I wish the media would stop printing results of studies on coronovirus carried out by some uni. no-one has ever heard of where they asked 6 random people living in a squat what they thought.

Dowser · 09/07/2020 13:27

I haven’t seen the news for a long time before lockdown
I used To go to quite a few healing groups as a young mum and they always advised against it 35 years ago
I do scan the dm headlines..as it’s free. It’s rarely I click on to a story
I’m interim what happens to ghislaine Maxwell but I know we will never get the truth
I never looked at it at all in hard lockdown. Watched no briefings.
I knew if there was anything I needed to know my daughter would tell me

Orangeblossom78 · 09/07/2020 13:28

I watched that too Spudlet Dh says those ads terrified him as a child (he's a bit older than me) I can see why!

Orangeblossom78 · 09/07/2020 13:29

I heard a good plan is to scan the news for anything that directly might be of use to you and your family. So for example the eating out plan. Or changes to schooling. That kind of thing.

Dowser · 09/07/2020 13:31

All of you lovely people who don’t have fb ...don’t you fancy making an account just to join the Anti Ds on there
We miss you 😁

Littlebelina · 09/07/2020 13:35

Jeremy vine show(I know) just had a proper piece of dementoring about the Eating out scheme. Apparently we have an obesity crisis in this country and we shouldn't be encouraging people to spend money on food. So there you go, be miserable, broke and starve everyone.

DominaShantotto · 09/07/2020 13:35

@Spudlet

DSs speech therapist has just been. She is so pleased with how well DS’s speech has come on since she last saw him (just before lockdown, then we had a couple of zoom sessions then stopped). And DS was so delighted to see her, and cried when she left.

No malarkey about trying to socially distance from a small child, and she didn’t wear a mask (although did offer to - I said no thanks), just sensible measures like having the windows open for ventilation, we all checked our temperatures before she came and she washed her hands as soon as she came in. All her toys and games are also disinfected between clients - in her bathtub, apparently...!

Felt so good to regain another little piece of normality!

We're getting a load of stuff on delivering teletherapy at uni now - apparently it's going to be the new normal in terms of speech for a lot of the time.

There is no fucking way DD2 would have coped with SALT via zoom. No fucking way. Even I as an adult struggle with socially navigating conversations with the delay and lag.

I'll see what emerges whenever our timetable appears - but at least I'll save on train costs I guess.

justasking111 · 09/07/2020 13:40

Wales - I want to eat food someone else has prepped, cooked, served and is stuck with the washing up. Not bothered about vouchers.

Allflightscancelled · 09/07/2020 13:43

@Dowser personally I don't. I had an FB profile once, when I was persuaded by someone else on MN (now deceased Sad) who said it'd be fun. It wasn't. I got really hacked off with getting random updates popping pop and distracting me from work (easy at the best of times) and had to delete it before my head exploded.
Keep chatting here, you know you want to Grin.

In other news, as if I don't hear enough about f***g COVID, I'm now having to write a video script about the fucking thing. can't afford to be too choosy. Bollix!!!!

Spudlet · 09/07/2020 13:46

@DominaShantotto DS did get a bit out of his zoom therapy, but definitely nowhere near as much as his face to face sessions. He wasn’t anywhere near as engaged, he ran off up the garden at one point and I had to pursue him, leaving his therapist staring at an empty room Blush And he kept trying to switch the app to the iPlayer 🙈 I don’t think he’d make anything like the same progress if we were stuck with that longterm. And tbh, I’d be loathe to pay for it.

BarkandCheese · 09/07/2020 13:59

I do have a FB account but I only use it to look at other stuff on there, mostly DDs drama group and the pub round the corner’s takeaway menu. If someone wants to pm me a link I’ll take a little peek at the AD page though.

The 70s were an odd time, a lot of what should have been innocent stuff had an odd, nightmarish quality to it. This blog sums it up perfectly scarfolk.blogspot.com.

