Shit On Toast and other favourite meals

A friend of mine’s go-to meal when she’s exhausted or just can’t be bothered is Shit On Toast, which can be any kind of other foodstuff (beans, tinned ravioli, spaghetti hoops etc.) placed on top of toast.

Another friend swears by Eggs Is Eggs, which comprises... eggs.

In our house, similar meals in the rotation include:

Stuff On A Tray (which involves placing the contents of the fridge on a tray and putting it in the middle of the table with a fistful of cutlery)

Vegan Slop (self-explanatory)

Noodles In A Bowl (fancy)

...any of which could be garnished with a clump of cress, a crescent of crisps, and/or a hot egg.

What are your similar rubbish but well-beloved standbys?

Potato waffles with cheese slices and tinned spaghetti on top, tastes so good.

blossomberry · 04/07/2020 18:48

Kaxiyor · 04/07/2020 18:49

Shock

Beans on toast is okay for a quick lunch or even dinner. Not sure about all the other stuff on toast.

Jacket potato with cheese and beans or cheese and onion is good for a quick dinner.

Pasta with pasta sauce.

Maggi noodles (curry or masala flavour)

I've even had a pot noodle if I fancy it

"Vegan slop" is not self-explanatory (not to me anyway)

BunnytheBee · 04/07/2020 18:54

Cream cheese and crackers with ham, olives and other such bits

zebrarobot · 04/07/2020 18:58

Ours is called a freezer dinner. Any beige freezer food plopped in the oven for 20 minutes. Easy.

Heidihoo · 04/07/2020 19:00

Dog-meat pasta: essentially, tinned minced beef and onions mixed with tomato purée stirred through hot pasta.

Had it a lot as a child, DH calls it this due to the smell. Me and DB don't care we love it, as DH and SIL look on, aghast.

Elouera · 04/07/2020 19:03

I too have no idea what vegan slop is? Mashed up leftover veg???

My lazy meal/snack would be a pot noodle with frozen veg added in or mac'n'cheese you make up from a packet. I usually make use of all leftovers in the fridge though, so to resort to a pot noddle is very, very rare.

Raera · 04/07/2020 19:06

Scrambled eggs on toast or fried egg sandwich.
Fish finger sandwich
Always have frozen Greggs pasties from Iceland for similar emergencies

BGirlBouillabaisse · 04/07/2020 19:08

Nice Alan Partridge reference OP Grin I love a crescent of crisps and a hot egg with my salad

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/07/2020 19:09

Pasta and gloop. Made with whatever pasta we have in the house and a tub of pasta sauce/tinned tomatoes. Poncey pasta and gloop has herbs and meat (leftovers).

TooMinty · 04/07/2020 19:09

Freezer tapas (assortment of beige items). Freezer roulette (something more substantial but unlabelled - is it bolognese or chilli? etc). "Bits" - random stuff from fridge and cupboards arranged on a plate, probably served with crisps.

sobersides · 04/07/2020 19:10

orange dinner = anything bread crumbed from freezer; mini chicken kievs, fish fingers, scampi, chicken or turkey burgers. Always with oven chips, baked beans, bread and butter and a cup of tea. For a touch of exotic...pinch of curry powder in the beans. Voila!

Sailor2009 · 04/07/2020 19:12

Pizza toast. Toast, tomato purée and grated cheese chucked under the grill.

mynameiscalypso · 04/07/2020 19:14

So funny @Sailor2009 - I was just about to say pizza toast! It was a recipe in one of the weaning books I bought for DS but it just hits the spot.

gavisconismyfriend · 04/07/2020 19:24

Some combo of chopped up apple, soft fruits, carrot, cucumber served alongside cubes of cheese and a big dollop of runny, crunchy peanut butter for dipping. Works for breakfast, lunch or tea - or all three on occasion!

MotherWol · 04/07/2020 20:17

We have Beige Dinner, Picky Tea and On Toast as well; my other favourite is Delicious Hash, basically bubble and squeak with whatever combinations of mashed veg and protein you can find in the fridge. Ideally with a fried/poached on top, which is requested by singing the chorus of Single Ladies (if you like it then you should’ve put an egg on it).

Bookaholic73 · 04/07/2020 20:19

Beans and mushrooms on toast.
Cheesy pasta
Pesto pasta

I feel I have too many of these meals.

DrWAnker · 04/07/2020 20:21

Freezer shit. Random assortment of whatever ends need used up.

'Tapas' in the very loosest sense. Olives/bread/salad/cured meat and whatever pickley or other side dishes are available.

Also bits n bobs..usually a mixture of tapas and freezer shit Grin.

Bunnyhop1502 · 04/07/2020 20:26

We have “smorgasbord” when I need to go shopping. Basically just uses up the last little bits of everything! Usually chips, onions rings, olives etc followed by a bit of nearly stale cake if you’re lucky.

TW2013 · 04/07/2020 20:30

DIY pizza - wraps, everyone bungs what they want on the top. Minimal effort for me!

MyBingaling · 04/07/2020 20:30

‘Freezer surprise‘ - whatever beige shite is knocking about in the freezer. We have it every few months when I’m trying to clear out the freezer. My kids love it Grin.

‘Pasta surprise’. Whatever crap I need to use up months fridge / cupboard, with pasta. Often in a bake. Kids tend to groan at this one Grin.

tiredanddangerous · 04/07/2020 20:31

Pasta and grated cheese. So basic and yet so good.

InMySpareTime · 04/07/2020 20:34

Sausages and thing
("Thing" is whatever veg or carbs I can find and be bothered to cook in the time it takes to cook sausages)
Garden stuff - whatever is ready to pick out of the garden, fried up with bacon and cheese.
Meat food - mince, tomato purée, whatever's left in the veg tray, fried upland wedged into pita bread.
