I thought Dancing in the moonlight by Top Loader was bad.
Along comes the cover version.
My God it's awful.

For your listening pleasureGrin

Callum Scott- Dancing on my own.

He just makes it sound so whiney!

Bittercup · 05/07/2020 15:45

Lulu's cover of The Man Who Sold the World makes me want to perforate my own eardrums.

Chatons · 05/07/2020 16:02

My twatty downstairs neighbour has his telly up really loud. I regularly hear a snippet of a shite balladised version of Rick Astley’s Together Forever (presumably in an advert), sung by some earnest young dweeb. It makes me want to break things.

I’ve heard loads of (what were) great ‘80s songs that have been absolutely slaughtered by women with Lily Allen-type voices. Ghastly modern phenomenon.

I’m a right curmudgeon.

tillytoodles1 · 05/07/2020 16:06

Rolf Harris, Stairway to Heaven.

Ceebeegee · 05/07/2020 17:33

Sound of Silence cover by Disturbed. Whenever I hear it, it's almost like physical pain to my ears.

iklboo · 05/07/2020 17:41

Any breathy pseudo emo cover versions.

RockCrushesLizard · 05/07/2020 17:45

Alexandra Burke doing Hallelujah.
The whole reason the Leonard Cohen and Jeff Buckley versions are so great is that they are quiet, understated and powerful.

So she turns it into a belter with a full gospel choir...

EasilyDelighted · 05/07/2020 17:46

A New England by Kirsty McColl. Toe-curlingly awful.

feelingfragile · 05/07/2020 17:48

@Ceebeegee

I LOVE that version 😂

rslsys · 05/07/2020 17:52

No cover is better than the original - unless it’s a Bob Dylan song!

Patsypie · 05/07/2020 17:57

Duran Duran's whole covers album was shocking and in a fan. 'White Lines' and 'Perfect Day' are particularly shite.

Glittertwins · 05/07/2020 18:21

I like the original and Disturbed's Sound of Silence.
Which female butchered Sweet Child O' Mine? That was appalling.

ShinyRuby · 05/07/2020 18:37

Lily Allen's version of Somewhere Only We Know by Keane. One of my favourite songs & she ruined it with her shite vocals & because she's such a prat.
Even worse because it was on the John Lewis Christmas ad, so many people think it's her own song!
Wrong, wrong, wrong.

DrDavidBanner · 05/07/2020 18:55

Any weedy, breathy, emo John Lewis type covers make me want to stick nails in my ears.

There's a versin of Tears for Fears Mad World that takes all the soul out of it, I don't know who sung it but they suck, and there was a really shitty version of Ain't Nobody for some advert that was just horrific. Neither of those songs need covering they're both perfect just as they are.

TravellingSpoon · 05/07/2020 19:23

Madonna's version of American Pie is one of the worst things I have ever had the misfortune of hearing.

And the video, where she is gyrating around in front of the camera in a grubby vest top is just a bit much.

froomeonthebroom · 05/07/2020 19:28

There's a cover of Manic Monday by the Bangles being played on Radio 2 at the moment. I don't know who sings it because I've switched off after about 10 seconds every time I've heard it!

JaneJeffer · 05/07/2020 19:28

Gary Jules - Mad World. Kill me now.
I'm too scared to listen to a worse version of Toploader.

bobbieflekman · 05/07/2020 19:30

Shirley Bassey's version of Pink's 'Get the party started' proper made me lol

AlexCabot · 05/07/2020 19:34

Dancing in the moonlight was originally recorded by King Harvest in the seventies.

So Toploader did a bad cover which in turn was covered badly. Again!

mrswishywashy1 · 05/07/2020 19:43

Wash your mouth out with soap 😂 that is my most favourite version and I dont even like disturbedGrin
LiveatCityHall · 05/07/2020 20:16

Hurt by johnny cash. The original is all about the pain and suffering of Trent Reznor's drug abuse. So johnny turned it into a tragic love song by changing the lyrics at the end.
Also Under The Bridge by All Saints. They did the self same thing. Makes my blood boil.

Billyjoearmstrong · 05/07/2020 20:18

Any of those god awful covers on commercials sang in a breathy way. Mostly sang by people who sound like they are doing an impression of a five year old.

Billyjoearmstrong · 05/07/2020 20:19

And fucking Toploader were just awful all round.

Obviouspretzel · 05/07/2020 20:28

That Disturbed cover is awful. Never understand why people like it so much. So cheesy and the production is really bad, makes it headachy to listen to.

Obviously there are worse ones. Madonna's American Pie springs to mind. Any X Factor winner. Loads really.

BigBadVoodooHat · 05/07/2020 20:36

This is pretty much word for word what I was going to post. I loathe all those faux-naïf, wispy, acoustic, beige bore-fests Angry
