3 year old grabbed the iron 😔

Ds 3 has burnt his fingers on the iron. He tried to press the button for the steam and as I went to grab that hand, he wrapped his fingers round the hot plate with the other hand.

We've held it under running water for 20 minutes (not easy), he's had some calpol and he's now holding cold, wet flannels out of the fridge. He's still crying a lot though 😢

Is there anything else I can do? It hasn't started to blister and doesn't look that bad, but you can never tell with burns.

I would get it seen.

mylittleavalon · 05/07/2020 10:50

Yup, get it seen. Cake

Herecomethehotstepper · 05/07/2020 10:50

It would be out of hours at the hospital as the GP'S closed.

You need to get that seen immediately, my DS did similar at that age and needed it treated and dressed. Make sure to keep up with pain relief also, it’s going to be very sore.

IWillNotNameTheTree · 05/07/2020 10:51

Another one saying he needs to be seen.

gamerchick · 05/07/2020 10:51

You need to take him to hospital. My then 3 yr old did exactly the same and was treated very seriously with a transfer to another hospital and follow ups.

Take him now.

Herecomethehotstepper · 05/07/2020 10:52

Ok, I'll call 111 now, thank you.

OP posts:
gamerchick · 05/07/2020 10:53

Why? Take him to a&e.

17CherryTreeLane · 05/07/2020 10:55

Yes he needs to be seen. Put cling film over the burn

Tink1990 · 05/07/2020 10:56

I hope he is OK, you are doing the right thing getting him seen

TW2013 · 05/07/2020 10:56

111 might be best as they can direct you to the best place. Around here the best place for burns is not our usual a&e. If you turn up at the usual a&e they assess and send you to the other one.

PlanDeRaccordement · 05/07/2020 10:58

Yes go to A&E. The worst burns (3rd degree) do not feel as bad as the milder burns (1st degree) because you literally destroy all the nerve endings. So you can’t go by how much pain he is or is not in. It needs to be seen as soon as possible.

Crunchymum · 05/07/2020 10:59

My DD did something similar when she was smaller. Grabbed the ironing board - she was on the bed - and the iron somehow burnt her arm.

Ended up in 2 A&E trips (one when it happened and they asked us to return a few days later to re-dress and assess if she needed the see a plastic surgeon. Thankfully she didn't). We then had to see a nurse at the GP every other day for 10 days for dressing changes.

Both lasting damage, still gives me chills now (it was 4 years ago!!)

whattodo2019 · 05/07/2020 10:59

Wrap in cling film and please take him to A&E

Crunchymum · 05/07/2020 10:59

NO lasting damage.

MojoJojo71 · 05/07/2020 11:01

Don’t waste time with 111, get him to A&E

Herecomethehotstepper · 05/07/2020 11:01

I've called 111 and waiting a call back. It's 3 tiny burns on the middle part of his fingers so I don't think a nd e would be the best place. The pubs opened here last night, so they could be overrun.

I would take him to A&E, my DS burnt his fingers at about the same age, the damage can take a while to come out and he needed seeing at a children's hospital- they said hands, face, feet, genitals always dealt with more seriously during to functionality. Also the oxygen makes the pain worse, cover the burns if you can.

jellybe · 05/07/2020 11:06

Glad to hear you rang 111 they will direct you to the best place to take DC. I did the same at that age and mum took me to the doctors and they treated me with no long lasting effects. Hope he gets seen soon.

Herecomethehotstepper · 05/07/2020 11:16

We're off to minor injuries. Thank you for the advice.

Mehmen · 05/07/2020 11:19

Oh god I hope he’s ok @Herecomethehotstepper

Angelnix · 05/07/2020 11:25

Hand and finger burns should always be seen, glad that you're off to get checked out, hope he's ok

RedOasis · 05/07/2020 11:28

Wrap in cling film and get it seen. It’s the air contact with the skin that causes the pain. Had Incident with baby in walker and cup of coffee.... he will be fine. 💐

otterlielovely · 05/07/2020 11:32

bettsbattenburg · 05/07/2020 11:33
