Just letting you know that we've removed a few posts from this thread. As many of you have said, it doesn't feel right to allow speculation about this very sad incident.

PatchworkElmer · 09/07/2020 17:17

I saw this earlier. Absolutely horrendous, that poor little boy 😔

AnneOfQueenSables · 09/07/2020 20:12

What an awful accident. Apparently she grew up near there so she probably thought she knew the lake well enough to be safe.
It's so lucky that her DS stayed on the boat and fell asleep.

FlowerTink · 09/07/2020 22:18

I keep checking for news of her. I read her boy is safe and being looked after by family.

Buttybach · 10/07/2020 00:40

They have said it's being treated as a recovery mission now.
It's so sad all round.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 10/07/2020 04:42

Just awful. Poor Naya. Her poor son.
The show does seem cursed. I know the men who played Finn and Puck have both died and I think the partner of one of the main cast (Kitty) died in a horrible way too IIRC

FlyRobinFly · 10/07/2020 07:58

I imagine the little boy is with his father, they had shared custody

Psychoseverywhere · 10/07/2020 08:10

One of them killed himself because he was facing charges of having child pornography pictures in his home so i count him as someone not cursed but taking the east way out. The other had substance abuse issues. Again not a curse.

So awful for this womans family and her poor baby :(

Psychoseverywhere · 10/07/2020 08:10

Easy not east!

BankofNook · 10/07/2020 11:33

Referring to the tragedies and scandals related to the Glee cast and crew as a curse is really disrespectful. It implies there was no free will involved in the choices that led to those events and that some sort of high power at play. Workplaces the world over have employees who are abusers, who have health problems, who die in accidents, who take their own lives, who break the law, who have addictions. Glee was a workplace. A family are currently grieving due to a tragic accident, they don't need people calling it a curse as if their loved one was somehow fated to die.

child pornography pictures

Pornography is sexual acts carried out between consenting adults and legally distributed to other consenting adults (for the most part without getting into discussions about trafficking and coercion). Children cannot consent to sex, it is not pornography. They're images of child sex abuse. Sorry to sound scolding but the phrase "child pornography" really gets my hackles up and really is one of those issues where language matters, the name "pornography" normalises it and it should never be given even a shred of normalisation.

We were on a boat on a lake designed for swimming off with 3 of us in the water when a freak gust of wind blew the boat a surprising distance.

Luckily the adult left on board was able to get back to the swimmers quite quickly but it gave us all a fright.

If it had happened with only a small dc in the boat you may not have been able to catch up with the boat, but not want to swim for shore and leave the dc.

Awful.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 10/07/2020 11:51

That poor little boy. He must've been so scared.

catbellz · 10/07/2020 11:51

The daily mail are utter twats! This is the "angle" they've chosen to take on this horrible tragedy.

Typical DM. They hit the bottom and try to break through it now.
narrowboatgirl · 10/07/2020 20:15

Well said BankofNook

Pleasebeaflesbite · 10/07/2020 20:22

On a side note has anyone read a book called The Survivors Club? It talks about people who have survived natural disasters, terror attacks and such things, and talks about despite being ordinary people with no training, the qualities they have in common which allow them to think logically where others would panic and survive. A fascinating book

I’ve not read that but but I have read a book which similarly covered the personality qualities of people who survive disasters compare to’ normal’ people who are more like sitting ducks unable to take any action.

Probably not the place on this thread but it would be an interesting thread to start as it was quite an interesting read.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 11/07/2020 22:00

There’s a video circulating of a person stuck on some rocks near the water but I don’t know if it’s fake.

rayoflightboy · 11/07/2020 22:03

Theres a picture of her mother at the side of the lake. Its so sad looking.

I hope they find her soon.

2155User · 11/07/2020 22:09

@Pleasebeaflesbite

Could you possibly share the book title? I like the sound of that

PenelopePitstop49 · 11/07/2020 22:14

I don't think Glee was cursed.

Cory Monteith was a drug addict, not long out of rehab who died from an overdose. Mark Salling had been arrested for having child pornography and chose to end his life. Both were conscious actions, not acts of will.

Naya Rivera was on a remote lake on a boat alone with a small child. Not something I'd have chosen to do. An awful accident, yes, maybe intentional, who knows. But not a result of a curse.

Heismyopendoor · 11/07/2020 22:29

@PenelopePitstop49 there is no such thing as child pornography as has been pointed out a few posts above yours.

ThisIsGonnaHurt · 11/07/2020 23:11

Actually as much as its a horrible sounding phrase it us actually used in court by judges to describe the charge. Its awful but may explain why it's widely used still

Psychoseverywhere · 11/07/2020 23:33

Its used in relation to charges against these sickos so where I am 100% aware of the difference I was using the terminolgy from all the papers etc its been mentioned in. Ibaas pointing out as was another poster that the show is not cursed it just has had troubled people in it.

Any word on Naya yet? I can find nothing online.

Blossom513 · 11/07/2020 23:39

@YesIDoLoveCrisps

There’s a video circulating of a person stuck on some rocks near the water but I don’t know if it’s fake.

I've just had a look and read the comments. I think the footage is real and the concern is genuine but it's not clear enough to tell if it's actually a person. I saw in the comments they have been able to report it to the sheriff so it will at least get investigated.

This whole situation is just incredibly sad. I really hope they find her.
