Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

Oh that's great Incognitomum I guess people are overexcited after being separated for so long, but shouldn't keep you up all night.

Unfortunately- unless we never want to go abroad again - we do need to keep the numbers under control. This does seem to be - with a few notable exceptions- worldwide collective madness.

MaudesMum · 05/07/2020 10:01

I also have mixed feelings about pubs opening, but that's mainly around the way it was done - and the fact that the blame for any spikes (if they come) will be bounced back to those who were drinking in them, rather than the Government. Opening on a Saturday was asking for trouble, for a start. But there's also so much hypocrisy around - I bet a high proportion of those tutting on Twitter have booked haircuts already.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/07/2020 10:04

Have the "second wave" predictions finally gone out of fashion after the predictions that Bournemouth was going to be the next second wave and having quite a number of posters on here and beyond pointing out that the first 9 second waves had not occurred.

Attention seems to be shifting to the autumn/ winter which I have long suspected is more plausible (harder to get outside, colds/ coughs, better environment for the virus, less vitamin D) That's why we need to get on and live while the going is good.

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 10:04

Re Scottish visitors, I'm not even 100% sure if the roolz allow you to travel to Scotland from England for a self catering holiday. I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't get a refund if you don't come, but it's deliberately left vague in the hope I think that most people won't bother - especially with the sort of welcome they might see at the border.

Absolute killer for the tourist trade, but I believe there's enough pent up demand from inside Scotland to keep most of it going, although I suspect a lot of high end places in Edinburgh will bite the dust without festival goers to keep them busy over summer.

PickAChew · 05/07/2020 10:04

@incognitomum

Result got our money back and staying here in a pod Smile The manager was devastated said she'd warned them to be respectful of others.
Is that the lot who were playing loud music?
BarkandCheese · 05/07/2020 10:07

We’re going to the garden centre this morning to weigh the dog, they have a pet bit with dog scales and the dog is currently on a diet for being a porky borker, then this afternoon going to the seaside for a late lunch and a walk. I haven’t been to the seaside yet this year so even though it’s going to be windy as hell Im quite excited.

I’ve managed to fill four weeks of the summer holidays so far. One we’re going on holiday, one I’m sending DD to stay with her grandparents, one DD is doing her drama group show which has been postponed since Easter on, and one I’m having my niece to stay who’s a year younger than DD so will hopefully keep each other company. From initially looking like a very dull summer I’m quite pleased that I’ve managed to sort some stuff out for her.

SockYarn · 05/07/2020 10:09

No. They will just claim that the government are fudging the figures and conspiring to cover them all up.

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 10:09

Talking of hypocrisy @Maudesmum , I posted about going to the zoo yesterday. A FB friend ( who I keep on for novelty value) who not so many weeks ago was posting to tell us all to stay the F at home - she works in some capacity in the NHS - was asking about my trip and if there were toilets open ( there were). Oh and the other day she was posting asking about foreign holidays.

Spudlet · 05/07/2020 10:10

Found a use for my mask this morning... wore it while sanding the woodwork 😷

(I have also worn it to go into the GP as required but that’s it so far).

FizzFan · 05/07/2020 10:11

The pubs thing - wtf did they actually expect after keeping the population locked up for 3.5 months? “Drunk people won’t socially distance” - no shit! What’s the next revelation - bears shit in the woods?

It’ll help the police prepare for the riots though, no SD at those either.

rookiemere · 05/07/2020 10:12

One of the zookeepers was very glad for his mask yesterday as he inadvertently stumbled onto a wasps nest when clearing out one of the visitor huts.

FizzFan · 05/07/2020 10:15

Lots of “second wave” dementoring on twitter today. They’ll be devastated if it doesn’t happen.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 10:19

Me too @TrustTheGeneGenie and at this rate I'll be far too fat and unfit for surgery even when it does get going again. I also can't have it done if my ds isn't back in school.

BarkandCheese · 05/07/2020 10:19

Very much this. We’ve done our part, we’ve given up so much of our lives already, we need to get out and have normal lives for the next few months. If a second wave comes in the autumn we deal with it then. It won’t be as bad as the first one, even if it happens I’m positive there won’t ever be a full lockdown again and we know so much more about the virus now. But there’s no point in stressing too much about it now.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 10:19

Does anyone know about the sadly death rate for the current cases?

User8008135 · 05/07/2020 10:20

Phew thanks to everyone who also found the random stranger trying to kiss my babes hand inappropriate.

I did think i wouldn't have liked at all before this mess started, but anxiety does sometimes get the best of me so it's nice to have that reassurance.

Just a caution on locked playparks, some of them around here are locked still as they need to bd checked. Yesterday broken glass was found all over the area of our big one by the workers who were cleaning/mowing/oiling. Even by the slide and playframe. People had used as a drinking spot. So if locked, not taped but actually locked, they may have similar issues if not been maintained. So keep an eye out. It is back in action now though and glass free!

