I've had a lovely morning! We went to look around Waterstones which had screens and stuff but was pretty relaxed. Then dd went to get a smoothie while I bought a newspaper. She came back and asked if I wanted to get something in the cafe she'd found. I thought it'd be all full of roolz so said no. She said there was no social distancing, no masks and no screens and no spaces between tables.

So I went in and had eggs benedict, even though I was t hungry. Gave them a big tip too, just because I like the way they're handling life😂

wanderings · 11/07/2020 12:26

@IAintentDead With the over-population thing, I bet a few well-known public figures are very secretly glad of the "cull", but of course they're not going to say it, if they have any sense. Didn't Prince Philip say some years ago "I would like to be reincarnated as a deadly virus, to do something about over-population"?

@Allflightscancelled I'll be tipping any café which is relaxed like that, and I don't tip very often.

With the foil-wrapped potato, I hope nobody is microwaving it while wrapped in foil! Years ago I heard a radio serial of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Charlie said "my boiled potato had nine candles in it".

I’m sitting in the hairdressers with a mask on trying to read my book as well as looking at MN. Bloody thing keeps riding up and covering my eyes so I keep pulling it down which I don’t think is the point.

If they bring these in for all shops that’s it for me - I’ll stick to online. I’m not browsing round feeling muzzled.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 11/07/2020 12:35

Good luck, Minesa. My hairdresser is asking everyone to wear masks, so I did because I really needed a haircut, but it was an absolutely foul experience: the hair got in the mask when she was cutting the front. I’m not going back till I can have it done without the mask.

KaronAVyrus · 11/07/2020 12:40

I’ve decided I’m not going to go to the hairdressers until the rules are relaxed a bit.
It should feel enjoyable and relaxing not some quasi medical setting and it’s £75 a pop plus they are charging £10 extra for PPE.
Hopefully it will have calmed down a touch by December.

MrsSpenserGregson · 11/07/2020 12:52

An extra £10 for PPE?????????

£10 per person per visit?

It cannot possibly, possibly cost the salon that much per person. That is insane Shock

KaronAVyrus · 11/07/2020 12:55

I know. I feel bad as they are a lovely bunch of women and I generally go every 5-6 weeks but I go because I enjoy it.
Anyway, I’ve dyed my hair now and I think it looks pretty good also I’ve got the sort of style that can go months without needing a trim.

Newgirls · 11/07/2020 13:25

My hairdresser is wearing a mask not they say we don’t have to. It’s v small salon so only 2 customers allowed at a time. Same costs but no mags or drinks which I hope saves them a bit of money to offset cost of their masks

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 11/07/2020 13:28

My neighbour is a barber and is keeping her normal prices -but she will sell a mask for £1 if the customer doesn’t have one. She’s spent hundreds, but it’s all tax deductible should she make the tax threshold with reduced numbers...
she says everyone else in town is bumping up £5 a cut but she doesn’t want to piss off her loyal customers.

Alsohuman · 11/07/2020 13:31

Mine’s not charging extra for PPE which actually worries me a bit as to whether they’re taking adequate precautions. The hairdresser will wear a visor, I have to wear a mask. I’m going on Monday but I wouldn’t bother if my hair wasn’t such a mess.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/07/2020 13:32

I have had a lovely day so far staying in! But this is because DH and the boys have gone out.

I have done some yoga online with Adriene (relaxing) been for a walk, made myself a sandwich (just for me) and had a little nap.

I now realise why I miss the school so much.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/07/2020 13:44

I've booked tickets for Castle Howard tomorrow. So excited! Considering upgrading to an annual pass while we're there. Mostly because BOTH playgrounds are open!! So very excited. Going to take a picnic but also buy coffees and stuff. Anywhere that's opening up stuff for kids to do gets my money at the moment.

MagdaS · 11/07/2020 13:45

I’ve booked a haircut for a week on Friday. I’m not having it coloured yet, I want her advice on what I do with my purple - whether she dyes it out, or whether I let it wash out and then she dyes it.

Mask is required, unfortunately, so I’ve ordered a couple from Etsy. Still not going to wear one round the shops.

I saw a nauseating post on Twitter of muzzled up children ready for public transport. Fine, they are required, but it was so unbelievably smug and virtue signalling.

hope you are wearing gloves too.

DH has just come back from the barbers. Looks like I'll not be able to get ds1's done for a while because they're saying they're only allowed one person inside at a time and given that he can't speak to them and I can't stand outside for however long it takes (I need to be moving or my blood pressure drops) it's not going to to work.

justasking111 · 11/07/2020 13:51

FHS if you have saved three months costs then just go to the bloody hairdresser. Mine has suffered enough in this lockdown. She has a daughter who needs a mummy who can earn. We are not supposed to come out of this quids in.

I started going for the grey look two years ago, with longish hair it is not easy. This lockdown has decided me, will go cold turkey on colour just go for fab cutting from now on.

Find someone else they are being arsy.
BogRollBOGOF · 11/07/2020 13:52

We go to a house around the corner where she has a mini salon in the house. I'm hoping that makes a difference for mask wearing, plus we have a DC each who are in the same class.

I'm OK with a MN cut and the DSs have longer shaggy cuts that I can do passably myself so we're not desperate for a professional.

Been out running along the river for the first time since probably February. I had an injury in March anyway. I was avoiding it for some time because it was busy when there were few options for getting out and SDing would have been stressy. It was nice to have a change of scenery and there was a pleasant number of people out. I'd like to say that my muscles appreciated a flatter route, but they're ungrateful bastards that just keep whinging that they miss the osteopath. Grin

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/07/2020 13:54

Just checked the rules at my hairdressers. I'll have to wear full PPE and pay £6 for the privilege. No ta! Will wait a little longer in the hope of a relaxing of the rules or find a different hairdresser.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/07/2020 13:57

That would assume that the client hasn't had a loss of earnings as well. Not everyone on here has been on full pay the whole time.

That’s all well and good but I’m on Furlough and DH hadn’t earned any money for 4 months now. I’m definitely not quids in during lockdown.
SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 11/07/2020 14:05

Exactly, KaronA, it's not as simple as 'you've saved three months'. My DH is still furloughed and I'm a SAHM. We were coping fine while we were unable to go anywhere or spend anything, but now that we are starting to go out again money is getting tighter.

(Not sure if you realised I was quoting a previous poster)

Allflightscancelled · 11/07/2020 14:06

We're not quids in either. In fact we are many thousands of quids out!

PinkFondantFancy · 11/07/2020 14:06

@ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson bleugh hair dropping into mask Envy (not envy) I think that would freak me out!! Not a chance you'll find me in a salon until some of these rules get relaxed. I only go a couple of times a year normally anyway but it's my ringfenced relaxation time with coffee and a magazine. There's months long waiting lists around here anyway so it's a moot point

Allflightscancelled · 11/07/2020 14:09

It's. it just haircuts that are more expensive. Waterstones books all seemed to be full price. I don't blame them I know it's been tough but it does stop people shopping.

I'm getting a haircut next weekend. First in 5 months. I'm going to be going less often though, if we have to pay extra for masks and shit. I haven't been pre-warned but I wouldnt be surprised
