The letting so many out before they let so many in to a shop thing:

Overheard the security guard at Sainsbury's telling a colleague that they weren't counting children in pushchairs & trollies in their in-store head-count. Presumably because a baby in a trolley isn't able to get out & spread its grubby mits everywhere*. I thought that was a sensible idea.

*unless the baby is the type that can lean & stretch and grab things off shelves (I had one like that, had to frisk her at the checkout).

I had the joy of a Pets At Home queue, BarkandCheese. Then the shop assistant who sold me some Frontline tried to lean in very close during the interrogation process to get my details for her i-pad to ensure I wasn't going to commit bio-destruction (which could happen, as The Cat always bolts when it's Flea Night). Which negated the queuing & number control measures.

And now I'm back to having TUI headaches.

AAAAAAARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH

TheOrchidKiller · 12/07/2020 15:34

Oh dear, Loki . What are TUI doing to you now?

You will be needing that extra kitchen roll for when there is a 10th wave and toilet roll disappears from the shops again! Be more grateful, some poor keyworker has risked their life to mess up your shopping order for you!

(I feel your pain. This is why I hate online food shopping).[/quote]
Kitchen roll is treated as seriously as bogroll in this house Grin

Lickyicelollies · 12/07/2020 15:40

Hey I'm in the hangover club too today. Had a lovely evening of gin and Thai curry takeaway with my friend.

Question for the English ADs - are any of the changing rooms open in ladies clothes shops? I like to try things on (radical as that seems) although clearly touching clothes and door handles means CERTAIN DEATH.

TheOrchidKiller · 12/07/2020 16:04

@BogRollBOGOF re kitchen roll- same here!
@Lickyicelollies have yet to find an open changing room here (England). Have tended to go to places where I've bought a similar style and size before, so I have a fair idea that it might fit or look ok.

Perhaps we should do that thing of getting changed under a towel like on the beach? I'm sure they'd like that in the middle of Next?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 12/07/2020 16:07

@TheOrchidKiller
Our hotel is not opening. We know this. Yet TUI have been stringing us along.
They told us last Monday it would be cancelled, then we got a "congrats, your holiday is going ahead" email (not sure how....our hotel is shut) on Tuesday, then were told on Weds that it still may be cancelled and we will know one way or another by Friday. We've not heard a peep.

We have now found an alternative holiday with TUI for the same price as ours, at a hotel we KNOW is open, however it looks as though TUI have scrapped the amend for free if you are travelling up to aug 31st. Everything I find suggests it ended on Friday (the date we were supposed to find out what was happening) So we just now have to sit and wait for our holiday to be cancelled. To be left high and dry.

Spent an hour on hold only to be told, it is cancelled.
I cant amend or do anything without incurring huge charges until I receive an email that was supposed to have been sent on Friday, but they didn't send it and they don't know when they are sending it.

I am stood in my dining room now and I just want to scream.

Its incredibly stressful so close to travelling as not only do we have the holiday but the longer it goes on, the more committed to airport parking, hotel and my sons holiday club for when we are at home.

Not to mention you get the stock response of "we are dealing with holidays in order of date of departure" bollocks are you, there are people travelling September/October who know more than we do.

I know I sound incredibly self indulgent but I just want to see my family 😔😔

TheOrchidKiller · 12/07/2020 16:12

You're not being self-indulgent, Loki, you've been repeatedly messed about, they've got your money for something they haven't delivered on, it's bloody stressful, and your family matters.

Scream away.

I am suitably chastised.

I just had fear some poor sod - perhaps the next order taxi was delivering to would be without their kichen paper - but it was a bit more confusing that that.

I think there going to have to stop doing the daily numbers soon - I don't think it's helping anyone at this stage.

I image Scotland and Wales would do them for a while more - not sure of NI I know they're doing better than rest of UK but national news doesn't really cover them well.

Orangeblossom78 · 12/07/2020 16:19

Argh. Just had annoying neighbour ringing about other neighbour taking dogs in the communal garden. Wants me to complain about it. I don't really mind the dogs being in the garden. Can i let her know if I have decided to complain about it. NO. She can complain herself surely. We have enough to worry about without this surely.

IAintentDead · 12/07/2020 16:21

You are totally right to be pee'd off with TUI. You and a whole load of other people. I have heard more people complaining about them than any other agent. Even RyanAir seem more on the ball than them.

TheOrchidKiller · 12/07/2020 16:26

Of course Scotland and Wales would still do the daily numbers if England stopped doing them!

