Do you thank delivery drivers?

I always do but often get met with a confused look as they walk away, like it doesn’t happen normally.

Just now, knock on door, parcel on step and can over drive, I call out “thank you” and get “oh, erm you’re welcome” back!
Am I the only one?

I'm on first names with mine small northern village wouldn't dream of not saying thankyou. Will happily offer use of the loo and a drink if it's hot. It's a very divided subject on here Grin

CremeEggThief · 07/07/2020 16:01

Of course.

Redhair23 · 07/07/2020 16:02

I do plus I wave them off- they probably think I am bonkers but I bet there are some right miseries that they have to deal with too.

vodkaredbullgirl · 07/07/2020 16:04

always

jackdaw141 · 07/07/2020 16:06

I do and tip as well. Not always, but mostly. Normally £2 or £5. We have a regular who we know my first name and he gets £20 at Christmas and if we know he is going on holiday.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 07/07/2020 16:14

Always. Our Hermes one stands around and chats with us like a long standing friend.

gincakecomps · 07/07/2020 16:16

Always, never had a confused reaction.

SoupDragon · 07/07/2020 16:19

I always do if I see them. It's basic manners I think.

SRS29 · 07/07/2020 16:19

Always...and to the postman if I see him...just good manners IMO

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 07/07/2020 16:22

Yes but on Friday an amazon driver knocked on my door and window and then when I opened the door i got a sarcastic "you're welcome" before I even had a chance to say anything miserable sod.

Bluntness100 · 07/07/2020 16:22

Of course, I don’t know anyone would doesn’t. It’s common politeness.

Same. 😂😂

I leave my postie a bottle of cold water/sports drink too because he's usually about to drop when he reaches my street.

NotYourDawg · 07/07/2020 16:30

I do and during lockdown, when the youngest was chalking on the footpath I chalked a "thank you" next to the porch where they were leaving parcels.

Kordelia · 07/07/2020 16:30

Yes of course, and in these Covid times they often answer with 'No problem, take care.'

Most are local and just as happy to be pleasant as the few foreign delivery drivers we have.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 07/07/2020 16:33

Absolutely. It's a service they're providing and I find the ones we get are lovely - we're very lucky.

stopringingme · 07/07/2020 16:35

Yes, always a thank you and a wave

StrangeAddiction · 07/07/2020 16:37

Always.

When the postie pushes letter through and if I'm near the door at the time I always shout thank you even if I've had no contact with them.

emmathedilemma · 07/07/2020 16:40

Always! Never had them looking particularly confused although at the moment most of them are half way down the road by the time i get to the front door. Surely it's just good manners?

popcornlover · 07/07/2020 16:47

Yes, always!

Tigger001 · 07/07/2020 16:49

Manners don't cost a penny

Bobbiepin · 07/07/2020 16:52

Say thank you to every delivery driver, have a chat with the postman if I'm home and gave the courier who picked up my covid test a cold carton of water (it was a hot day). Only the last one was met with surprise, but he was grateful.

starfishmummy · 07/07/2020 16:52

Always - thank you if they're close enough or a wave if they have legged ot back to their van.

Apart from one company who must have a super speedy sprinter as a driver as I have yet to see them!

Countrysidelife54 · 07/07/2020 16:54

Yes always

Gizlotsmum · 07/07/2020 16:56

I was going to say I always do but actually I didn't once, he didn't knock on the door just randomly stared through the window (our street naming is confusing but still)... Totally freaked me out so I forgot to say thank you just kept muttering that he hadn't knocked on the door despite along up to it... Blush

Iwalkinmyclothing · 07/07/2020 16:58

Of course I do; contrary to my behaviour on MN I am not a mannerless oaf.
