Lulu's cover of The Man Who Sold the World makes me want to perforate my own eardrums.

To fair, I feel like that about everything she's ever done.

And every smooth jazz rendition of a rock number - see Seven Nation Army and Money, for example.

YES Unagi! Cover wasn't the worst thing ever, but the Zutons original is much much better.

Also agree with pp about All Saints covering RHCP. Now THAT was all kinds of bad.

Anytime you get some "popera" type of classical crosover monstrosity trying to sing Nessun Dorma or O Mio Babbino Caro ona talent show. Stop. It takes years to be able to perform music like that properly! Jackie Evancho had a gorgeous little voice and much potential but singing major arias at the age of 11? no way.

yes!! sorry, only the Pogues could sing that. Just because Ronan is also Irish doesn't mean he can sing it.

A pp has already mentioned it but there is a truly horrendous cover of Manic Monday out at the moment that makes my ears bleed. Sung all soft and breathy and depressed-like, with a really discernable northern accent by someone called, I think, Kate Rusby. It genuinely is the worst cover I've ever heard.

Sadly I agree about Manic Monday (brace yourself, I think there's another one coming out too).

But Kate Rusby is a very talented and very popular folk singer, she's been around for years - she's made a couple of forays into popular music (Ronan Keating - all over again was another), but her strength is definitely the folk side of things.

Roman Keating's cover of Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Stripped all the emotion out of the original, and was on all the time so I'd be tricked into thinking it was the original only to be disappointed!
