Finally I have the prospect of an actual bedroom with a bed! I'm ridiculously excited, it's been years of sleeping on a rickety old sofa bed and my back is feeling it hard.

I promised myself that Shen the time came I would buy the best bed ever. Something luxurious that I would enjoy being in.

I'm overwhelmed with choice, I love Sleigh style, heavy wooden frames, I also like the idea of a four poster but that might be a childhood dream.

Also king size, is it really better than a double? I like space to sleep so I'm thinking yes but I've never had anything other than a small double.

If you plan to share your bed with other humans (and/or animals) definitely get the biggest bed your space and budget will allow.

Sleigh beds look lovely but it’s a pain to change the sheets....

We recently bought the Brimnes king size bed with the storage headboard from Ikea. I appreciate it’s not a sleigh bed but it’s amazing!

It fits us and the DC in (when they climb in!).

I have a super king Sienna from feather & black. Omg it's a beautiful French style and i love it! Have an Emma mattress too, would also recommend

We have a king size TV bed from
Bensons with a iGel Platinum mattress and it's the most wonderful, comfortable, convenient thing ever. You just melt into it and it keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter.

King is amazing. Always better to have more room! It has surround sound speakers too. It's the business!

IceniSky · 07/07/2020 19:36

We have a solid wood, hand made, super king sleigh from Revival Beds. I love it.

StripeyDeckchair · 07/07/2020 19:38

Bought a new mattress in Jan. I cannot believe how much difference it made to the quality and amount of sleep I got.
Spent ages in john Lewis trying before we bought (2 or 3 visits).
King size bed, Victorian style brass bed with head and foot board. High, which I like. Always buy the best you can afford that suits you - I was prepared to pay more but we bought the mattress that suited us.

NotMeNoNo · 07/07/2020 19:40

Wooden frame (Get Laid beds) and Premier Inn Hypnos mattress, king size. Couldn't see the need to spend more. DH often stays in Premier Inn for work so it was a safe bet.

whichteaareyou · 07/07/2020 19:49

The Jóelle bed from Loaf is what I'm eyeing up atm!

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 07/07/2020 19:56

It's amazing. It's so amazing I sleep in it every night!
I know, I know, I know ... but it's that amazing that's what I HAVE to do!

AgnesNaismith · 07/07/2020 20:01

I had a four poster for around 6 months before getting rid of it - unless your bedroom has lots of light and high ceilings I’m not sure it works. Mine got really dusty and was a complete pain to keep clean.

I now have a huuuge super-king sized french style bed, it’s beautiful (I would get a bigger one if space and money allowed)! As important as a mattress is a good duvet, pillows and linen. M&S actually have some lovely cotton linen which is not v expensive!

TimeWastingButFun · 07/07/2020 20:02

Ours is a king size mahogany sleigh bed and we just bought a new mattress which is quite firm but has a memory foam layer on the top. Bliss! It's not a problem to change the bedding. I just tuck the duvet at the bottom

TimeWastingButFun · 07/07/2020 20:04

Ps if you're going to share it with anyone don't get a double. Far too small! We slept in our double spare bed when we painted our bedroom and it was really not big enough for two and we're averagely sized.

TimeWastingButFun · 07/07/2020 20:05

I wouldn't like a four poster because spiders...

WildRosie · 07/07/2020 20:05

I've had my bed for nearly eighteen years. I'm only on my second mattress (from Ikea) but the first one lasted years. Sadly, it's probably not that amazing coz I'm the only one who's slept in it!
BTW, it's an antique finish pine king size from Argos. Took me nearly a day to build it.

LokisLover · 07/07/2020 20:07

I have a super king sized bed and it’s the best thing I ever bought. I got it from made, mattress from John Lewis that wasn’t cheap but completely worth it and British made.

xanthippe8 · 07/07/2020 20:07

I've had a sleigh bed in the past, as a pp said, it's a pain to change the sheets. I prefer a divan now for extra storage space. Treated myself to a new one a couple of years ago and went for a pillow top...soo comfy, warm in winter and cool in summer, people say spend as much as possible, I'd be wary about that, some 'luxury' brands aren't all they're cracked up to be.

We have this in turquoise with a memory foam mattress. It's so so comfy.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 07/07/2020 20:10

I have a super king bed, solid wood, which we've had for about 30 years.

What made the difference was spending about £1500 on a mattress - which I thought was insane. Then my sister said you'd spend it on a car. You spend 8 hours out of every 24 in bed and suddenly it was a no-brainer. I've never regretted it.

Thelnebriati · 07/07/2020 20:11

King sized is worth it if you have the space. When its hot there's always a cool bit of bed. If not then get a double with a king sized duvet.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 07/07/2020 20:11

Will be me and DH so will get as big as possible for the space.

I think a four poster is just something I assumed was super glamorous when I was a kid so it's not something I've seriously considered.

DH isn't bothered what we get, he's leaving it to me to decide, I have a chronic pain condition and not having a bed to be able to rest in has been hellish.

These posts have been really helpful, thanks.

Vi-Spring mattress... I slept on one in a an amazing B&B about 15 years ago and then bought one... and it was amazing.

However, last year we decided to get a Super-King and bought a new mattress which was cheaper (but not much!) . It was a terrible mistake as it is just nowhere near as good quality but can't now justify buying another one.

As soon as this one dies (or has an 'accident') I will go back to Vi-Spring.

nervousnellyisnervous · 07/07/2020 20:12

Get a king, you won't regret it.

Also, we just got an Emma Mattress and love it. Very comfortable!

Namechangex10000 · 07/07/2020 20:12

I would never buy a sleigh bed again. Or a memory foam mattress. Hate them both with a passion

Namechangex10000 · 07/07/2020 20:13

On American films their beds always look absolutely bloody huge!!!!!

justanotherone123 · 07/07/2020 20:14

Definitely king size even for one person.

I bought my recent bed from wayfair. Cheap but very comfortable. This was the second bed I'd purchased from them. The first was terrible and I received a refund to buy the second.

More importantly is a good mattress. Spend more on one of these.
