I’ve been following this, it just breaks my heart.
Based on the fact that her son said she jumped in and didn’t come back,
I sort of hope that she dived in, hit her head on the trees under the water and never resurfaced.
The alternative that she got into difficulty and had that moment of realisation that this was bad and she was about to leave her son alone just makes me cry with the thought of how awful that would be.
As for why she would even go in, people get complacent, she’s apparently gone there for years. Nothing bad ever happened before so why would it this time? The lake is said to have deep pockets of very cold water and currents. It’s easy for that to change quickly.
We’re on the Devon coast at the moment, there are lots of families out on paddle boards and kayaks.
All of the children have life jackets on but none of the parents do.
The sea is absolutely freezing, if they fall in they’ll be in trouble pretty quickly but clearly none of the adults thing they are risking their life by going out without a jacket on when they could so easily be about to leave their child alone in the sea
