Slight tweak to the suggestion, but here it is.

@MagdaS

There was a very dementory thread yesterday about a second wave in autumn / winter. I agree this is where the risk is more likely but there were apocalyptic predictions of a ‘hard’ lockdown between November and February. Posters practically salivating over the possibility that we might be locked up at Christmas.
I bet there would also be strong overlap in a venn diagram between lusting after winter lockdown and the annoying winter lovers who do the hot choc, blanket, and snuggling thing, who love 5oC drizzle as much as Coronavirus. The type that start whiging when it gets over 18oC and ruin our 3 weeks of summer by wishing winter back. 'Snot natural Grin

Love a little quiet rebellion me

I was once kept in at playtime by a trac I was pretty scared of.
It was winter. She ignored me. So I just sat there in the warm . Can’t remember if I had work to do or not. My crime had been whispering something in line and the nasty old bat had singled me out.

Then it dawned on her I was quite comfortable sat inside on a bitter cold day so she chased me back outside actually saying those words to me.. I don’t see why you should be inside in the warm while everyone is outside, so get yourself back out there.
Yep I was shit on her shoe alright... and so the rebellion was born[/quote]
My rebellious nature was awakened by a dinner lady in primary school (about 100 years ago now). We were served rice pudding for afters and I bloody hate rice pudding, so was told to "sit there until you eat some. You're not leaving this table until you do!". I think it was around 2.30 when the teacher finally came to get me, still sat there with a stone cold uneaten rice pudding in front of me. That dinner lady hated me for the rest of my time there.

@Bellesavage

Struggling today. Nothing of worth seems to have opened near us. DD was counting down days to go to pizza express as it offers her favourite vegan pizza (she has allergies) but it's not opened. No play parks, been told to stay away from the local beach, library said it won't be opening for another month.

I took DD to Tesco to buy popcorn and pick and mix so we could go home and watch frozen 2. They've replaced all the pick and mix with wrapped only sweets (most of which have dairy in so she can't have them) and then we got to the till and the checkout man shouted at DD for not standing far enough behind a yellow line on the floor. We tried to shuffle behind the line and then he proceeded to pass the goods along the till just short of where we could reach it from the line. It just made me feel so upset. Shouting at my 5 year old ffs.

Then we got home and DD opener her packet of love hears and said "look mummy, a coronavirus one" and she held it up and it said "miss you" on it. Sad

Classic Vegan Giardiniera Spinach, red onion, artichokes, garlic roasted mushrooms, vegan mozzarella alternative & our famous passata

You can buy this pizza in the shops, don't know if this is the one your dd likes?

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 05/07/2020 10:45

We've given up with Tesco on-line the 80-85 item limit was just an extra pain in the arse we didn't need. We've shopped with them for years - before that Asda till they kept canceling the order a months worth of shopping at last minute.

I think Morrisons are going to do well out of us - I order short delievery with them and amazon that came in during lockdown, we like their pre-done boxes and they have slots for normal on-line deliveries.

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 10:49

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath I got a Morrison's box and was inordinately excited just to get shopping with no thought from me. I was quite excited opening it 😂😂

BlackberryViolet · 05/07/2020 10:53

@SockYarn

Have the "second wave" predictions finally gone out of fashion

No. They will just claim that the government are fudging the figures and conspiring to cover them all up.

I’m already seeing this on the local pages (or at least the ones which haven’t banned me). They always have their sisters, neighbours dog walker who has a brother whose best mate lives near the cousin of an ITU nurse who says that bodies are piling up. And because of the economy they government are covering it up and not giving us the real figures or some such bullocks.

Off to the beach today, no idea which one. Screw the weather

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 05/07/2020 10:54

Mascotte - we're hoping they continue long term for similar reasons.

We've tried a few and been pleased so far. If we can think of somewhere to go for a pinic that isn't closed off - Roman amphitheater we've pinic at before was padlocked - we ight try their pinic one.

My y5 teacher had me sussed... I didn't like writing much and she got fed up and snapped "Bogroll, if you don't finish that piece of work by breaktime, I'll make you do PE with the 4th years!"
Cue cries of, "that's not fair! Can I do PE with the 4th years?" "No! Bogroll hates PE and it's the worst punishment I can think of for her!"
Reader, I finished my writing. Grin

That was the summer I snapped in a game of rounders when my ex-best friend ritually knocked me out at first post and was really goady. I saw red, flung the rounders bat at the playground a few times and got dragged by the end of my arm to the headmasters office, got the shouting at of my life and threatened with suspension. The best bit was that this was Friday afternoon. I spent the rest of the day in disgrace and then diddled off on holiday to... Bournemouth (all thè way from Birmingham Grin ) for the next week. No one believed me for years that it was just co-incidence that I'd gone on holiday and that I hadn'tactually been suspended for a week Grin

I was the type that sussed that it was worth being a librarian and being a helpful swot in order to avoid freezing my aching knee caps off on a windswept playground. Wink

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 05/07/2020 10:56

picnic - knew that looked wrong but couldn't think why - must need mroe coffee.

I have children like this.
At 5, DS1 was asked to tidy his Lego.
Eventually, he was told to tidy his Lego or, sit on the utility room.
He sat in the itility room.
The washer was on.
He sat in the utility room watching the washing machine go round for over two hours...
He got a reprieve to go to a party.
He was given a choice on returning from the party, tidy Lego or go to the utility room.
He went back to the utility room for another 5 minutes and then finally gave in.

