Just saw this. How sad is this?

You can always rely on the grammar police on MN.

Hmm

I saw that video too, just a bit wary that the area is crawling with Police using drones and choppers, but no one else saw it. I think it's probably a hoax.

Heismyopendoor · 12/07/2020 09:59

@PenelopePitstop49 who checked you on your grammar?

TheVanguardSix · 12/07/2020 10:24

It's so sad. I know that lake. It's one of the three local lakes in the area I'm from (my mum still lives up there): Castaic, Piru, and a little further Casitas. Piru is a windy, choppy, scary lake. Personally, I don't know why they rent those boats and encourage people to go out in waters you're not even allowed to swim in. They've had several drownings in Lake Piru. She grew up right there, in the same town my uncle used to live in. So she knew the lake, I imagine. I know of the lake but I'd be way too scared to go out there. Piru's got a reputation. Still, lots of people do rent boats on Piru and enjoy uneventful trips. But it's so easy to get into trouble in those choppy waters. The wind comes out of nowhere on Lake Piru. The currents are messy too. It's terrifying and terribly sad.

Ah sorry @2155User It was a library book from a while ago so I can’t remember the name.

Interesting. She would've known this, living there as a child, so I just can't understand why she went swimming there with just her and her DC. Well I can but it's too horrible to think about, poor little boy.

I’ve been following this, it just breaks my heart.

Based on the fact that her son said she jumped in and didn’t come back,
I sort of hope that she dived in, hit her head on the trees under the water and never resurfaced.

The alternative that she got into difficulty and had that moment of realisation that this was bad and she was about to leave her son alone just makes me cry with the thought of how awful that would be.

As for why she would even go in, people get complacent, she’s apparently gone there for years. Nothing bad ever happened before so why would it this time? The lake is said to have deep pockets of very cold water and currents. It’s easy for that to change quickly.

We’re on the Devon coast at the moment, there are lots of families out on paddle boards and kayaks.
All of the children have life jackets on but none of the parents do.
The sea is absolutely freezing, if they fall in they’ll be in trouble pretty quickly but clearly none of the adults thing they are risking their life by going out without a jacket on when they could so easily be about to leave their child alone in the sea

I've been looking on twitter and the police dept looking for her are getting so much abuse from who I can only assume are teenage fans.

I understand people get frustrated but it's really appalling - they are actually calling the department with news from psychics.

An acquaintance of mine drowned in a river some years ago. The search was stood down after about a week and their body naturally dislodged and floated to the surface 5 weeks later, not far at all from where they fell in. I think that could be the case this time (though I hope not) as I've read that there are actual trees lining the bottom of the lake, and visibility is extremely poor.

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 13/07/2020 17:59

They've found a body.

Needtobepositive · 13/07/2020 18:58

So sad. I keep checking for updates. Was hoping she would miraculously have survived.

LinManWellWellWell · 13/07/2020 22:25

So sad to see that her body has been found - although hopefully this will bring some answers and closure for the family. Haven’t watched Glee for years but I’ve found this story really upsetting. Such a lot of tragedy from one group of smiley happy dancy people.

Blossom0120 · 13/07/2020 22:51

I watched the Sheriff's press conference. It really does just sound like a terribly tragic accident. I just feel so sad for them all, especially Naya and her little boy Sad

catscatscatseverywhere · 13/07/2020 23:04

I knew she could not be alive, but still, I am shocked. She was so young. Can't believe 3rd member of Glee cast is gone. Rest In Peace, Naya.

AngeloMysterioso · 14/07/2020 04:45

Apparently she and her son both got in, and she managed to get him back onto the boat before she went under. Its just heartbreaking.

When they made the tribute episode of Glee for Cory Monteith she sang the most beautiful cover of If I Die Young. It’s even more poignant now.

Belledan1 · 14/07/2020 06:12

It is so sad. The news was so sad yesterday with this, the death of Elvis's grandson, John Travolta's wife and the young you tube star and her baby that died . All so young.

I listened to it yesterday. I would never ever think she will sing it for herself. Gosh. Life is so unpredictable.

Cory Monteith's mum has released this tribute to Naya. It's beautiful. I just can't imagine how heartbroken those that knew both Naya and Cory are. Sad

For the last 7 years the 13th of July has shattered our hearts beyond repair. There aren't enough words to describe the pain we are feeling, we are truly heartbroken at the loss of @nayarivera.
^'Naya, Cory loved you so so much. He cherished your friendship more than you will ever know. From the laughs you shared, to the strength you gave him when he needed it the most. Cory truly adored you.
'He was in awe of your incredible talent, the way you gave everything you had to each performance; the slap in the auditorium was one of his favourite stories to share. You once said Cory was like a member of your family; you will always be a part of ours. We'll carry you in our hearts forever. We miss you. Friends reunited for eternity. We send all our love and strength to your beautiful boy, your family, friends and fans.^
