Yawn. Washing Machine Miele or Bosch?

Hi our 8 year old Bosch has just died and I am looking at be machines. The Bosch has been fine apart from very noisy and excess soap suds in the wash after it had finished. My preference would be a machine with metal paddles on the drum as opposed to plastic as I have has issues with these in the past on other machines. I notice now very few Bosch have metal paddles. Any advice? Thanks

I bought a Siemens (the same company as Bosch) to replace my old ones of the same make. It's my third, first lasted 19yrs, and second 12yrs (but was second hand). Very pleased with it, it has plastic paddles, as did the old one, no issues with them. I had a Beko which was a bag of shite and lasted 18mths.

Manyoaks · 08/07/2020 12:27

Thank you I didn't know that about Siemens. I will have a look. Our first Hotpoint at plastic paddles and the clothes used to get caught and rip in them. We must have changed about 5 sets so it puts me off. However this does exclude lots of machines I could be looking at

We got a new one recently. The guy in the shop said that Bosch used to be good when all made in Germany. Now most of them are made elsewhere the quality has really declined. We were advised the Miele or AEG were now the best. We went with AEG and its great, can't fault it.

FraughtwithGin · 08/07/2020 13:41

Miele, but I live in Germany.

Manyoaks · 08/07/2020 13:53

Will avoid AEG as we have a new AEG fridge freezer and it is just awful. Probably nothing to do with their washing machines but it has put me off. Thanks for the advice though Miele is looking favourite at the moment

Had all sorts of issues with our Miele machine to the point where i had to write an email to the UK CEO and quote consumer rights legislation. Issue got sorted somewhat but long story short the end result was our 3 year old machine got taken away and we'd bought an identical machine for the same price. 2 years on and it's not had problems.

From reading online i think my case is an outlier though

Literallynoidea · 08/07/2020 13:59

My Miele runs all day everyday in my kitchen and doesn't make a sound.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 08/07/2020 14:02

Depends - Miele if you are working from home and don't like a loud machine Smile

DoorstoManual · 08/07/2020 14:06

Miele

We moved house twenty years ago, the washing machine and the tumble drier objected to the lack of consultation and promptly stopped working, followed closely by the TV. Grin

Point being, we bought Miele (though at the time we could ill afford it) both have no been running for twenty years without any trouble at all.

So Miele everytime.

bilbodog · 08/07/2020 14:18

Miele every time.

Manyoaks · 08/07/2020 14:23

Noise is a factor as we have a snug off the kitchen and currently have to pause the TV if the washing machine or kettle are on. Gosh Cruddles did you stick with Miele? Enough to put you off I am sure

Our miele has just broken after 10 years, had hoped it would have lasted longer given their claims. Be aware if you run out of warranty and it breaks, Miele charge a lot to come and look at it and it's very hard to find a local repairer (well it is here anyway!).

I wanted a longer warranty so have just bought a Samsung with a 5 year warranty. The only Miele machines I could afford have 2.

SimonJT · 08/07/2020 14:36

I have a miele, its a good machine and quiet, I have the one that doses detergent and softener for you, perfect for us lazy people.

Yellowbutterfly1 · 08/07/2020 14:39

I definitely recommend Siemens, for some reason it often seems to be forgotten about.

DoIneed1 · 08/07/2020 14:43

Definitely not Bosch. I am on the second replacement of a machine bought in April 17. Replaced by Bosch each time free of charge, but a complete hassle.

BikeRunSki · 08/07/2020 14:46

We’ve had 2 Bosch washing machines, that both lasted 10 years of constant hammer. Muddy mountain biking and building site kit several times a week; 6 years of cloth nappies (3 years each as it happened), spirts kit most days. Got a third Bosch about 6 months ago. We considered Miele, but it was 4 times the price and we couldn’t manage that at the time.

I have just checked the new washing machine. It has plastic paddles.

2 years warranty had finished, we paid out of our pocket for experts to come and look at it, make repairs that didn't seem to work etc etc, it was finally diagnosed as being dead. This is a 3 year old machine. After contacting CEO got offered a like for like machine at a 70% off, so the option was a cheap new Miele machine + repair costs already spent, or a non Miele new machine at 100% cost + repair costs.

This one has had no issues after 2 years so hopefully our previous experience was a one off

Beemail1 · 08/07/2020 14:53

Had our Miele for 20 years. No problems at all in that time

TwistedSisters · 08/07/2020 14:54

Miele. Mine still going strong after 5 years, haven't had one issue, and it's used every day.

I also agree with a pp about Bosch not being as good as they used to be...my Mum had no end of problems with her new one.

HavingAMoan · 08/07/2020 14:57

We’ve got a Bosch washing machine and it’s perfectly fine. It does the job.

HPLikecraft · 08/07/2020 15:00

Only came on to say what PPs already have: Bosch used to be good; now it isn't.

I replaced mine with a grundig. It's ok and has 5 year warranty.

Manyoaks · 08/07/2020 15:03

Thank you everyone this really does help. Hadn't thought about local engineers if there was a issue with a Miele.

Miele, mine came with extended warranty from John Lewis. It's my second Miele washer ( last one was a washer drier as I was living in a small flat at the time) and it's brilliant. Would get Miele everything if I could afford it. Having said that, dishwasher is Bosch and is really good.

DianasLasso · 08/07/2020 15:04

Another one in the "Bosch used to be good, now they're not" camp. I had a Bosch in my old flat which was brilliant, but the newer one not so much. I now have a Miele which I absolutely love, and as PP have said, it's incredibly quiet. And economical - pretty much everything goes through the 30 minute short programme and comes out fine.

ChinUpChestOut · 08/07/2020 15:11

I'm a Bosch fan - had my old Bosch washing machine for 13 years and have just replaced it. New Bosch is super quiet (one of the criteria for the replacement machine) and cheaper than the Miele.

I think they're both good, but I couldn't justify the price of the Miele. It also seemed to have extra whistles and bells that I just wouldn't use.
