Home security....what have you all got?

We’ve been lax....but have had ‘someone’ staking us out overnight!

I’m looking at security options, wondering what you all do and what,if any, security features ? Amazon has a lot to choose from!

We have an alarm system we arm each night before bed (downstairs) and whenever we go out. We also have nest cameras looking out from the front and back. How do you know you’re being watched?

LochJessMonster · 05/07/2020 21:50

A big ass dog.

FaceOfASpink · 05/07/2020 21:52

Nothing

Aragog · 05/07/2020 21:53

We have window locks which are used in all downstairs and first floor windows. We have the high security style local on the downstairs doors too.

We also have an alarm fitted to both downstairs doors, garage, downstairs and first floors rooms. We out the alarm whenever we go out and it in downstairs when we go to bed.

We were broken into whilst in bed a few years back. They were after dh's car keys -
he had some daft fast hot hatch type thing at the time.

The think they averted them from coming in further, or heading upstairs, was the alarm. Once it activated they pretty much fled.

MoveOnTheCards · 05/07/2020 21:54

We have a ring doorbell with a camera that captures most of the front area of our property. We also have an alarm, which is set to cover the whole house and all potential entry points when we’re out and the downstairs at night. And we have nest cameras downstairs (positioned to capture anyone in the main rooms/way in and out of the house on the ground floor).

All easy to set up and use and massively reassuring after we were burgled a few years ago.

MoveOnTheCards · 05/07/2020 21:55

Oh an faraway pouches for car keys. There was a spate of car thefts using key booster things around here.

MoveOnTheCards · 05/07/2020 21:55

*faraday

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 05/07/2020 22:01

PAND0RA · 05/07/2020 22:07

Nothing, but we live in a safe place.

Have you phoned the police about the person You’ve seen @LilBlackLab?

dementedma · 05/07/2020 22:07

Nothing.

TattyByeTattyHead · 05/07/2020 22:24

We have eufy cameras - one at the front and one at the back. Amazing

2155User · 05/07/2020 22:26

Ring doorbells front and back of house and security lights.

2155User · 05/07/2020 22:26

How do you know someone is staking you out?

elastamum · 05/07/2020 22:30

Electric gates and a very large dog. He is really quite soppy but if you heard him bark you wouldn't come near.

YorkieTheRabbit · 05/07/2020 22:31

Alarm, security lights and cctv cameras, detached house so one camera on each side. Good area but burglars travel Smile

YorkieTheRabbit · 05/07/2020 22:32

Forgot to say the whole system was fitted by a local security company

Scrowy · 05/07/2020 22:32

Sometimes we remember to lock the back door.

Bit pointless though as the front door doesn't lock and the ground floor windows that still open (most are rusted shut) can all be opened from the outside as easily as from inside.

We haven't got anything worth stealing at the farm or in the house that would be worth more than the fuel it would take them to reach us, other than a few tractors and frankly they would be doing us a favour if they took them.

DramaAlpaca · 05/07/2020 22:34

Gates, decent locks and two dogs that sound the alarm if anyone even walks past the house, let alone comes up the drive. Luckily we are detatched.

Blink cameras from. Amazon. Brilliant kit. 2x AA batteries to run them and no storage costs.

DonaldJTrumpet · 05/07/2020 22:41

An American Akita. 0/10 would not recommend.

jackdaw141 · 05/07/2020 22:47

A very long drive, a big dog with very long ears, an acre of stone chippings, a gun and IBS.

ChockyBicky · 05/07/2020 22:49

Nosy neighbours

LilBlackLab · 05/07/2020 22:52

Thankyou!!! I feel bad I’ve got nothing and put everyone at risk!

So I’m probably being over dramatic .... not seen anyone but the dog has gone crazy ‘scenting’ in the garden the past 2 mornings, both mornings the back gate has been opened, left opened and the stiff bolt on our side opened.
