A bottle of wine every day

Been doing it for two years now. I don't even get drunk anymore . It's a habit . I work from home so it doesn't affect me driving or anything . No kids at home. Partner works away mostly .
Is it really bad ? Do others drink this much ? Don't really know why I'm posting . I don't even know if I want to stop Confused

It’s not ideal. Effects on your liver/weight/bank balance won’t be great.

I know how easy it is to fall into habit. Maybe try 2 days a week without? Or splitting a bottle over 2 nights?

Is it boredom? Can you do something else? I find if I go for a run/visit friends/go shopping by the time I come back I’m not that bothered?

Pertella · 06/07/2020 19:01

Its a lot of alcohol.

Would you be bothered if you couldn't have any?

Pipandmum · 06/07/2020 19:02

Giving you a low ball unit count of 9 per bottle, that's 63 units a week. The recommended amount is no more than 14. So I'd say you are doing yourself some harm, which may take some time to become apparent, but by then damage is done.
And do not be fooled that it doesn't affect your driving - if you were breathalysed you would be over the limit, and your reaction times and judgement are affected.

biscbek · 06/07/2020 19:02

@Pertella to be honest yes I would.

I used to drink that amount. Only when I stopped did I realise the full extent of how unusual and heavy that amount of drinking was. I stopped 12'years ago mid 40s, because I just got bored with being either mildly drunk or mildly hungover. Never feeling healthy and clean. No longer drinking is absolutely fantastic. I recommend sobriety to you.

biscbek · 06/07/2020 19:07

@HMSSophie did u just stop completely?

Not good in the long term. Have a think about what you want in the future and how you act. I feel like I want about ten at the moment (stressful evening!)

Aquamarine1029 · 06/07/2020 19:13

I fear you may be on a very slippery slope

Jolonglegs · 06/07/2020 19:13

Way to much! I hope you can cut down.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 06/07/2020 19:13

Yes, it's too much. Well over the recommended units. I only drink 2 days a week.

Mrsjayy · 06/07/2020 19:15

Yes 7 bottles of wine a week is a lot, could you have a wine free day or maybe have a bottle over 2 days.

SparklingLime · 06/07/2020 19:17

Reading or listening to Annie Grace’s The Naked Mind might help you clarify whether you want to carry on at this level or rethink. I was on a bottle a day until Dry January this year, I’m AF now, not sure how long for but I’m glad I’ve changed things for now.

Tatapie · 06/07/2020 19:21

Yes it's far too much. You're slowly killing your organs and for what?
Take 2 nights off a week, just do it!
It's not as bad as you fear it will be.
The other weekday nights have 1 or 2 glasses. Have 3 at the weekend, get it down to about 4 bottles a week max then reduce from there.
Unless you're an alcoholic in which case you need proper help.
Good luck, bet you can do it!

Idontlikewednesdays · 06/07/2020 19:29

It sounds like you’re an alcoholic which can never be a good situation to be in. Hope you can get some help.

mistermagpie · 06/07/2020 19:34

It's a lot. I drink most days but just one glass of wine or G&T or spirit and I still worry that I should probably have a couple of days off a week. A bottle of wine a day is a lot.

What if you just said, right, no wine tomorrow. Just for that day. How would that feel? Ok? Or wound it make you feel a bit edgy?

FinallyRelief · 06/07/2020 19:35

Don't know how people do this ? I have one drink - just one and I can't bloody sleep!

Moltenpink · 06/07/2020 19:35

I heard that you are meant to ask yourself: do you ever feel guilty about it? Does a loved one questioning your drinking make you angry? Do you feel the need for a drink in the morning?

If the answer is yes to any, you need to recognise that it’s a problem.

biscbek · 06/07/2020 19:35

@mistermagpie I could do it if I really had to I suppose but I'd be thinking about it constantly

OP posts:
biscbek · 06/07/2020 19:36

@Moltenpink yes to all three Sad

gower4 · 06/07/2020 19:37

To those talking about health effects etc, how bad is one bottle a week but all on one evening? If that's all you have.

Sharonthecat · 06/07/2020 19:37

I used to drink a bottle of wine a day, so I completely understand where you are at. I decided I needed to either cut down or give up, and am now almost one year completely sober. Second best thing I ever did.
There is plenty of support out there if you want to cut down/moderate/stop. Club Soda on Facebook is a good starting point, as is This Naked Mind as previously mentioned.
If you are honest with yourself you probably know a bottle a night is not healthy.

DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou · 06/07/2020 19:38

Loads of people on here drink that much, but you won't hear from them. They are lurking.

That doesn't make it ok, just that you won't see them post.

I'm similar OP, I could easily EASILY drink every night of the week.
I did for a few weeks in lockdown. I'm constantly having to reel it in.

I'm now working 2-3 shifts a week and I refuse to
drink a drop before a long shift, because it would make me a bit of a shit nurse and it's an easy excuse to cut down.

Now I'm trying to persuade myself not to buy a bottle on the way home from a shift!
Watch this space 😂

PotteringAlong · 06/07/2020 19:38

If 7 bottles of wine is 63 units and the recommended level per week is 14, then you’re drinking 5 weeks worth of wine every week. And it’s costing you what? Between £35 and £50 a week in alcohol? That’s £2.5k a year.

If you have that every night, are there ever nights when you have more?

biscbek · 06/07/2020 19:40

@DontBiteTheBoobThatFeedsYou lol thanks for the humour, and the honesty. I've actually applied for a part time job as I feel a lot of the problem is boredom and easy access at home .

OP posts:
biscbek · 06/07/2020 19:41

@PotteringAlong yes when I go out I have double that