DS2 has just had 3 tech/ tv free days because he refused to earn it by doing his hand writing.

My children have principles and stamina. Grin

HesterShaw1 · 05/07/2020 11:04

Some teachers were just so dumb!

Our spectacularly stupid and unimaginative Y4 teacher saw reading as a punishment. I loved reading. One long boring afternoon, my desk mate and I ostentatiously had a sword fight with our rulers, hoping he'd spot us. He did, and ordered us to put the boring shit we were doing away and "get our reading books out", so we did. Mission accomplished.

Idiot!

SockYarn · 05/07/2020 11:04

he annoying winter lovers who do the hot choc, blanket, and snuggling thing

I hate those people. I get really depressed with the lack of daylight in winter. It's so hard when it doesn't get light until 9am and it's dark again by 3pm. It's not about the cold. It's about the natural light. I don't want to snuggle anywhere thank you, and I hate hot chocolate. The snuggling brigade don't get it. Agree that there's a large crossover with the people who have embraced lockdown and make nauseating facebook posts about the famalam and how much they enjoyed "this precious time with their wonderful children".

Dowser · 05/07/2020 11:06

@mascotte
Although we are only about 80 miles from the Scottish border we tend to go south for holidays.
This is looking highly unlikely as Wales is shut and the friends we stay with in Dorset have been shielding and we don’t want to take our nasty germs with us so we would look to Scotland if we wanted a break but to be honest ( and I love Scotland , my grandad was born in fife and great grandad in Glasgow) I just feel that there’s nothing tempting me up there right now

I think I’d rather rot in our caravan in N Yorks
For the time being

I feel quite sad about that

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 11:09

@Dowser it is sad.

And I don't even know if I'll be allowed out on holiday in a fortnight.

HesterShaw1 · 05/07/2020 11:09

I remember one April a few years ago, a poster breathlessly starting a thread entitled "Is anyone else really struggling in this heat?" It was all of 15 degrees, and she was rending her own hair at the thought of all the unbearable 18 degree days to come, and wishing for cosy crisp autumn days full of hot choc and fires.

Hint: autumns and winters in the UK are rarely "crisp". They are brown, grey, muddy and windy. For fucking months!

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 11:10

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath oh, I'm so glad you mentioned the Morrison's boxes! There are loads now..just trying to choose.

Drivingdownthe101 · 05/07/2020 11:11

Haha I actually like autumn. But only at the end of a warm, light summer. I like the changing seasons, but am always ready for the next one! I can’t stand the thought of going into autumn without having experienced a nice long summer.

BakewellTarts · 05/07/2020 11:17

Morning all, Off to a safari park today packed lunch ready.

Most excitement in our village was someone letting off fireworks, Caused some distress to the dementors on the local FB group but was soon squashed.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 05/07/2020 11:21

I thought it was lack of light in winter causing me problems -but this last winter did Vitamin D and zinc and magnesium and it made a huge difference to me.

I hate snow and ice in winter - I'm more and more worried I'll go over - always had poor balance - the wet wales weather while slightly depressing and really bad for washing is actually better for me.

Definitely, and last year was a slog. Autumn came when the schools broke up in July and it was either pissing it down or scorching, neither of which are great conditions for getting out and having fun. It was about 13oC and pissing down from the schools going back in September until it finally got colder and pissing down in December. There were widespread floods in our region by bonfire night. I've never known so many parkruns be cancelled for floods/ storms. It's normally only a couple per winter for ice. I was on a low ebb before lockdown just from months of heavy cloud and trudging through mud and surface water everywhere. I'm normally a get outdoor person and have the gear, but I don't want to need to fully waterproof up to just walk the kids 5 minutes to school through the stream semi-permanently across the pavement.

I'd happily cut November and January out of the year then to leave enough winter to appeeciate the spring.

I get that people like different things. It's that the hot-choc-snuggle types get the chance to do it for most of the year and then are so quick to piss on the weather that makes the rest of us feel alive for a few months/weeks/ days depending on how crap the weather is.

Life would be a lot easier to be a winter lover, there's so much of it!

torydeathdrug · 05/07/2020 11:28

@Mascotte it’s a lot lower than it was www.cebm.net/covid-19/covid-19-declining-admissions-to-intensive-care-units/

Dd had a lovely time at work last night, all very civilised. She’s tired today. We’re off to see MIL (in the garden!) for the first time since December. Need it to not rain.

Good discussion about relative numbers & ‘easing lockdown’ on the numbers thread atm. People finally noticing how Spain/France/Italy figures really can’t be compared to the UK. The dementors’ belief that UK figures (which are actually held to be world class - the ONS is incredible) are being massaged while ‘Europe’ are pure as the driven snow just proves what idiots they are!

MagdaS · 05/07/2020 11:30

I’m not a big fan of winter. I feel the cold and hate smug snuggling. We had the heating on this week. I also need natural light. I don’t want to WFH through the winter. I’ve got panicky before all this when we had snow and ice and there was a chance I couldn’t get to work.

FluffyKittensinabasket · 05/07/2020 11:31

Strange that the hysterical posts about only shopping once a month for essentials has stopped!

NothingIsWrong · 05/07/2020 11:33

I drank 5 pints of lager last night, had the traditional row with DH and then woke up to a hangover. So fucking normal it was wonderful.