I’ve a bit of a thing about old cine film, I love social history and could watch old film of people doing day to day stuff for holiday. Anyway this little gem popped up in my YouTube feed recently. It’s an inexplicable film of butlins from the 70s which makes it look like the start of some kind of distopian story. It really does have to be seen to be believed, I nearly started a thread on here just to share it, but then I remembered mumsnet was going through it’s own distopian nightmare right now and I’d probably be accused of killing grannies for being so frivolous. I really do urge you to watch it though, although I should put a trigger warning on for anyone scared of clowns.

wanderings · 09/07/2020 14:02

@Nihiloxica Now we know how hard it is to get out of lockdown, we must be far more vigilant about resisting future restrictions.
I know I'm late to reply to this, but I do very much support what you say. This is exactly why I am extremely reluctant to wear a muzzle; it's unfortunate that they have to go right on the face, our primary tool of communication. I wouldn't have minded wearing a mask if it wasn't so political. It's also why I was dead against the idea of lockdown in the first place: it's already lasted longer than it was meant to. This whole lockdown, social distancing and climate of fear was all supposed to be TEMPORARY. To me, the highly visible masks are prolonging the sheep-like climate of fear, and in danger of making a lot of these changes permanent. Competitive mask-wearing seems to have replaced the competitive clapping for the NHS: woe betide those who didn't clap or sing a rainbow, now it's woe betide those who don't muzzle up.

And speaking of restrictions, why the deathly silence on which restrictions will be eased next? They haven't even said "Boris will tell us next week what will be in next week's list of what might be eased the next week after that". Give us the fucking exit plan before mandating anything else.

Ibake · 09/07/2020 14:05

I love Scarfolk @BarkandCheese, really evocative of my childhood - ironically I only know about them because of FB. I'll ping you the link and you can dip your toe.

Worldgonecrazy · 09/07/2020 14:13

Can I have the link too please?

justasking111 · 09/07/2020 14:21

Am just messaging friends in Miami, they are not going out at all.

NoisyBrain · 09/07/2020 14:28

I admit I was a regular watcher of the Sadly Deaths show, but only for the stats slides and the hope of an intelligent question from the journos.

The last 4 months has really opened my eyes to the wanky way the media spin stories and made me far more cynical.

The BBC news main headline the other night was actually “Some pubs close as a number of people test positive for coronavirus following the reopening on Saturday” A NUMBER of people?! Well technically yes, but the number was THREE!!

BarkandCheese · 09/07/2020 14:30

DH and I were 🙄 about the BBCs use of "a number". I guess three is a number but so is one million, that headline was total click bait.

BlackberryViolet · 09/07/2020 14:30

This whole lockdown, social distancing and climate of fear was all supposed to be TEMPORARY

This is what is really starting to annoy me. It was supposed to be temporary. I‘ve just worked out that it’s been 17 weeks of compulsory working at home, 17 weeks of having no space or time to myself. The only time I get on my own is gardening. It looks amazing this year. Even if I do say so myselfSmile. When this started dh was told 8 weeks, I was told 12. Now he’s being told Jan at earliest and I have no date or reason to go in.

At least it looks like gyms will be open soon. So dd1 should be happy!

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 09/07/2020 14:38

Well I've just got an e-mail and survey from secondary school about how they can do blended learning in September better.

I hope it just in case planning.

FWIW; the latest ONS study on CV prevalence is out.

Approximately 1/3,900 of us in England & Wales are plague carriers right now.

Blobby10 · 09/07/2020 14:43

*@Ibake * I do that with hand santizer 'stations' in shops too 😳. Saw an amusing thing last weekend in Toddington services where I'd just been washing my hands (whilst humming Happy Birthday 'cos I'm a good girl 😉) and watched a lady walk in fully masked and gloved up. Her expression as she reached the toilet door and obviously couldn't decide whether to keep her gloves on or take them off was hilarious!

Worldgonecrazy · 09/07/2020 14:48

0.03% and we have wrecked everything.

This is why I feel crazy. I agreed with lockdown at the start. We had very little idea what we were dealing with but now we have more information. So why are the media keeping up with the dementoring? When will one of them be brave enough to break ranks?

Teateaandmoretea · 09/07/2020 14:49

@BarkandCheese surely 1 is also a number 🤷🏻‍♀️😂

PickAChew · 09/07/2020 14:51
@NoisyBrain
We had a 70s Volvo estate as well
I remember first husband moving a big fridge freezer in it
We have an avensis tourer. After careful measuring, dh brought this home in it.

Not the dust and random hoodie, mind :o

It's a bugger to park but every time we contemplate a shorter car, dh becomes a little rueful about the lack of boot space. We originally bought it because we could fit a maclaren major buggy plus a ton of shopping in the back.

Teateaandmoretea · 09/07/2020 14:54

We have an avensis tourer. so have we, what an old bus. As you say impossible to park but it’s truly massive.