" Scotland & Wales : where we respond to covid just like England only betterer and for longer than them, so ner-ner na ner-ner!"

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 12/07/2020 16:27

LivinLaVidaLoki - that sound bloody awful - I'd be worried having money tied up and plans up in the air.

Does sound like TUI has been quiet a problem for quite a few people
www.express.co.uk/travel/articles/1297973/martin-lewis-tui-holidays-cash-refund-money-saving-expert-holiday-refunds-advice - all the advice ethere seem to revolve around Friday when you should have got the e-mail.

It sound like issues with their systems - which must be bloody frustrating to get caught up in I'm not surpised you're annoyed.

Willow2017 · 12/07/2020 16:32

I suspect NS will still be lecturing us on how much she "cares" and we must stay indoors unless in hazmat suits this time next year.

Willow2017 · 12/07/2020 16:35

Btw you do not have to give your personal details to anyone in a shop or cafe etc. Were told that at work it's not something we can stop people coming for.

SomewhereEast · 12/07/2020 16:53

@BakewellTarts

We are having a great weekend. Yesterday was spent at a local statelyish home with a fab childrens playground. and when I say children they have equipment which appeals to tweens and young teens. The girls had a great day with their cousin. It wasn't cheap but worth every penny to have happy children and also lovely hearing children play and laugh like loons.

Quiet day at home today cooking and prepping for next week. Last week of primary and then the beginning of our summer progress to catch up with family in other counties.

Oh we did that too! (Castle Howard near York). It was actually so normal - house is closed & food is take away to eat outside, but with two younger DC thats our norm anyway. I was thinking of giving Harewood House a go, but they're harping on about having some kind of 'play space' where kids don't have to touch anything & I just want a normal bloody playground.

www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/coronavirus-contact-tracers-sharing-patients-data-on-whatsapp-and-facebook-rg3zqn5l6

The government’s pledge to deliver a “world-beating” contact-tracing system has been thrown into fresh doubt after it emerged that workers are sharing confidential records on social media.

Details of Covid-19 patients are being shared on Facebook and WhatsApp in breach of data protection laws as staff turn to colleagues for help to do their jobs.

Screenshots have contained the names, NHS numbers, contact details and case IDs of people who have tested positive for the virus.

“People are exchanging screenshots of the system that sometimes contain patient details in unauthorised group chats on WhatsApp and Facebook,”

On the track and trace system

Well no surprise there then! Bloody shambles. They can gtf if they think they are getting any details from me.
Jourdain11 · 12/07/2020 17:11

My friend in Scotland is totally fed up with the Chief Dementor and says she isn't going to vote SNP next year. Nicola should tread carefully, I think. A grateful nation is not falling at her feet!

Mascotte · 12/07/2020 17:16

@Jourdain11 as a pissed off Scot I'm really pleased to hear that.

Mascotte · 12/07/2020 17:17

Guess what?! I've been out to lunch, woohoo! Really lovely lunch in a beer garden. Sea bass.. I was very excited!

Jourdain11 · 12/07/2020 17:21

@Mascotte and this woman is a die-hard SNP loyalist! DH keeps muttering that he's not going to vote for Sadiq Khan, who he thinks has dementorish tendencies, but since he always votes Lib Dem anyway it is a slightly meaningless threat!

I'm feeling a bit crap, emotionally crap, this weekend. I've tried to be positive and calm and all that, but it has slightly deserted me. I had a full-blown panic attack last night (my first ever) and I just feel really wound up and anxious Sad

Jourdain11 · 12/07/2020 17:21

Oh, lovely!
Mascotte · 12/07/2020 17:26

@Jourdain11 that's even better on the SNP front!

I'm sorry you're feeling crap. Anxiety is horrible. I get beta blockers but dunno if you could.. I'd ask if there's anything they could give you for those aaaaargh! moments?

On a non medical note, the Insight Timer app has loads of free meditations, all different topics and times, and some are just reading classic children's stories which I sometimes find soothing.

justasking111 · 12/07/2020 17:27

When I went out 15 covid deaths, checked now 21 so only six up from earlier, someone forgot to add an extra 100 today then.

Had a lovely time in the garden with water pistols and two very wet grand children.

Went to co-op three men wearing face coverings ignored the one way pushed past customers to get to their beer, crisps. Aged 30s to 40s. Didn`t know a mask made them invincible, idiots. The kid teenagers on the other hands were very well behaved in the queue and the store.