Ibake · 05/07/2020 10:22

Morning all. Sorry so many of you are struggling today. My DH and I have said so many times that we can't imagine what this would have been like with LO's. My lockdown has mostly just been about boredom!

Re the pubs. Remember the media is only interested in a story. My town last night was lovely. Very relaxed. We went in a few pubs. Chatting to the staff and they said they'd been steady away but not horribly busy. They'd not really known what to expect but were all relieved that it wasn't crazy. The vast majority of towns and pubs will have been the same. YY to the poster who said the Venn diagram will be the same for lairy pub goers and Bournemouth beach goers.

DH read a story in the telegraph a couple of days ago and I see a few red tops and DM ran it yesterday to say that they've now found it was porters, security and cleaners that were the super spreaders in the hospitals and not docs and nurses. This does make such sense given that they operate all over the hospital versus being ward based. And of course these roles often worked by BAME and are poorly paid. And I bet they weren't initially given the same ppe as the HCP's. Does start to paint a picture doesn't it? Importantly though it helps us to understand a) what went on and therefore b) what we can do about it come the autumn if we are into 2nd wave territory. If we know how it operates we can control it. That and managing to not royally fuck over our care homes this time and I am hugely optimistic that we are then learning to live with covid and so no need to further lockdown. Take heart, I truly believe your children will all be back at school. Thanks

MagdaS · 05/07/2020 10:22

There was a very dementory thread yesterday about a second wave in autumn / winter. I agree this is where the risk is more likely but there were apocalyptic predictions of a ‘hard’ lockdown between November and February. Posters practically salivating over the possibility that we might be locked up at Christmas.

MaxNormal · 05/07/2020 10:24

I'd be worried about herpes if random strangers tried to make free with their lips.

About the pubs, clearly the media are showing the worst pictures, all the rest that presumably show people sitting quietly at a safe distance won't get many clicks/sell many copies.
A lot of it appeared to be outdoors, and we didnt' see a spike from that after Bournemouth, so fingers crossed.
Plus I'm not remotely surprised that people are currently a bit over-excited, it'll ease off I would imagine.

The usual suspects are howling to the rooftops about it on my fb today of course.

Bollss · 05/07/2020 10:25

Both France and Ireland have said they won't lock down again. Id be surprised if we did. It was never a long term solution.

Then we'd have the issue of getting out of it again.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 10:25

@User8008135 hi. Another one who thinks you don't sound dementory. I think on this thread there's quite a range of views but I think we'd all agree that we wouldn't actively do things to upset others. Accidentally upsetting a dementor is different, though now I'm wondering if they're just terrified people

Allflightscancelled · 05/07/2020 10:29

@TrustTheGeneGenie I know you are a good 30 years younger than me but I always agree with every word you say 🤣

Only news I've heard so far today was on Five Live. It seemed to consist of:

Met police spokesman: we were prepared for mayhem but people have mostly been well behaved though we are a bit worried they may not all have been socially distant

WM ambulance man: we were prepared for mayhem but it's been really quiet. Possibly some people were a bit close.

BBC in scary adults behaving themselves shocker!! Hold the front page!!!

And thanks for the new thread, whoever it was.

Off outside to clip a tree back. Oh the excitement

Dowser · 05/07/2020 10:31

@wanderings
Think I’ve found my soul mate
Love a little quiet rebellion me

I was once kept in at playtime by a trac I was pretty scared of.
It was winter. She ignored me. So I just sat there in the warm . Can’t remember if I had work to do or not. My crime had been whispering something in line and the nasty old bat had singled me out.

Then it dawned on her I was quite comfortable sat inside on a bitter cold day so she chased me back outside actually saying those words to me.. I don’t see why you should be inside in the warm while everyone is outside, so get yourself back out there.
Yep I was shit on her shoe alright... and so the rebellion was born

Hello all.

I agree this is where the risk is more likely but there were apocalyptic predictions of a ‘hard’ lockdown between November and February.

There was a guy on newsnight this last week looking at computer modeling and he were saying first predictions took no account that no everyone as susceptible but recent models with new information saying there will be a second peak in January but much smaller peak around 6,000 extra deaths and as age is highest risk factor in the older age groups.

We went into town yesterday - not all the shops open all hand restrictions on numbers, wales, and hand sanitizer complusary at doors. Not so much fun shopping.

Did try spending some money on the kids, went down like a lead ballon and then on walk home DH - who's idea it mainly was - decided everything was my fault and I got upset and then I was one in the wrong. We've not had many bust ups in lockdown but still upsetting.

I got disney + last night and watched hamilton and then first espidode of mandalorian so felt better but apparently still in everyone bad books this morning as DH does all the great Dad projects with the kids. Still I have disney + to console me and DH is cooking Sunday lunch.
