Perfect house v perfect location

Which would you pick?
For the same price was can get
-a beautiful, recently refurbed house of around 2500 Square feet. But the location isn't near anything really. I'd have to drive everywhere. It's also on a busy road though slightly set back and only a couple minutes walk from a rougher area
Or

  • a lovely 1800 Square foot house (but makes good use of the space). Perfectly lovely for the time being although you'd probably do it up and lots of options to extend in the future. But in your dream road a few minutes walk from your family (if you're close to your family) and closer to the station and parks etc

Second one no question. I can do it up to my taste, 1800 is pretty sizable, location counts massively in it's favour.

Porridgeoat · 03/07/2020 23:10

Second house would win. You’ll be able to add value and it’s location is spot on.

Fifthtimelucky · 03/07/2020 23:10

I agree, especially if there are options for extending at a later date.

Porridgeoat · 03/07/2020 23:11

Also having less stuff would make a house feel spacious regardless of size

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/07/2020 23:12

Location wins every time.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 03/07/2020 23:13

Location no contest, especially from what you've described.

DramaAlpaca · 03/07/2020 23:13

The second one. 1800 sq ft is a decent sized house.

My0My · 03/07/2020 23:14

Second house. Put your own stamp on it. However nicely somewhere has been done by existing owners, doing what you want is better. Assuming house 2 isn’t wildly more money, location always sells!

BackforGood · 03/07/2020 23:14

Location, location, location in that order.

You can make changes to the house, but not the location (obvs. without moving again).

JanewaysBun · 03/07/2020 23:15

2nd house

NancyNoNickers · 03/07/2020 23:16

Second one, no contest

Babesinthewud · 03/07/2020 23:16

I second the second one option too! Grin

As you say, you can always extend it etc

LightenUpSummer · 03/07/2020 23:17

Location definitely. I’ve never regretted buying my small and quite frankly ugly house, in a great location

Onekidnoclue · 03/07/2020 23:18

Second house.

NavyBerry · 03/07/2020 23:19

Second for sure! Near family

Nquartz · 03/07/2020 23:19

Second, Agree with everyone else!

thistimelastweek · 03/07/2020 23:19

I know I would persuade myself that the first was the right choice.
And I know I would be sorry.

MrsEricBana · 03/07/2020 23:20

2nd one. You can change the house but not the location. Don't even consider the other one!

Nighttimefreedom · 03/07/2020 23:20

Location always.

rwalker · 03/07/2020 23:20

I've had both of these dream house in poor location huge period features
shit small house fantastic location

please go for location

Happywith2 · 03/07/2020 23:22

Second option. We moved to the perfect home in a location like you said and 3 years later have now moved to our perfect location. Just was not happy there and hated always having to drive ever where.

Northernsoullover · 03/07/2020 23:24

Location definitely. I rent and its decent enough but oh how I love the location! I pass some of the prestigious houses in my city regularly and they are stunning but you are really trapped in the burbs in those. From here I can access shops, restaurants and countryside plus a station. All on foot

Sushiroller · 03/07/2020 23:26

Second one. Hands down.

Mmmmycorona · 03/07/2020 23:29

Second one. You can’t beat location and for the personal reason of I’d never buy a done up house. I like to add my own mark and value to a property.

justjuggling · 04/07/2020 00:10

Definitely the 2nd one.
