Yawn. Washing Machine Miele or Bosch?

Manyoaks · 08/07/2020 11:02

Hi our 8 year old Bosch has just died and I am looking at be machines. The Bosch has been fine apart from very noisy and excess soap suds in the wash after it had finished. My preference would be a machine with metal paddles on the drum as opposed to plastic as I have has issues with these in the past on other machines. I notice now very few Bosch have metal paddles. Any advice? Thanks

Miele, I love mine! It's six years old and my toddler recently discovered it has an "add clothes" function for that sock I inevitably miss.

Copes very well with rural life!

TheNoodlesIncident · 08/07/2020 15:16

Our Miele washing machine hasn't given us any trouble.

Neither have the Miele tumble drier or the Miele fridge freezer...

We've had the washing machine a few years now, we bought the basic model but it seems well-built. I have to set an alarm for when its wash cycle is finished, as I don't notice when it's stopped. It's not utterly silent, but the noise is unobtrusive. Happy with it.

(It replaced a Hoover washing machine which lasted about 11/12 years although it wasn't the heavy use a family machine gets, so maybe not a fair comparison.)

Haven’t got a Miele washer but my Miele dryer is the best purchase ever. Brilliant brand - last for ages, worth every penny

CallarMorvern · 08/07/2020 15:27

The guy in the shop said that Bosch used to be good when all made in Germany. Now most of them are made elsewhere
My Siemens washer is made in Germany. My Mum was told that the economy end of Bosch weren't made in Germany but the rest were 🤷. We also have a Siemens dishwasher that is getting on a bit now, but it is still fine.
AEG has been rubbish since they were bought out by Electrolux. We have a fancy pants AEG cooker hood that has been replaced 3x under warranty and it is still faulty, our AEG oven is dreadful and the AEG hob isn't much better.

moonbells · 08/07/2020 15:27

We have Siemens/Bosch fridge freezer (22yo now) Siemens Washer lasted 18y, now have Bosch washer-dryer, Bosch Dishwasher #3 as #2 obviously conferred with the Siemens Washer and died the same week.

4y on they are both still happily going.

Having said that, I have a couple of Miele vacuums and they are fab. And so is their customer service (Courier 'lost' the order, and they managed to find me a replacement with no quibbles).

Emeraldshamrock · 08/07/2020 15:33

Neither. I'm in love with my new Samsung washing machine.

MondeoFan · 08/07/2020 15:34

I had a Siemens lasted 13 years it was a brilliant machine , someone then gave me a Beko it was awful had it 2 years. Now have Samsung Addwash, so far so good, plays a little tune at the end of the wash to let you know it's finished.

ArfArfBarf · 08/07/2020 15:35

We have an AEG washer and a Bosch drier. I don’t live in the U.K. but Bosch repaired my drier in warranty when I did something really stupid and broke it. Totally my fault but they didn’t charge me anything so I would definitely recommend.

moolaalaa · 08/07/2020 15:35

I would go for Bosch. They are at least 2time cheaper than the equivalent Miele. I am not convinved a Miele would last on average 2 times longer to make it worthwhile. A washing machine is basically a motor, slab of cement and a few valves so much of the additional money is going on the name.

ArfArfBarf · 08/07/2020 15:36

We have a Hoover one in our house in the U.K. and it is crap.

SeasonFinale · 08/07/2020 15:37

I was once told by our washing machine engineer when I asked him for a recommendation always go for the best Miele you ca afford. I took his advice and sadly for him I haven't needed to use him since Grin

joyjester · 08/07/2020 15:37

What about a British one. Ebac?

CallarMorvern · 08/07/2020 15:39

Just as a wild card...We looked at Ebac washing machines, they are made in the UK and are supposed to be very reliable. Our location wasn't covered by their warranty, so not useful for us. Some of their machines have hot&cold fill which would have worked well with solar.

I've never been able to afford Miele, but forgot that we have a 15yr old Miele hoover, it has been used and abused over 3 house renovations, but is still going strong (with the help of a bit of duct tape!).

CallarMorvern · 08/07/2020 15:40

Lol Joyjester...great minds😆

DannyGlickWindowTapping · 08/07/2020 15:43

It depends.... I have just replaced mine, and deliberately didn't go for a top of the range / lasts 20 years one, as technology is changing and making water / detergent use more efficient. My old (12 years) one simply didn't give a good wash anymore, although it worked as designed. My new one has sensors and uses as little water and detergent as possible, reduces time / electricity etc per wash. In 8-10 years, I hope this will be further reduced.

OchonAgusOchonO · 08/07/2020 15:44

Had a great bosch that lasted 18 years. When we went to replace, I was told the same as apps re the quality having deteriorated. Replaced it with a Samsung. Only lasted about 4 years. Replaced it with a Miele last year. So far, so good.

Nonestopcaberet · 08/07/2020 15:47

Our Miele died last year. He was 11. Absolute star, couldn’t fault him.
Unfortunately the price has gone up a lot since we bought him, and we couldn’t justify spending so much on his replacement, so have gone for a ‘cheap’ one. If it lasts two years or more, we will be happy, if not, we will be back to Miele for sure.

GlamGiraffe · 08/07/2020 15:52

I've got a siemens. I've had it for 10 years so far, I do on average 10 loads every week, apart from my cleaner breaking the door handle (which was entirely her fault) there have been no problems (door was easily repaired). There are lot of different ranges of machines. I have an IQ 500.

Emeraldshamrock · 08/07/2020 15:53

DP works in electrical retail bosch or miele are not made like they use to be. Whatever you buy make sure you buy insurance my Zanussi died after 3 years I got the €400 in credit from the insurance so I added the balance for the Samsung, I got a 5 year warranty with the Samsung.

joyjester · 08/07/2020 15:57

@CallarMorvern

Lol Joyjester...great minds😆
When mine needs replacing this is what I will be getting hopefully!
mbosnz · 08/07/2020 16:02

Neither. I'm in love with my new Samsung washing machine.

Me too! It holds so much, it's so quiet, and it's fabulous with the stackable dryer on top.

I used to have Bosch. They didn't seem to last very long.

Manyoaks · 08/07/2020 16:39

Ohh Ebac is a wildcard.

thegcatsmother · 08/07/2020 17:17

I have an AEG, but it is about 10 years old. It has survived two moves in Belgium, where it lived in the cellar in two houses, and in the utility room in one, and it is now back in the UK, in the utility room.

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 08/07/2020 17:27

Bosch are the same group as Neff & Siemens but the junior brand.

Miele very good with long warranties. Tested for equivalent of 20 years. Siemens & AEG good too (AEG also make John Lewis own brand).

Another often overlooked option is Samsung, despite also having long warranties. Their twin drive drum is worth a look.

Kittywampus · 08/07/2020 18:45

Jumping on your thread because my washing machine also broke today. Old one was a Bosch and was at least 10 years old (it was in the house when we moved in). I'm glad I saw the Bosch comments because I probably would have bought another Bosch. I think I'll get one from John Lewis for the warranty.
