What have I found in out outbuilding?

So previously I had a thread about weird things left in houses; today I went into the upper floor of out outbuilding (couldn't previously as ladder was too unstable and I was pregnant). I found these! I've cleaned them up. We live near a church so I'm wondering if they are from there. No hallmark, think they are pewter.

There was also a rubber mouse!

I also thought of baptisms. Not really sure why. They look awfully large/wide to drink from.

Just because they don't have hallmarks doesn't mean they aren't silver!
The tarnished one look to me exactly like tarnished silver would.

The mouse, the mouse! We want to see the rubber mouse! 🐀🐀🐀🐀

Just to clarify, they were both tarnished before I got at them with my polish!

I’d say ciboriums too (good Catholic girl here 😉) Either that or my gran’s old trifle dishes.
@BellaVida what a great word! I am going to pop over and ask the vicar later and see if she would like to repatriate them. We're relatively low church Anglicans in the village so might well be from there... BUT HOW?!
Theft. Maybe they had a break in twenty years ago or something like that.

If you look more carefully, you'll probably find the lead from the roof and the Ark of the Covenant behind a box of old Christmas decorations.

Oh I wasn’t suggesting that they were the chalices that you drink from. I also thought Ciborium (but didn’t know the word though). I definitely think they are used for the bread at Holy Communion. If that’s the case, in the Catholic Church they have to be lined with gold as only the most precious metal should come into contact with the body of Christ.
Not sure about other denominations though.

@namechange84 so silver or pewter is a big no-no but shrink wrapped plastic is okay?! These things are hilarious!

@Malin52

The exterior can be any material, it’s the interior that has to be gold in the Catholic Church.

That isn’t a Catholic website.

That is literally just a wafer and some wine as it’s not been consecrated by a priest...it’s through consecration that Catholics believe the bread and wine transforms into the real presence of Jesus Christ. Many Christian denominations believe the bread and wine is merely symbolic so the “vessel” would be irrelevant.

Even in the Catholic Church unconsecrated communion hosts arrive shrink wrapped in plastic! It’s during the service the “magic”
happens which is why from that point onwards the bread and wine are placed next to gold metal.
