of roll development around the middle. I am of short and unforgiving stature.

Too little movement and too much sitting in the house.
Too much feeding a family.
Too much boredom nibbling.
Not busy enough to be distracted and nowhere near a fridge to survive 5:2 fast days.

SpnBaby1967 · 10/07/2020 17:53

Hi folks,

I dont get to post much as I'm so busy with work, DH and kids but I'm loving the thread title Grin

I have to say, I feel like I'm also letting the side down as other than a trip to IKEA we havent been out for any shopping. I REALLY want to hit Primark but cant face it just yet. DH and I are considering a restaurant this weekend though

justasking111 · 10/07/2020 17:55

Am I being a cynic, normally a Friday produces higher covid death figures than Thursday, has been like this for a couple of months. I thought it was to scare us into being good over the weekend. Not this Friday though hhmmmmm.

NothingIsWrong · 10/07/2020 17:56

@justasking111 I had the exact same thoughts! But our beloved leader would never manipulate us like that would he?

Weneedmusicandtheatre · 10/07/2020 17:57
@Weneedmusicandtheatre What do you do in theatre? I used to be in LX but have been out for a few years now.
I’m a singer so top of the list for ability to (sadly) murder everyone apparently. Not sure how we avoided infecting our audiences before Covid as apparently our superpowers mean we are now able to infect right to the back row of a theatre...

justasking111 · 10/07/2020 18:00

@NothingIsWrong Wales and England leaders certainly did it.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 10/07/2020 18:05

@BogRollBOGOF that’s just it. Bite size. I’m permanently stressed and stupid scrolling is the only thing I can handle with interruptions. I can’t work. I can’t read. I can’t listen to an audiobook or a podcast. I just seem to exist on the peripherals if small people’s mine craft worlds to order more Tesco deliveries and wash clothes.

I want my zone back.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 10/07/2020 18:09

@MaudesMum I’m just so excited and delighted someone’s finally pointed out it would be advantageous to be slimmer. Here I’ve been the last 30 years thinking it was all hunky-dory. Honestly. Next they’ll be telling us smoking and drinking Guinness in pregnancy is off. Oh the lols. 🙄 yeh cheers morality police. I’ll get right in that weight loss, I mean sure I’ve not managed it in 30 years but maybe you can weld a muzzle to my face.

Allflightscancelled · 10/07/2020 18:10

Love the thread title! I really want to hit the bookshops!
Just trying to decide if the bookshop staff are going to be all hover-y if I pick up a few to browse. I seem to remember Waterstones were going to follow people around and remove browsed books from the shelves. I don't think I could keep my cool if they did that Hmm

And I see there's talk of making masks compulsory in shops. If they do, that'll be me not making my contribution to boosting the economy

SeaOtterFluff · 10/07/2020 18:11

The BBC says Boris is debating mandatory muzzles in shops in England now. Having seen how most people wear them, I can't believe it's even worth considering. The member of staff on the door in one particular clothing shop today illustrated it perfectly - when we arrived, he had a muzzle over one ear, then he put it back on (touch 1), gave our instructions on how to behave in the shop, then wandered off, took the mask off (touch 2) to talk to the other member of staff, walked around the shop with it over his ear... repeated this at least twice while we were in there! I didn't buy anything and I won't rush back.

I'm done with this. Totally done.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/07/2020 18:25

Dementory headline on the BBC website "Mandatory face masks in England's shops considered."

Bozza has been considering it, on a Facebook Q&A. He might as well ask the man down the pub what his nan thinks and make a decision based on that.

I can feel it coming. Wear a mask if you want. Wear one in a clinical setting, even on a crowded bus. But in arsing Sainsbury's?

This has made me feel all gut-twisty & manipulated again.

RobinHobb · 10/07/2020 18:28

@BubbleIsNotAFuckingVerb

God my post was so long and ranty and sweary Blush I'll get back in my wardrobe Grin
OMG yes to this post I am supposed to be shielding etc with advanced care plan due to various issues with lungs/immune suppression. It'll probably not go well for me if I get it. I have two DC under 5. Which is irrelevant. When young healthy people are skulking around - well, your post has summed it up really.
NannyPhlegm · 10/07/2020 18:29

Am I being a cynic, normally a Friday produces higher covid death figures than Thursday, has been like this for a couple of months. I thought it was to scare us into being good over the weekend. Not this Friday though

@justasking111 Doesn't it get annoying when you can see through the manipulation? We're obviously needed out on the streets now spending our money, not staying the F at home Hmm

@Allflightscancelled I've been to Waterstones and it's totally non dementory. The only nod to dementors is that the poor checkout staff are behind such thick plastic screens, I was reminded of exhibits in Victorian freak shows.
There is nominally a tray in which you place books that you touched while browsing, but nobody was following you round or barking to actually obey that suggestion. All very nice and mild mannered.
DH was sitting on the stairs and he was told not to so that social distancing could be observed on the stairs, but it was done very mildly and politely and we weren't made to feel like pariahs at all.
Go forth to Waterstones, I say!

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 10/07/2020 18:30

We didn't make it into Waterstones last weekend - they only allowed 10 people in and there were 5 of us.

Even when a couple came out making it clear we'd be under their total capacity it seem oddly impolite to take up as one group so much of their space.

Probably just as well as going around tiger I spent money I hadn't expected to and later I did wonder if there was an element of pressure gratitude - being allowed in to look making me feel some social obligation to buy.

wanderings · 10/07/2020 18:32

he BBC says Boris is debating mandatory muzzles in shops in England now. NO NO NO NO NO NO!!! Shock If that happens, I will defy Rishi's orders, and spend significantly less.

@NannyPhlegm when a really serious disease rears its head, the population won't respond to measures as all trust in the powers above has been lost. For me, that had already happened long before February and March. Because we were promised Armageddon from the Millennium bug, death from using our mobile phones, and annihilation from weapons of mass destruction, I saw no reason to believe anything the government told us about the possibility of a killer virus. The government and the media have cried wolf so many times, they now have nothing left for when something really matters.

TheOrchidKiller · 10/07/2020 18:32

@Allflightscancelled

Our little Waterstones aren't hovering- which would not be very social distancing if they were- & there doesn't seem to be any book quarantining. They just said to apply their hand gel at the door & touch what you want.

They asked us to hold the books' bar code towards their scanner when we went to pay, but that was all. It was a nice experience.

Shame I have lost all motivation to read a proper book. Used to be a big reader. Have managed 2 since March. Sad

AnxiousElephant77 · 10/07/2020 18:33

I tried one on ds today, he’s 10. I could have sobbed. His little bloody face Sad
