What have I found in out outbuilding?

So previously I had a thread about weird things left in houses; today I went into the upper floor of out outbuilding (couldn't previously as ladder was too unstable and I was pregnant). I found these! I've cleaned them up. We live near a church so I'm wondering if they are from there. No hallmark, think they are pewter.

There was also a rubber mouse!

I don't know, but if I made such a find in my outbuilding, I would drink my gin from these forevermore.

NameChange84 · 06/07/2020 18:50

They look communion related. Maybe ask at the church?

TSSDNCOP · 06/07/2020 18:53

The one on the right looks like the Holy Grail from Indiana Jones. Was there a really old fella and a fountain too Op?

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/07/2020 19:01

@TSSDNCOP yep. Next to the rubber mouse. But I'm posting ao clearly I chose wisely!

Well done OP, ill bet it was touch and go though wasn't it? I do think the mouse was a red herring though.

BellaVida · 06/07/2020 19:11

They look ciboriums which hold the bread for Holy Communion. I think they should a lids though and would normally have a matching chalice too.

TitianaTitsling · 06/07/2020 19:13

Def look like communion vessels (it's been so long can't remember proper name!)

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/07/2020 19:18

@TSSDNCOP there were some suspicious human sized piles of dust, and obviously everyone has a yawning chasm with a screaming woman in it in their outbuilding right?

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/07/2020 19:19

@BellaVida what a great word! I am going to pop over and ask the vicar later and see if she would like to repatriate them. We're relatively low church Anglicans in the village so might well be from there... BUT HOW?!

OP posts:
fallfallfall · 06/07/2020 19:24

i'll differ and say flower arrangement related.

toomanyplants · 06/07/2020 19:28

Sensible me thinks they are church related.
Fantasy me thinks they're some kind of magical chalice, for eternal youth wine drinking. Cheers.

AlCalavicci · 06/07/2020 19:37

Am I the only one that think a they look like a before and after photo done by a company that sells metal cleaning stuff Confused

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/07/2020 19:46

@AlCalavicci just silver polish and 10 mins with a duster!

Jellybeanduck · 06/07/2020 19:54

They look like silver desert bowls

Malin52 · 06/07/2020 20:06

Shit OP! You've found the holy grail! Two of them as well!! Grin

They look like the dessert bowls we had in the 1970s but they were stainless steel.

They don't have the height of a communion cup but if you search baptism cup that seems to match the shape.

OhMsBeliever · 06/07/2020 20:40

Where's a pic of the rubber mouse? Grin

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 06/07/2020 20:41

Could we have a picture of the rubber mouse?

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 06/07/2020 20:42

I'm more interested in the rubber mouse...

mumwon · 06/07/2020 21:08

I think they are silver plate -maybe?

AlCalavicci · 06/07/2020 21:17

@LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE ,
I am impressed with your elbow grease !

bitofasleuth · 06/07/2020 21:19

I think the shiny one you've cleaned is a modern copy of the other, they are not exactly the same shape.

Which might mean that the filthy one is worth more than it looks at first sight. Have either of them got marks on anywhere?

LynnThese4reSEXPEOPLE · 06/07/2020 21:28

@bitofasleuth sadly no hallmarks so I doubt they are silver.
@LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard @WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat I will sally forth tomorrow and photograph the rubber mouse!

I need to do a lot of clearing up in there so goodness knows what else is going to turn up...

A ciborium doesn't always have a lid - described as an "open ciborium". However, it would usually have gold-plating inside.

An interesting find though

Karenista · 06/07/2020 21:41

Communion chalices would be silver. I reckon they’re for baptisms.
