3 year old grabbed the iron 😔

Ds 3 has burnt his fingers on the iron. He tried to press the button for the steam and as I went to grab that hand, he wrapped his fingers round the hot plate with the other hand.

We've held it under running water for 20 minutes (not easy), he's had some calpol and he's now holding cold, wet flannels out of the fridge. He's still crying a lot though 😢

Is there anything else I can do? It hasn't started to blister and doesn't look that bad, but you can never tell with burns.

I got a text at work last Sunday telling me that my ds (4) had done the exact same thing. After messaging neighbours about it dh was advised to wrap his hand in cling film. It had already been under the tap for several minutes. The day after he had four areas of burn across the top of his palm just under his fingers. The day after they had blistered a little and he had knocked the top off the skin. He wasn't bothered by the much at all and they are almost healed already.

Keep it as cold as you can while waiting to be seen.

Hands are sensitive with many nerve endings.

Getting it cold before medical treatment is good anyway. A friend's child grabbed at a kettle despite supervision and had a large area of scold across the arm and body. Within 10s he was in the sink in cold water, then a cool bath and it was towards an hour before the hospital. Because they prioritised cooling before hospital, there is minimal scarring if any, but it had the potential to have been awful.

How is he doing, OP? Flowers

We are back home! The nurse said he was very lucky, it was a very small area and hopefully won't blister at all. We have to go back on Tuesday or earlier if blisters appear. She hasn't put a dressing on it.

He was screaming the house down until we got in the taxi, then it was like nothing happened 🤦‍♀️ Thank you for all the advice.
